  1. i kinda want to break out my web pistol and bust a cap? What do you guys think?/ I like your rock slider design. I think its neat. Not what i would use personally, but I tend to drive carelessly...
  2. Wow I feel like a tool lol I completely misread his description. My mistake.
  3. when you bob and dovtail, are you going to move your rear shackles forward to be able to use the XJ leafs?
  4. it's cleaned itself out quite a bit now. I changes everything on it, and still can't get it running just right At about 50 MPH it runs beautifully, but still idles absolutally terrible. I found an intake leak, it's been fixed and helped quite a bit. the computer has been changed, helped some but not too much. I still think that the vaccuum's may be the culprit, but to the best of my knomwledge, they are correct.
  5. That Tj engine will get better mileage because it should be distributorless. 600 is a heck of a deal. But as said before, your engine has the common 4.0 problems, they are more annoying than anything. The swaps have been done many times before, and are well worth it in my opinion. as far as engine swaps go, the hardest part will be swapping over all the electronics. But in the end, you will have a nicer MJ in my opinion.
  6. I found an intake leak, which helped a bit. Its idles really really well now. I had it capped off before, but the cap must have fell off somehow. I still haven't changed the computer over. My back has been giving me troubles today hopefully tomorrow I will get it all patched up, and get the new tires on it.
  7. computer will be swapped today, then virtually everything from the 87 will have been used (minus the wiring harness itself) Hopefully that will cure the last problem. Now i still have to refix the exhaust as the engine backfired and the muffler blew up like a granade....my ears are still ringing from when it happened
  8. so you mean the TPS sensor might be crappy? I just swapped over t he TBI unit from the 87, nothing chaged with it, smoke wise but the idle was nicer (the unit was cleaned to begin with) I also changed over ICM, that didnt help either. The only part I have left from the 87 to change over is the brain itself, which i thought would be a big job based on where it came off of the YJ, but its a lot nicer on this comanche, underneath the steering wheel. I can also change over the TPS sensor from the 87 ( i used the top half of the TBI unit from the 97 and the 86 base)
  9. I used the 87: block head exhaust man intake man water pump most sensors I used the 85 tbi unit, oxy sensor, starter, transmission, cps, distributor any idea how to check the injector in the 86? do you think the computer might be the problem as well JeepcoMJ?
  10. injectors?? its a TBI unit?? whats an ICM? Ignition control module? where is that located? Or is that the same thing as what the coil is attached to?
  11. So i put an 87 YJ 4 cyl into an 86 comanche. When the engine was in the YJ, it ran beautifully, had no problems at all. I have put it into the comanche, it is now missing a bit and I can't figure out why. I used the TBI unit off of the comanche as well as the vaccuum lines to make sure everyhting was the same. The engine has a new oxygen sensor, new cap and rotor, sprak plugs and spark plug wires. The gas was old, I added octane booster to try to see if that works at all. But I am still missing, and it is still burning a rediculous amount of gas. The idle isn't the best, but it is better. What else am I missing that could be causing this? Should I maybe look at using the computer from the 87 in the 86?? would that affect it??
  12. I had already changed it out. I had an old exhaust manifold that still had a good (actually it looked almost brand new) one still attached, so I got luck there. When we were prying on the motor mounts to get the engine to drop in, we must have been bumped against the pipe, and it snapped. It was unfortunate, but there is not much one can do about it.
  13. i put on some other aprk plugs and wires i had, seemed to clean up the misfiring in one cylinger, really lowered my idle speed Now it is still spitting a bit, but not nearly as bad. still has the crap gas in it with nothing added to it yet. Allin all, this little project should be buttoned up tomorrow. I just need to get one sway bar link and I think that should do it for the safety. It was a struggle to get this thing going but at least it's all done. The 91 Eliminator is next. I got some axle shafts witht he 297x u joints on them to put in the front axle and get rid of the vac disconnect. I had no idea they were still in the 91's....
  14. I was getting ready to head into town and pick some up, as there is over 3/4 tank of crap gas in it. I am just hoping that this engine isnt gaarbage as well.
  15. So my little 4 banger seems to be spitting a bit up at around 4000 RPM i think. Not sure what is causing it. It idles very very well, runs smooth, there is power, but it sputters a bit at 4 grand. I changed the spark plugs, the others were kind of ugly I am also running gas that is about 2 years old. I am amazed it is even running at all. The engine has been swapped and only ran longest about 3 minutes Do I just need to let the computer read a little bit???
  16. nope. This is a steel pipe that goes from under my TBI unit into the exhaust manifold. It is very difficult to see, and I don't have my camera with me. I also have that cloth pipe broken on mine as well. Not sure what I'm going to do abotu it just yet.
  17. Breaking that little pipe that goest from the intake manifold into the exhaust manifold on a 4 banger. Not sure what years have them, mine was an 87 engine. The little pipe is used to help warm up then engine a bit faster I think, but I am not too sure. When you break it, it is a nasty exhaust leak. in order to remove you must pull off the power steering pump, and its a big pain. Also, i had to retap the holes, which was the worst part because its very hard to get the tap in there. All in all it was a 2 hour process, with a lot of swearing involved. But it did clean up my idle a bit, and it fixed my exhaust leak. Now I just need to get the stabilizer bars hooked back into the front axle and it should be good to go.
  18. I ran the turbine rims with 31's and I only had rubbing at full lock in reverse, I had none in forward motion.
  19. what does SEMPER FI mean?
  20. because he loves his MJ, and wants the extra room. Makes perfect sense to me. I know how the bad back stuff goes as well. This mod would really help if your pain was anything like mine. Not sure what yours is caused by, but i know it's hell.
  21. I am pretty sure it is. Those were the ones that were pointed out to me when I was searching. If I ever get around to it, I will be bending my own using the little tube bender I have.
  22. here are some of the ones that I liked when I was looking into it. http://www.tomken.com/detail.php?id=248
  23. there is also no rear brakes (due to a leak i am yet to find) so some brake torquing will be in order once I get the front axle back togethor lol I will post a vieo if I do it
  24. yeah I meant belt. I am pretty sure the most prominant noise is the power steering pump and the non existant exhaust. But even with the straight pipe, the motor still isn't very load. Not like my mopar 383 was with just the manifolds on it. once my buddy gets here with the parts, I should be able to finish up the exhaust, fill up the power steering pump and then start checkin my sensors and one of the vaccuum lines. It still idle's super super high, but I havent ran it long enough to see if it will kick down or not, or let it get warm. That one pipe is still broken, so that may not be helping the situation either. We shall see, really there is only a days worht of work left.
  25. what is the difference between when it is locked and unlocked in 4wd mode. I still don't understand and i have asked the question before.
