Manual transmission choices
Eagle_SX4 replied to brucecooner's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I recently found out that when the previous owner swapped the Peugeot for an AX15 that he didn't change the cross member. There is still enough room to use the original cross member it will just push the back of the transmission up about 1 inch. If you decide not to change the cross member just double check your output shaft and pinion angles to make sure they are acceptable. -
Will this gauge cluster work
Eagle_SX4 replied to Smokeyyank's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That is an electric high output cluster easiest way to tell from photos is the trip reset button is out side of the speedometer face. The mechanical renix era ones have the trip reset button inside the speedometer face. This one has custom face plates. -
91+ Speed Sensor function?
Eagle_SX4 replied to Eagle_SX4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks @ghetdjc320 I won't drive it much until I get the new sensor put on. -
91+ Speed Sensor function?
Eagle_SX4 replied to Eagle_SX4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The same speed sensor was also used on the Dodge Dakotas of the early 90's. I got a shipping notification and my new sensor is on its way. Car drives fine. So far driven about 40 miles up to the local ski resort enjoying my early weekend. -
91+ Speed Sensor function?
Eagle_SX4 replied to Eagle_SX4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the info @schardein. It looks like the speed sensor is used to adjust the automatic idle speed (AIS) motor upon deceleration. It is also used as the input for cruise control, which I don't have. I also remembered I had a PDF of the 91 service manual and here are some screenshots detailing the speed sensor. It looks like it will run and drive fine (with a manual transmission) an automatic might have some deceleration problems with idle speed. Otherwise not affect much. -
91+ Speed Sensor function?
Eagle_SX4 replied to Eagle_SX4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks @gogmorgo my speedometer still works since it is cable driven and I just plugged it back into the transfer case after removing the speed sensor. @cruiser54 there are lots of photos on my build page(link in my signature) but here are a few I have wrapped the wire harness since I took this photo and put about 2,500 miles on the fuel injection. -
So I broke the inline speed sensor I installed on my Eagle when I swapped to fuel injection on the '92 4.0 that's in it. I have a new one on order but would like to continue to drive it until the new one comes in the mail. I am curious what the data from the speed sensor is used for. How is that going to affect driveability? I assume the fuel mixture won't change based on load/speed. Would it be more likely to run rich or lean?

I put one on my truck about 2 years ago and it is still working. Quality seemed okay but there was some cleanup work and modifications that needed to be done to run it on my renix engine. When I did it I cut the egr bung out of the old header and drilled a hole in the new one then welded it in place. Then extended the egr tube. I also replaced the down pipe with a later one to relocate the oxygen sensor.

I used a piece of heater hose to replace the rubber. Not as squishy as the original piece but better than metal on metal.

Thanks @WranglerMangler I still haven't mounted the center seat. Trying to figure out a way to lower it and keep the cup holders. -
AX-15 Fill Plug Replacement?
Eagle_SX4 replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think it is a metric thread. I always have a hard time finding large metric threads locally. I had to order a crown one when I replaced mine. -
Thanks for the tips. I am definitely going to wait till summer to try again with the carpet.
-
Don't put carpet in your car when it is below freezing. Totally messed it up and now I need to get another carpet kit. After I bolted the seats in the carpet was 4 inches above the transmission tunnel. I ended up splitting the carpet front to back to get it to sit down on the tunnel. I also cut the passenger side door jam to much and now the carpet doesn't go under the trim panel.

LCG Setup: 35’s on 3” of lift
Eagle_SX4 replied to ghetdjc320's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's probably going to take a lot of cutting. I remember seeing this truck about 5 years ago. Later I learned that it is on 44's. Haven't seen it in a few years though. -
Please help! Control arm choices/options
Eagle_SX4 replied to Airsuperiority's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Core 4x4 WJ arms are a direct bolt in. I have them on my truck. They include spacers to fit the wider mounts of the WJ but you don't need them if you put them on a Comanche. And they have the bend in them for tire clearance. -
How hard do you crank it?
Eagle_SX4 replied to WranglerMangler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would take off the oil pan. It is possible that whoever rebuilt the engine never checked clearances on the bearings and it has been locked up since the rebuild and that's the reason it has sat for 5 years. The oil pan is super easy to drop on these trucks just support the frame and let the suspension drop out of the way. -
Now on to the floors. Started yesterday by taking out the carpet and cutting out the rust holes. I have the bigger hole fully welded back in and have the smaller hole patch made and will weld it in shortly.

I really like those seats but they are out of my price range. I found a set of reupholstered ones for sale. $2,650 for the set. https://srrxseat.com/product/lsc-blue-monza/

The first car I bought was a rusted out '84 Jaguar XJ6. It had some fiber optics lighting up the fan speed and temp dials in the dash.

Swapping Bulbs for LEDs.
Eagle_SX4 replied to Spinnakerblue89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Are you talking about the front turn signals or the rear bulbs because the all rear "red" bulbs are both brake and turn signals. The rear bulbs should be an 1157 or similar dual filament bulb. If it is an 1156 (single filament) it shouldn't fit, but if you got it in there it might touch both contacts in the base and cause some weird things to happen. Like the turns signals on the front lighting up when you hit the brakes. -
It is an auxiliary countershaft assembly for a manual transmission (can't figure out the application). Here is a link to one for sale they are expensive. https://www.finditparts.com/products/10374705/midwest-truck-and-auto-parts-wak3220

1981 Coleman Maverick fold out camper.
Eagle_SX4 replied to coheed's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Awesome camper!! My dad has a '67 Aristocrat Lo-Liner that gets out 2-3 times a year. He hooked it up to his eagle to move it around the yard and had to snap a pic.
