  1. My favorite drink is Mogen David & tomato Juice - It's called a Bloody Murray.
  2. 57 channels & nothin' on . . . Used to watch one of the very very 1st realities when I was a kid - "WRESTLING AT THE CHASE" KPLR TV, Channel 11, St. Louis, MO - Had it all; Drama, Suspense, Heroes, Villains, Sex(Fabulous Moola) - - My favorite was/still is KILLER KOWALSKI
  3. vmjeff87's advice on making a paste with powdered laundry detergent is dead on - Also works great under the hood, wheels or anywhere - brush or scrub on-let set & hose off - been doing it since the 60's - - - - - - Wood Treatment - - - - IIRC & what worked for me - CWF is/was better than Thompsons, BUT for the last 20-22 years I've been using a 50/50 mix of spar/Marine varnish & penetrol - Penetrols been around for a long time & is a snake oil that pretty much does what the label claims - At least it does here in the mid west - Came up with this mixture after talking to a chemist friend whose company made industrial coatings - I also use penetrol straight on equipment that stays outside a lot, battery terminals & lots of other things - good stuff. :smart:
  4. FWIW - - I've been using Straight Talk $45 unlimited for my daughter's android - did the access point switch thing 2 years back & no problems - ST has changed policy & now sells sims for most any gsm phone - good deal since their phone selection has always been poor - I also buy the service cards from their web site, kind of - ST always has an online promotion or two - I buy $45 cards with whatever free phone goes with it & then sell or trade the freebie - There is no Wal Mart in my zip so the sales tax is much lower & the 3 day Fed X S&H is free - but it is sent signature req so someone needs be home - It's not much, the 4-500 I make selling the free phones over a years time pays for a months dorm fee - TTL she's now in her senior year - - - For a little over 3 years I've done the same thing with a ST Nokia tethered to a PC for my homes internet service - I live in the sticks - Usage is kept below 5 gig per most opinions/guidance given at howardforums.com & so far same good results - reasonable rual Inet service for about $25/month after I sell that free phone & no contract - My home phone service is verizon homeservice - a wireless black box plugged into my home - 19.95plus tax for unlim LongD, call wait, callr ID & some other features - It sits in my garage & runs all 9 of my home phones - it has a 5 REN if I remenber right - (the ring eqiv number is the device power rating-used to be approx .75 per unit needed for the green acres type phones & ob much lower now) - Also have a GE brand bluetooth gateway with a 3 REN rating connected in the hopes my wife would agree to ditching our home service - It grabs 1 or 2 cell phones & auto trans calls to the house phones when you walk in the door-works great - Her cell is an employer perk & I haven't figured a way to chisel there - YET! When I can't take the tethered nokia with me I rely on an AT&T go phone - 10 cents min & no monthly min or contract - just stays in my MJ - - - Hope this helps someone - Anyone know of better deals please pass them along -
  5. Fell off the edge again - No, no vacuum - argon or krypton - no vac - Not in the US - :shake: With apologies to PP&M: Puff the magic window lived on the second floor. His view was fairly limited to the sky plus the house next door. Little Jacky Turbo loved that rascal Puff; He'd dream of solar properties and other ilogical stuff. Ohhhh, Puff the magic window...
