One thing missing from our setup is shade over the cooking area so I got an ARB 8’ x 8’ awning. To mount it I attached 1 1/2” zinc plated perforated tubing to both sides of the bed front (spaced out with some flat bar to clear the bed lip) that 1 1/4” perforated tubing will slide into. Slots had to be cut in the backs of the 1 1/4” tubing to clear the bolt heads holding the 1 1/2” tubing, nutserts were added for threaded knobs to keep things in place, height adjustment and storage. At the top of the 1 1/4” tubing I attached Ironman 4x4 awing quick connects to make installing/ removing of the awning easy. The plan is to carry the awning on the FJ Cruiser’s roof rack and assemble at the campsite. The propane box had to be moved forward about 1 1/4” so the opened lid could clear the 1 1/2” tubing which then required a hitch extension for the FJ Cruiser’s rear door to fully open without hitting the box. I used my 20 ton press with a 2” ballbearing to pinch the extender and hitch together at the hitch pin hole so it wouldn’t rattle.
