  3. Dropped it off at an Auto Electric shop to solve the wiper and blower issues. He called and said the power distribution panel was corroded and needs replacing along with the main wire harness. YIKES!
  4. So to all you homies who been waiting for me to kick off so you could get my MJ'S, FORGET IT ! It ain't happening YET. :wall: And I almost got seriously injured when I was up there loosening your garage roof rafters. Guess I'll try again in a couple years.
  5. Probably, but you said your running lights don't work either. Fuses are cheap. Buy a fuse kit with a tester in it and test every fuse in your panel. Replace as you go and it shouldn't take more than ten minutes. If new fuses doesn't solve the problem then check your bulbs and connectors at the suspect locations. These old connectors can corrode and need replacing sometimes.

  8. If you are talking about the "flag style" mirrors (small & door mounted) then the window corner style will be a nice upgrade. You can grab mirrors off any XJ Cherokee at a junkyard but the manual ones with a toggle are the easiest to install but they are harder to find. Most XJs came with electric mirrors. When dismantling the mirrors from the parts car, remember to loosen the tiny Allen Screw that holds the toggle assembly to the interior plastic moulding. There is some general instruction on mirrors in the Haynes manuals.
  9. Configured a metal pole/handle to slip over the end of a plumbers wrench which was clamped onto the yoke of my D44. The pole kept the yoke from turning as I leaned over the breaker bar to loosen the pinion nut. Finally! Now I need to buy a seal puller.

  12. :agree: I think I remember that photo as an advertisement.
  13. I would go with a low miles XJ, preferably a 2dr, depending on your family situation. Good luck with the car search.
  14. Clean but pricey. http://ventura.craigslist.org/cto/2325556381.html
  15. Others with more experience than me will probably jump in but rust is a big issue with old trucks. Not only exterior but interior rust under the carpet or vinyl. Broken or missing parts specific to Comanches can be difficult to find so look carefully from the cab backwards. The front has a lot of shared parts with Cherokee XJs. The 4cyl engine is no powerhouse but it is a decent and reliable motor if well maintained. To my knowledge, none are better than others except I believe the horsepower went up during the six years the Comanche was built. (86-92) Good luck and welcome to Comanche Club!

  17. Yes, those are common symptoms of a bad EGR. If it runs better disconnected I guess you could do that until you get a new one. I wouldn't wait too long though, IIRC the EGR can affect the Cat somehow if left unchecked.

  19. I just replaced mine last week. The black plastic attached part I believe is called the transducer, which is standard on the 4.0 engine. The egr vacuum line from the egr solenoid runs to the transducer (red) and the small line runs from the transducer to the valve (green). The hose in yellow connects to that valve nipple. Be sure the valve gasket is in good condition. It sounds like your valve is bad. I am not looking at my engine right now so if I misstated anything, I apologize.

  21. Replaced the EGR valve in the hopes of solving the fluctuating idle but alas, it has not fixed the problem.
  22. When I picked up my AX15 from the seller, it was stuck in reverse. He unscrewed the the back-up switch on the side of the trans and popped it out of reverse with a large screwdriver. He said that trick will work if it ever gets stuck again but I have not had any problems since then.
  23. That's the great thing about owning Comanches, we never run out of future projects! :wrench:
  24. Welcome, first of all. There is a post on how to upload photos from Photobucket or other photo host sites. We thrive on pictures, so please find that post to appease our hunger. With a big budget you may consider swapping in a 4.0 but, whatever you decide, I''m sure will be exciting.