  6. What vacuum? There is no vacuum in these types of windows.
  7. WOW - previously unmentioned information - Had no idea it had been established that the neighbors window was a multi paned unit; much less coated - _ - _ - Now then, JIC for your development work - The coating must be on the inside pane of the unit for it to have a shot at doing what you describe - Low E windows have the coating on the OUTSIDE pane - Reason is infrared transmission - With hardly any UV being absorbed by the outer pane what little IR is generated must cross a space usually filled with argon gas, or just plain old air in less expensive units to warm the inside of whatever - Just the most basic of engineering - reverse this orientation and the IR radiates straight into the dwelling-obviously not the way to make an insulating window - There WERE some double coated jobs years ago - PPG and LOF both made units of all glass construction - these had glass welded sides, argon filled & were costly - Color/appearance probs associated with the vacuum coating process necessary for the raw glass mandated two coated surfaces, which went away with the licensing of PPGs straight from the furnace(tank) technology - Andersen and Pella were the main customers - Andersen fell under the influence of Cardinal Glass(ASAHI JAPAN) & went to a cheaper aluminum frame with some sort of organic junk sealer & the rest had to follow suit (NOTHING SELLS LIKE CHEAP) - These are, of course, not suited for your use - Use the reflection of something held very close to the glass surface to easily determine coating side - fingernails work great-focus on the cuticle - Sharp image=coated side blurred=uncoated - Fast & dirty & reliable. Your ideas of the doubling and redoubling of the refraction coefficient with no outside/additional amplification are intriguing - Should be of great interest to the perpetual motion machine researchers, Flat Earth Society and scientific community in general . . . Good Luck. . . . . fwd//SteveHawking/MichioKaku/Moe/Larry Curly
  8. Yes I know what an F lens is - Do you know what makes it work? - The refractive index of ANY window pane, ground & polished, vertical draw or float process is pretty much ZIP - Dusted off an old E-book & started to run the math on RI for 3mm single strength using PPG Ind standard D for thickness(My confidentiality agreement with them is expired, just in case a lawyer is lurking) & then pretty much realized this is nuts - IT FLAT(get it?) DOESN'T WORK. Still like to know what the siding is covering - Plywood - Structured - Particle - Foam? Especially foam - formaldehyde vapor levels of improperly cured styrofoam sheeting can be high - But after 3 years, 3 months even, Hmmm... Regardless - A vinyl siding tool is 3-4 bucks - A square of replacement viny & 1/2 hour's time max & on to another.... I saw a peanut stand - heard a rubber band - seen a needle that winked it's eye...... :D
  9. This type of nonesense is good fodder for the myth busters show - - Refracted, concerning the electromagnetic energy commonly refered to as light, simply means sent off in a different direction. - - As far as the neighboring widow - - It is certainly reflecting some light as do most objects, black holes being possibly the ultimate light absorbing sponge - Anyway, IF the window glass has the type of coating known as "Low E" it should do a decent job of reflecting both UV and INFRARED light waves - and I suppose that IF the window's glass part is multi-paned with sealed edges AND the ambient barometric pressure allows the outward facing pane of the unit to become concave then certainly there will be a focal point(multiple FPs is more likely) somewhere & not a terribly efficient one either - - - UV and INFRARED are the only light waves, in this case, capable of heat production in any meaningful amount - INFRARED LIGHT IS HEAT - You can feel it, as is, when it bounces off your skin - The neighbors window is simply too far away to give off damaging IR unless THE HOUSE IS on fire & even then it'd have to be a real hot dog cooker - ULTRAVIOLET is another story - an object must absorb UV in order to increase in temperature - So yeah, the siding absorbs UV, but too many IFs & ANDs & just plain BS to blame the neighbors window after 3 years - UNLESS the Maya calendar is right & the Sun has moved into a position so that....... HEY - It's five o'clock somewhere
  10. These usually get me going in the right direction TIRE SIZE - AXLE RATIO - http://www.onlineconversion.com/automotive.htm WHEEL BOLT PATERN http://www.tirepackage.com/aux_incl/bolt_pattern.html SHOCKS http://www.monroe.com/assets/downloads/ ... hSheet.pdf PIGTAILS - WIRE CONNECTORS http://www.repairconnector.com/ SPARK PLUGS & HEAT RANGE CHART http://www.championsparkplugs.com/sparkplug411.asp OIL FILTERS - easy to use as a cross - gives specs http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/index.asp USED PARTS http://www.car-part.com/
  11. Hello - Haven't been around for a while & never have been able to offer much - Don't know much about my MJ but I do know a little about glass, including it's reflective properties - Everything offered about your siding from the mfg rep concerning your neighbors house/window is pure BS - Without getting into it in depth that window is P Poor as far as reflectors go - Not all of the suns available energy striking the glass is being reflected and what is has not/will not be amplified - Anyway, has anyone looked at the backside of the siding? What is the siding covering - Plywood - particle/composite - foam? Is the affected area spreading? :???:
