Anyone here put a 4BT in a manche?
sinnaevd replied to sinnaevd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
now that you mention it, i do remember that fellow posting it up on here...maybe someone else remembers as well? its been a WHILE sincei've seen it, at least a year.. -
What did it entail exactly? something tells me that If i am the first one to do it...it might be a bit of a hairy situation how much shorter is the front end of an 86 compared to an 87?

looks like a small little girl to me.... thats freaky

he is correct colton, my father in law is putting an intire ford driveline in his YJ, and he could not get around the etest. it was easier for him to buy another 87 YJ and use that for the swap instead. If you need an MJ to do it to, I will have an 86 MJ going for sale soon. That will let you do whatever modification you need to do withour worrying about etest

yeah hopw for the manifold. mine was ticking a bit as well when I had it, i think it was the manifold, but i never could figure it out. the 4.0 certainly has its corks. the great news is you can beat the hell out of it til it blows if ya like. they are not an expensive engine to replace. there was one here in ontario that finally blew up after the fellow ohad 700,000 km's on the origional engine. other then tune ups and censors here and there, it was all origional

I need a new gas tank for a 90 2wd MJ. Can I use a cherokee gas tank?? or do i need a comanche specific gas tank? will one from an 86 work? (86 is 4 banger, 90 is 6 cyl)

Was: Stroker 4.6L swap, Now: 4.0L swap... apparently...

hey chris is it still possible that they maybe used an aftermarket crank seeing as how that was the assumption that was left, instead of using the "junkyard build" approach? I know companies offer stroker kits, so maybe there is a different crank that is usable that has 8CW, just like the regular 4.0L??? Anyone have any idea about the companies that build kits? -

the pass port is only needed to go into the states, not the other way around so you should be safe there as you are an american citizen ( i think) -
i think the engine swap would be a lot easier and cheaper to do that way. i'm not looking to benefit from the swap, just to get the engine going. the engin is from a YJ as well, so i think the wiring issues would be even worse. Any idea how the wiring would work just for curiosity sake? I was mistaken, the jeep is a 94, so as for this stand alone unit, any idea where i can get info on it? any websites that can be read up on? or do you have any knowledge of the subject? you seem to have a fairly good handle on it

i would prefer to run the TBI system on the engine so I don't have to put as much effort into the truck as the goal is only to get it running well to beat around in. I don't really understand why everything from an 86 wouldn't swap over, but i need to confirm before i start buying countless jeeps to try and get everything going properly. i would anticipate no major difference between the engines, so do you know if it would work or not eagle? (just taking everything off of the 86 and setting it up on the 94?)

will the electronics and fuel delivery system swap over onto the new 4cyl, using components from the old? the old engine's bottom end is toast
-
the gentleman told be it was AW4, might be the A904 though. will the YJ electronis swap into the dash or this an entirely different monster? if I have to pull the dash apart it will really suck....
-
will a 4cyl out of a 92 go into a an 86? what's the difference between the two engines? one has an AX5 the other is an AW4, what mating up issues will i run into? one is out of a 92 YJ going into an 86 Commanche

i was under the impression that it would be marked on the balancing weight on the crank somewhere near the front or back??? -

that is true. I saw chris drive it a few times and it really had some get up and go. i honestly don't think he would intentionally lie, unless he was lied to and did it by accident. the whole thing seems screwy to me. i kinda wish i would have kept my mouth shut about the whole deal.... but in the mean time i guess theres no sense in getting worked up about it just yet??? Pete if you need anything just let me know and i will do my best to help you out -
