Wow, that's scary. Thankfully your wife is relatively OK, especially after seeing the carnage to the XJ.
-
Yeah, I didn't really think that through. I'll just leave it off for now and let the electrician sort it all out. Well, I was proud of myself for about 10 minutes anyway!

Strange dash light problem need help asap
MJRemi replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It sounds like a short somewhere but that is where the detective in you kicks in. I was lucky with my 89 and found a break in my ground wire from the battery. I spliced it and had no related issues. Start at the battery or at the tail lights and work your way up. Also check for clutch fluid seeping behind the fuse box. Good Luck! -
Well I didn't have any luck at Autozone or Pep Boys so I cleaned up the duct hose and wrapped it in new duct tape. I used 2" hose clamps to anchor it at both ends and squeezed the coil wire along the length except for the anchored ends. This resulted in a narrow oval shape that seems to allow enough space to clear the fan. Upon testing, I still heard some clicking and realized the blades were also rubbing one of the steel lines from the steering box. I carefully pried the line away from the fan and now have a smooth operating electric fan. On a side note, my R side fog light wiring is bad so I disassembled the fog lights and realized the connector plug on the lights is the same as the fan. I ran the L side fog light plug around the radiator and plugged it into the fan. When I want the fan on I turn on my headlights and hit the fog light switch. This will suffice for three more weeks until I have some major electrical work done and have everything overhauled.

My truck had no aux. fan when I bought it but now it's warming up here in San Diego so I scored a fan from a JY XJ (year unk). This fan has the curved blades and looks much more efficient than the squarish blade type fan. After installing and testing, the blade assembly rubs against the flexible air hose that runs from the front of the air box to the engine. I don't know what it is called but it is wrapped with coil wire and seems to be made with a duct material. There seems to be no way to re-route this hose unless I buy a new one that is about a foot longer. Has anyone dealt with this issue, and if so, what did you come up with?

PA: OEM License plate bracket and Mechanical Fan shroud
MJRemi replied to ComancheKid45's topic in Wanted
Those items are quite common on parts and JY Cherokees and probably cost less than shipping. You should be able to get both for about 5-10 $$. -
I think they would look alright but I would also cut the actual vent opening as much as possible to allow maximum air flow.

What's the remedy to a seized caliper? Is it the piston or do I need to just clean up the calipers and reassemble?

He re-listed at $3500 OBO and will negotiate in person. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/cto/2461188779.html

Driving home from work in bumper 2 bumper traffic, my front brakes started grinding after about 20 minutes. I never had this issue before. I disassembled the brakes expecting to find worn out pads or rotors but everything looks pretty good to my novice eye. I had the rear axle swapped out a few weeks ago and wonder if a proper bleeding of the front wasn't accomplished. Could that be the problem or should I focus somewhere else?

And don't exclude that 4 month time period in 1983 when the Cherokee line was being redeveloped by Bernie Steinhower. I think the only existing Jeep BS was last seen in Colorado.

Teamcherokee has this one for $73. Scroll down the page. http://www.teamgrandwagoneer.com/parts/ ... more2.html

Rockauto.com has one but the picture looks different than the one that came off my truck when I upgraded to AX15. PN= Anchor#2625 It might be just a weird angle in the photo. If you don't have any luck finding it, you can have my used one for shipping cost.

I can't find my Hayne's right now but I think you use 75W90 gear oil, either standard or synthetic. If anyone has other advice, feel free to correct me. Walmart has a decent selection and prices.

I've read that heating it with a torch or even burning it out are common methods. Just be sure you are outdoors if you decide to burn out the bushing. If you are able to place the shackle in a vice, you can pound out the bolt sleeve with a same size socket and then the bushing should come right out (maybe). Good luck!

I replaced the front bumper with a nice chrome one from a JY Cherokee and added the factory tow hooks I bought from Summerinmaine (Jim). I also swapped in a solid wing window on the passenger side so both sides are now solid. I swapped in both hockey stick door handles and the visors with nice black ones from the JY.

I always thought ESC stood for Eccentric Sexagenarian Coloradoite. -
I was all set to buy it and planned on driving it back to San Diego or leaving it in Sequim as my Washington truck. I might be able to get the new owner's info but I was a bit upset and didn't think of it at the time. Yes, that was the factory cover rolled up between the cab and roll bar.

I just spent 10 days in Sequim, Washington which to me is paradise. It is also Jeep country (and Subaru). I could not believe how many XJs I saw as well as 3 MJs. This is a story about an MJ I saw on my 9th day. At 11:00 am, the day before I fly back to San Diego, I'm driving with my family on a country road surrounded by farms. This road is four minutes from where we have been staying. Parked in a field, next to a driveway, I see a Comanche with a "For Sale" sign in the windshield. Like each of you would be compelled to do, I stopped to check it out. No one was home and I got voicemail when I dialed the contact number. I left a message and decided to take photos of this MJ due to it's equipment options, which to certain members, would be reason enough to buy this truck. 1986 XLS 4X4 Auto 2.8 V6 w/86,000 original miles AMC 20 Metric Tonne Factory Winch Bumper " " Brush Guard " " Tow Hooks " " Roll Bar w/lights " " Tan Buckets/Console No visible rust Exterior=7/10 Interior=8/10 Asking price...$1500 I left with full intentions of returning later that day. Ten minutes into the drive, the resident calls my cell and tells me her husband is selling the truck and will be home at 4:30 and I should come back at that time. That is roughly 5 long hours but the truck is parked on a country road in a small town. At 3:30 the same woman calls my cell. " I just wanted to let you know that someone that looked at the truck a week ago just stopped by and bought the truck. They just drove away. Sorry". After weeping and vomiting for about an hour, I called to talk to the husband about his truck and to get the VIN for our registry. He's a very nice older man who kept the truck up in excellent mechanical condition. He and his wife have only owned Jeeps for over 40 years and this was his 3rd Comanche. I told him about CC and he was willing to give me the VIN for the registry. He sold the truck for $1500. The flight attendant kept asking me if I was OK due to the depressed, sick look I had all the way back to San Diego. I told her I had a great time but not great timing.

Awesome! If you want great Italian food, go to Bove's in Burlington on 68 Pearl St. Be sure to try their meatballs. I grew up near there so say hello to everyone you see!