  12. I once approached 2 friends/coworkers as this conversation started - Bill was asking Jim if Johns beagles constant barking bothered him - No, said Jim, guess I'm far enough down the hill that I've never really noticed - Bill said; Well ya know I'm right next door now & they're driving me nuts, especially on mid-nights(we worked a swing shift) Being new to the neighborhood & all I really don't want to start trouble but I can't sleep with all that noise - what d'ya think? Jim's reply was "I'd poison 'em" - - - Awww No, Jim, as much as I love dogs I could never poison those 2 beagles! - - - Without hesitation & dead serious Jim came back with; "I wasn't talkin' about the dogs" - - - momentary silence & then Jim grinned. :D
  13. I was 43 or 44 & had my 1st pager in a pants pocket - set on vibrate because of construction noise in my new shop - when it went off I was about 12 ft up a ladder & just starting to open a 480V 3phase panel - instantly knew I was going to ground/already dead - Took awhile & some of Dr. Budweisers magic nerve elixir to regain composure - - - Pulse rates kicked up just recalling that scare, might have to head for the medicine box. :shake:
  14. Thanks - :wrench:
  15. NICE! - Here's some more - fast & dirty - http://www.onlineconversion.com/automotive.htm
  16. Here's MONROE'S excellent shock spec pdf: http://www.onlineconversion.com/automotive.htm :wrench:
  17. Nice - Here's links to Monroe's and Gabriel's spec info: http://www.monroe.com/assets/downloads/ ... hSheet.pdf http://gabriel.com/products/docs/Gabriel_Mounting_Codes_Oct2012.pdf :wrench:
  18. Nice looking - Add a drip bag & IV to complete
  19. It's a good site - Lots of info, but not the Wiki type - It crosses a PN to a Wix reccomendation for a Wix filter & not every possible swap - When it spits out a Wix equivalent there usually is an application list at the page top - If industrial, recreational, farm & such are included there may be fuel, hydraulic, trans, coolers & others-both spin on, canister & whatever shown - - It's not a swap reference - It's an aid for selling WIX products - They ask for help in maintaining their data base & the instructions for corrections/additions are there if a PN doesn't cross or someone finds a (Gasp) mistake. What I like most is the spec list for their spin on filters-usually including the gasket id/od, burst pressure, flow rate, bypass pressure & micron size - The thread type & external dimensions are almost always there - World of info for WIX stuff & it'll put ideas in a guys head - I don't skimp on filters-I do improvise - Running a 3.7x7 inch 3/4-16 on a 22HP Kohler-It just dwarfs the tiny OE unit - Mounted a remote on my '84 Rampage 2.2 & use a big 12 micron hydraulic on it - I'd like to do the same on my 4.0 MJ but can't decide on a location - Anyway, if you want the skinny on all wix stuff - it's there & let 'em know if you disagree with something-They're nice people. :wrench:
  20. http://www.wixfilters.com/ - Enter part number & manufacturer ID is usually given - Click on Wix part number for specs on their filters plus applications - Good site to bookmark
  21. The overflow / coolant recovery bottle is a very good idea -Super easy way to keep an eye on what's going on - as the coolant gets hot it expands - if the pressure caused by this expansion exceeds the pressure caps rating then coolant will be forced past the cap & into the bottle - The reverse happens when the engine cools - the decreasing volume coolant now creats a vacuum & the bottle returns liquid to the system - when the cooling system is opened for a new hose-new thermostat-af change or whatever some air will be introduced & is usually purged 1st before any liquid may be forced out & the resulting vacuum will again draw from the bottle; then additional coolant needs to be added to the recovery bottle & monitored until the system stabilizes - 2 or 3 normal operating temp to cold engine cycles usually - Then life is good & on automatic until maybe one day you notice the bottle's level a little lower & when refilled it keeps on getting lower - Then you start the hunt for just where the coolant is disappearing to.
  22. Superman - Thanks - I'm using a 18 lb stant-one with the P release lever - besides the easier anti freeze change thing I also wanted to limit the pressure in the closed systems bottle since stress cracks were the only problems I've ever had - was afraid the p bottle could/would be sucked dry if a 13 lb cap was used - RM
  23. Superman - What PSI radiator cap are you using? I did the same thing to my MJ awhile back - 1.25 OD on both ends of the inline adapter from Summit & put the overflow bottle from an '88 Toyota 4x4 pickup by the MJs air filter housing - also put in a Prestone flushing tee - Never had any problems with the closed system, just wanted to make it easier to change the antifreeze - Thanks, RM
  24. Next time you run up against a like problem just have a friend/relative in the US buy for you & then send FedX, UPS or USPS to your location.
  25. I'm new here too, but....the 5th digit of the VIN will tell you if it left the factory as a 4wd or 2wd - I've no info on '92s but a search should pull the letter code for you or call a Jeep dealer. RM
