diy alignment instructions please
JOMJ87 replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
throw up a stick on both sides at exact center of the tire on level ground. Messure the rear width and then the front. you should be around a 1/4" in on the front. Others have Diff messurements but this has been what i use and it has worked great. Cole -
Not stock unless you completely remove them and the inners. Mine had 31s with a budget 1.5" front and it rubbed on the inners at full stuff. Now with 3"s of lift you should fit them nicely. You can look at my project thread and see mine with TJ flares but just so you know I'm at close to 7.5" or so in the front with 35s. It might help you compare. I also got a pic somewhere of the truck on 33s with 7 or so up front and cut flares i can try to find it tomm for you. Just advice from someone who didnt do what they wanted first time. if you know where you are going with it as far as max hight and stuff and max tires and what axles if they are being swapped just go ahead and save the money and do it and for now go cheap as possible. You will be disappointed throwing 500 into it now just to rip it all out later. Some stuff you may want to go for now so you don't have to get them later if you do lift it now would be get adjustable stuff that will work up to the lift you want max later and then some. Good luck and do lots of research so you make a truely educated desision on this you wil not regret it then. Cole

What needs to be done to fit the longarm? is it a complete kit i.e. springs and bolts and all or is there extra stuff to be purchased? Cole

Also don't even search for writeups on other sites cause i have for weeks on end without luck but if you do find something let me know. Cole

I am doing that swap as we speak. Mine is from a 91 YJ but all is the same IIRC. Mine had a stock AX-5 also and the YJ also had a AX-5 so theres no issue there. Here are some options. 1 This is what I'm doing I am changing over the wiring and all and keeping the MPI. Now there will be a few mismatched wires on the ignition side and the gages but as far as i can tell so far everything else should be simple. Also if you look to do a 4.0 swap you can imagine it taking the exact same amount of work unless unless its from the same year and style as your truck. It is going to be tedious with wires and all but it seems pretty simple through my planning so far. I should get into the actual swap this week and i should have the motor in memorial day weekend and hopefully running but we will see. I will keep my project thread updated if you want to whatch it. #2 is to swap the block but keep your head and ignition. They are the same block but the head is MPI so it has to go. It would be very straight forward and simple and throwing a rebuild in it. I considered this but my head is also not in the best shape plus i had alot of other equipment on the motor that needed changed so it was actually cheaper for me to go for it all plus i get MPI!!! Hope this helps you out. oh and BTW a heads up on pulling the Harness the junction block on the firewall where the engine wires run into the cab on the drivers side of the YJ should be seperated I.E. the drivers side of the bolck is YJ lighting and thats it so its not even needed so the only wires you have to swap in is the pasenger side of that junction block which actually seperates from the rest and then sperate your lights from the drivers side harness on the MJ and scrap the rest as far as i can tell. ON your MJ there may be a few extra doodads you may have to keep but so far I have just traced the lights portion. I can take some pics and post tomm. Cole

33s with 3" and if you go SOA you could clear 35s with cutting. Cole
-
you are going to run out of room for all your projects if you keep this up. That looks like a nice find. Hows the rust?? Cole
-
You could easily clear with a 3" and cutting. If you plan to go bigger later you might want to consider the SOA rear and a matching lift up front. That way you just have to add a leaf or 2 in the rear and bigger springs up front to go higher. Cole

OK a second plan would be to run a inline pump. HAs anyone got any experience and what do you think about doing it. I'm not sure but i would prob have to unhook the conections and such from the stock one but somehow let it still allow fuel to flow. I am starting to think i might make a fuel cell but i really don't know if i want to as of yet. I just want to do it as easy and simple but keep the cost down without compromising the function and reliability. Any inputs are welcome. BTW JeepcoMJ I see what your saying as far as adaptibility and all. I was hoping i could swap the tanks and be done but its a JEEP so i knew it would be more complicated. Cole

Well I think the XJ one runs in thru the side and mine i THINK is on the top. I havent gotten to look yet but I'm sure someone knows for sure. Cole

OK i have just started research since not much wrenchn' is going on since the baby came. I am doing a swap to the 91+ 2.5 with MPI from My tired 87 2.5 MPI. Now I'm pretty sure that the Fuel pumps and sending units are Diff cause the fuel pressure should be Diff between MPI and TBI. I just want to make sure I'm correct. My main question is would a 91-94 or so XJ fuel tank swap into my truck in plce of the stocker. Or could i make it work easily? Also could I get a sending unit and pump that will fit my stock tank and work on the motor. Now i know i could find alot of this out with a few min-hours online searching but i don't want to spend alot of time on here right now. Thanks for all your answers. Cole

I already got her the first Jeep she will drive. Its a libby walker. I considered painting to match Daddys jeep but Mom said "are you freakin nuts" so i have a little work to do. I am so excited i can't wait till she is helping me wrench and learning about Jeeps. Hopefully The MJ can be her first car but thats 18 years from now so i got alot of maintaining to do to try to make that dream come true. Thanks to all Cole

I thought so to. It was funny cause i was picking on her before he came in saying what if he said she was dialated to a 3 or 4 and she sadi she would be hurting if she was. When he said 6 he was as surprised as us his face was priceless. She didnt start hurting or even feeling contractions until an hour before she had her. So needless to say i have had a crazy weekend and it is just going to get crazier. Cole

So i thought i would share this with my extended family. Went with the wife to the doc on thurs. He was checking over things and as he was he stopped and raised up and as he took off his glove he said "you guys need to head on to the hospital" I was like  why and he said the wife was dialated to a 6 out of 10 for those who don't know. And we had a Baby girl at 1042 am Fri the 3rd of august. She was 4 weeks early but very healthy. Everything checked out OK after a few scares but we are home now and doing great. Her name is Reagan Ansley and i am ordering her the jeep stuff already. :D Cole

Wow some great stories so ill tell mine First week in my 95 mustang after i had been doing a complete gasket replacement from the heads up. Been on the road for 3 days. Went to my now wifes house and was leaving around 1230am and went thru a corner and hit black ice. The rear passed the front and some how i managed to down shift and dump the clutch hard enough to get it to counter steer. I had the front drop off the pavement just for a sec i was so close to running off the road on the wrong side. it took about 300 yards to get it straight. The only thing i think saved me was racing dirt track and learning how to sling a car. Best part is the next week my Coach who is also a drivers ed instructor back into me in the school parking lot driving the Drivers Ed CAR!!!!!!! Cole

JOMJ87 replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well the joints are RE super flex and they are rebuildable. Just weld them up and make sure you don't have them assymbled when you weld cause the race is a poly type material. Kinda self explanitory other then they are the RE small joints. I bought mine thru Holeski but alot of places carry them. The only thing you might need is some kind of threaded rod to weld to it if you go that rought but I put the udjustment on the other end of the arm. Simple and easy. Let me know if there is anything else you need to know. Cole -
So I got carried away with the Sawzall....
