Curious tire size question.
alleydog replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My son inlaw to be runs 35s on a d35 in his yj. That thing has taken quite a beating off road, but when the axle broke, he was just driving down the street to my house! -
I just replaced the damper on my 89 last sunday, with a used one. It was rubbing on the timing cover. It made kind of a swishing sound. maybe its just your belt. They will quit squeaking with just a little spray of almost anything, like brake cleaner or carb spray. Then as it dries off they start squeaking again.I have heard the best belt to use is a Goodyear gatorback.

renix sputters while driving
alleydog replied to alleydog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I never thought about the intake bolts, This morning I caught it in the act, it was missing under a power brake load, sure seams like an ignition miss. I think I'll put the cap and wires from my Comanche on and if that isnt enough, I'll keep on going! -
renix sputters while driving
alleydog replied to alleydog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok, I'll check into both of those tomorrow. It's a sneaky problem, kinda comes and goes. I'll let you know how it's coming along. -
You bet! I get mine at the local Napa store

I have replaced a lot of bearings in those AC clutches. Its kindof tricky to get the bearing out and in without bending the pulley. Also look at the snout on the front of the compressor where the bearing slides on, and make sure it isn't worn .Looks like you already have the bearing out of the pulley , so if the pulley is not bent, youre half way there!

I hope it's ok to ask for cherokee help here, as I also have a comanche too. I have an 89 xj with 4.0 renix. It starts up fine and runs good under hard accel, but if I just cruise along with light throttle, it pops and bangs out the exhaust. It seems as if I have to be moving in drive for it to act up. It won't do it while power braking setting still. I have a new fuel filter and plugs and wires on it already, nothing changed. My 89 comanche runs great, I'm thinking about changing a bunch of parts between the 2,at least I won't be buying a lot of stuff I don't need. Thanks,Mark

Funny how everyone you meet waves at you when you're driving a squad car!

Project CRD MJ is born:

I'm not picking on you here, but the weld might flow together nicer if you made sure all the paint was buffed off the weld area before welding.I know it's a pain welding the edge of that thin stuff, I've had the best luck just plug welding inside the holes. I really like what youre doing here, and looking forward to seeing it on the road. -
Are you talking about the rubber mount?
-
I think I've seen Volkswagens in a color similar to that, I think it's cool!
-
I'm curious to see if the longer mount will help reduce wheel hop, which is common with SOA.

I work at a repair shop, where we do a lot of brake jobs. We use a lot of cheaper rotors, because people want to get by without spending too much. So 2 years later their pads are still good, but the rotors are just crusty rusty. I don't know if its all the rotors fault or the crap they spray on the roads to melt the ice. Even the better quality rotors are made in china, so it seems silly to pay double for the same junk.

Many Ford and Chrysler cars used the same 4.5 inch bolt pattern. How about wheels from a Diplomat cop car from the early 80's?

First thing you have to do is figure out what percent your speedo is off, then there is a ratio number on the little gear box that tells you how much it changes the speed.
-
I say CAN their butts, there's plenty of sober people that could use a job.

I think the lower shock mount is hitting the top of the lower control arm and keeping it from tipping back far enough for the uca to fit.I know some people have trimmed a little bit off the bottom of the shock mount to gain a little flex. Maybe you can put a floorjack under the axle to put some weight on the springs. just be careful not to tip the truck off the stands. I also like jim's idea about compressing the spring, but maybe you don't have a spring compressor available.

I live in Iowa, and it's just as bad as Minnesnowta. The stuff they use now is a liquid, I think it's calcium chloride, not a good companion to all the cheap china brake rotors that everybody uses. You get used to it.

Frozen Rear Brake Line Connection to Hose
alleydog replied to RDAN1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Be careful with the heat, as jim said, cause when you heat it the rubber part will blow right out of there when it explodes. You should look the steel line over real good, because if the rubber hose is shot, the steel line is most likely rusty too. -
no outage here in northeast iowa, but we dodged the whole storm.I'v had a generator for almost 25 years, and only used it for 1 hour because of outage, but I used it alot for other stuff, like camping and racing ang getting parts off at the junkyard. If youre gonna use it near people, get a Honda, mine has a briggs on it and it's loud as he.. well you know!

Project "Black Betty"
alleydog replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
I think I can handle the wiring, I've put TBI setups in a couple of CJs and my 41 ford pickup, but the GM wiring is a lot simpler that this Dodge is. I have access to Mitchell wiring diagrams through where I work. I think the one thing that might save me is the fact that this is still obd1. Thanks for the advice and encouragement, I'll let you know how its going when I start into it.
