albeit the PN's are different i still figured they may work. oh well, it was intersting. It's better then learning about the venturi effect in school

very much so there are kits to turbo a 4 banger turboing a 4.0 won't be much different

If your DDing it, I wouldn't think about stroking it. If your looking for gas mileage I might consider doing a 4 cyl swap before I would do a 4.0. Your going to run into some 4.0 swapping problems. Toss up a qucik search as it has been covered before, unfortunately I can't find the links at the moment. 1100 Isn't a bad price in my opinion for a longblock. But you could also find a whole complete cherokee for that price and steal all the components you need. IF you can find one with decent mileage that may have a poor body that would be my best recommendation.

soooo here goes. I have learned quite a bit about trying to swap pieces of axles instead of whole assemblies this week. What a PITA. what i have is a 2wd 86 manche 4 cyl. Had a blown engine and needed a front bearing. Got the bearing prices, they want 300 bucks because it is a whole assembly not just pack of bearings due to the unusual design of hub part of the axle. I said no thanks as I can get a whole axle for under 50 and just toss it in, since this truck is 2wd it would be non functional anyway. So i manage to be given an 89 D30 for the price of on the house that I was going to swap in instead of the 2wd axle. My buddy was going to give me a hand (or vise versa) but he was in exams and I need to get the truck out of the garage withing the next two weeks. So we thought hmmm...maybe we can take off the inner axle shafts and just use the spindle part? Well after pulling everythign apart and hammering out the u joints turns out the 4wd hun and spindle is different, but I am get to find out why from quick inspection. So I said okay, no problem. I can swap over most brake components an it will be problem free right? well I took some measurements of the parts that the brake pads sit on. Under first measurements I find out that it should work. So i pull everything apart, get it swapped over to the dummy D30 and find out again the brakes won't work, but they just barely don't fit. SO in the end I have learned not to try and swip swap parts between axles. It is a big waste of time (about 5 hours so far). In the end, the original solution will be the correct one. and I now have to replace some u joints

your a man of patience, I will give you that lol I look forward to seeing it finished. What ar eyou ideas for the frame?

just to pull u thread off topic one more time, there is a kit you can find to turbo a 2.5, so i wouldn't worry about building a custom turbo system like i was doing I love that colour. can't wait to see it finished.

I had 3.55's in mine with my AW4 and my 31's Mine had tons of power. wasn't too bad on fuel either towards the end when I babied it. Edit: 4.0L as well.

that is a really "odd" colour paint. I like it, but I have never seen anything like that before. should look pretty good I would think. When you said you were going to turbo charge you stroker, what is your compression ratio and how many pounds of boost are you planning on?

i think the consensus is that the TF999 is going to stay in until the deisel goes in. Once the deisel swap goes in, the NV4500 will be right behind it. but for now it makes sense just to keep the truck stock so it can be puton the road.

Speaking of, your old engine will be out tomorrow, and the new in by Friday. I have only been working on it in 45 minutes each day (usually in the mornign when i'm in less pain) I managed to get the tranny lines off without and kinks or breaking them, your rad also appears to be in excellent shape. I have also found a set of 3.5 inch coils for sale for 150 bucks brand new. get those and some spacers, I will steel some steal (do i have those backwards?) That RAM has no use for and we can build some new control arms when ur out of exams

Its been a while since I really started posting regularily on this site due to some pretty serious illnesses that I have been having. Ever since I started really coming back and reading things again, seems to be so many new faces. Feels like I barely know anyone off the site anymore, as well as I've lost touch with some of the people I would have considered myself pretty good manche buds with. Weird. Love seeing that the site has flourished so much since I have been away. It nice to see so many people with the same passion.

So turns out this 86 is a little odd when it came to the front dummy D30, and changing the bearings has to be done by a professional shop because its all goofy (or I could just use the bress but I imagin i would destroy the bearings the first time) So in goes a D30 that has been graciously donated by a buddy of mine, it has all new seals and bearings and steering stabilizer and brakes, which is nice because the 86 has brand new rotors pads and the calipers were in excellent shape. so now I have two extra sets of calipers and an extra set of rotors and pads for a rainy day. But since the 4wd front axle is going in, might as well make it functional right? otherwise its just silly in my opinion. The auto trans in this Manche now is kind of poop (the TF999 i think) the 3 spd auto is not highway friendly but serves the 4 banger well. I have an extra TF727 kicking around with tcase. I can flip the tcase but will the trans bolt onto a 4 banger? the 4 spd should be a bit more user friendly. it was off of a 360, so I thought the GM housing should be the same no?

It's an 86 4 cyl, automatic, long box MJ. Dana 35 rear, bench seat interior. Engine is fried. I have three sitting here so it should be an easy fix. Needs tires brakes, and thats about it. My friend picked it up for 200 bucks, which I think is a steller deal seeing as how the body was professionally redone about 3 years ago. Green exterior, beige interior. Actually a really nice truck. Needs little to get going. Plans for this little truck are extremely extensive: 4BT Cummins 3.9L diesel NV4500 5 spd trans. Dana 44 front Ford 9 inch rear Tcase unsure of. Frame reinforced where needed. Heavy duty spring pack with SOA rear. A mild lift in the front Prolly 31 or 32's all the way around But that is all to come, for now its a matter of making it a reliable DD Should be fun Here's some pics (the PO loved the chrome) Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found

I am using it now on my 72 charger with MIG welding as well. Sometimes the mig just won't do the job, and the braze works awesome. It's actually a really strong weld IMO, but I wouldn't do any major structural work with it.
-
i am hoping to just unbolt the engine and tranny from the MJ in one nit, pull it out, then slide the new driveline from the YJ in, as one unit. The tranny mount my local JY will have, as well as pedal assy's and master cylinder. So hopefullyit will only be a weekend or two worth of work.
-
so my buddy is putting a 4 bager and AX5 into his 86 comanche that has the auto trans. aside from the actual install of the tranny and engine, what else will be different? will the trans cross member work? drive shaft? pedal assy (can I use to pedals from a yj?) resevoir? od should I just keep the auto trans and worry aboutthe swap when the 4bt and NV4500 go in?

MJCanadian, It's only from 87 and down from now on...unless they change the rules AGAIN. your 90 will always require an etest according to current legislation.
