Better yet, where did you get that sending unit? Was it new?
-
The 18 and 23.5 gallon tanks are the same height. But what about the 16 gallon tanks?
-
I would definately eye em up, but if I remove the old sending unit off the tank it's not going back in. It seems some jacka$$ decided it was too hard to replace the o-ring for the hole to the gas tank and decided to patch the fuel leak with something that looks like roofing tar  so my tank, sending unit and o-ring are all as Yoda would say "one with the force" which wouldn't be a problem except my dumba$$ decided to fill the tank for the first time ever and the little patchjob seems to have sprung a leak. :headpop: So my solution: New: tank, sending unit, O-ring and pump. Most of which TAZ can get me except the sending unit.

Thanks Wildman. anybody else know if it would have ill effect to use the 16 gallon sender because I can't seem to find the correct sender anywhere and Taz said it's discontinued from the dealer and Nappa can't get it.

Can I use the sending unit for a 16 gallon tank even though I have a 23.5 gallon tank?

Ok listen. I have this same problem, but mine does it when it's cold and gets better when it's hot. Now I've changed every stinkin sensor except my EGR valve and that's next. While it hasn't cured my problem completely it does get better with every new part I put on. I'm still thinking there is a leak at my exhaust manifold that causes it to run poorly until the gasket warms up and expands forming a tight seal around the holes. We'll see because I only get a small amount of time every week to work on the truck. Now for yours. I just spoke with a mechanic in Mexico that said he was having a similar problem with a 1998 Ford Explorer. He had the same symtoms as you with the addition that his check engine light would come on. His problem was that he had two holes in either his Catilitic converter or muffler( I couldn't completely understand the dialect he was using) and he just fixed it by welding the holes shut. His problem went away. Not saying that this will fix yours but it might be worth looking at considering you said the exhaust system is pretty much shot.

Yeah, well I've been looking for the last 13 hours and can not for the life of me find any of these parts in my FSM.
-
What year is it? Ask for the service records. See what's been changed. At that mileage $1300 might sound like a great deal but you'll spend another $1500 on parts that you need to replace because of age and if you don't do it yourself another $3000 to get someone to do it for you.

K Pete. I have an 88 LWB 4.0 auto. Do you know what size tank I have and a good place to get one?

Sold Dr.T Please PM your info. -
The parts guy at my dealership laughed at me when I told him I needed parts for my Comanche the first time. The second dealership I called kept giving me an attitude when I kept asking for parts. So I went back to first dealership and once again asked for parts nicely. The first parts guy laughed again and told me to "trade my POS in for a Hundai ." So I found this forum and took care of the parts guy. Anyway, if you gotta deal with the dealer get ahold of BLHTAZ on this forum. Nice guy, works for a dealer, and got me a part that nobody around my area could get.

Start checking every wire. Something probably melted together and it's only gonna get worse the more you drive it. -
