  1. Ever since I got my '88 Cherokee, it's had a major sputtering problem. Last night, about 5 miles into my drive home from helping my mom run the laundromat, the truck backfired real hard and began running perfectly. It doesn't have a cat on it, so I know it couldn't have been clogged, so that's out the window, but still leaves me curious as to what it might have been. My initial thought was it had bad gas, as it used to be a farm truck and this is the first full tank of gas I've had through it since I bought it. So, what is everyone's opinions/ideas on why an '88 Cherokee 4.0 would do that? Next question. I know all abut the wonders of Seafoam from running it through the gas tank and oil in Baby on occasion, but now I am wanting to run some through the tank and directly through the motor of the XJ when I get home on Monday, but what vacuum line is it under the hood that is to be used to thoroughly clean it all out? A pic would be of great help in this case.
  2. Glad to hear/see you back and doing well Pat. If I had the money to make it down there for our game of chess, I'd do it right now while you have down time. And have a couple/few of these with you as well .
  3. I know it's not what you're looking for specifically, but I have an electric blanket that plugs into the cig lighter. It was borrowed to, and then given to me a couple years ago so I didn't freeze on a return home trip from a meet and greet.
  4. What else might be missing? Money for me to get it.
  5. :wall: :grrrr:  :fool:
  6. It's also staying mine, sorry akamcbird. And sorry Rob, you said I could take it, so I did. It's a great addition to Baby too. :D It will in the future have a hole cut into the driver's side of it though. :brows:
  7. Correct Rob, it is meant to be read as 'The person below has more than one Jeep?'. I just put it into a regular statement instead of a question.
  8. ^ I am having to get rid of one of my MJ's, but my substitute is an XJ. > I have an odd habit of collecting energy drink cans, current collection is close to 200 different ones. v Has more than one Jeep.
  9. Welcome to our corner of the institution. I'm sure you know that your truck has been repainted, so we can't really tell what trim package you have without more details; even then it's more than likely just a guessing game, as Jeep was known to mix and match, as well as have many custom ordered oddballs. As for lift, if it's a 4wd, it looks stock, if 2wd, it may have a small lift in it. Looks like a solid base to start with though.
  10. About as silly as they get right here.
  11. Agreed with 89Eliminator and Geonovast, I have done this using ZJ rear coils in the front with a 2.5. The initial drop was around 2", but has settled to 3" currently. The only thing that needed to be done to accommodate the coils and drop was that the upper bumpstop retainer had to be ground down a bit all around, and an alignment afterwards. For the rear, I have a set of 3" STEEL (do NOT use aluminum, as it will cause corrosion issues between the two metals) blocks that will be added to the factory SUA setup. EDIT: If you click on "Baby" in my sig, it links to my build thread, and has a lot of pics before, during, and after, including a side by side of the coils.
  12. HOLY WOW!! Wade, whatever you do, do NOT call that one a beater, I have beaters, that thing is a diamond in the not so rough rough.
  13. Or putting money into a JEEP thats only 2WD. Just kidding Don. ;) I love your truck. :D Rob L. Ouch, and double ouch! Both of you just killed me there; cowl hood on a 4cyl, I'm going to be doing; money into a 2wd Jeep, yep, I'll be putting a lot of money into one, coincidentally, both on the same truck. I guess I must be :chillin: ?
  14. Cherokee shackles are actually shorter then the Comanche ones. And I wouldn't suggest using blocks for anything SOA; too much concern for axle wrap, corrosion, wrecked leafs, etc.. Personally, to match an 8" lift in front, I'd look for a set of 4wd or metric tonne leafs, and build the perches similar to Jeepco, and call it good. Also, as noted, because of our wheelbases, the SYE isn't necessarily needed, but does add a bit of peace of mind.
  15. Unless you use the rear coils up front. That nets you an about 2.5-3" drop.
  16. It is however, possible to do, trust me on that one. :D
  17. ^^^ Needs more chrome. :D
  18. LOL, very nice.
  19. Cool, can't wait to hear it now then. What did you do to it though? Chop it?
  20. It didn't before?
  21. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=921205 Shows you how to change the new cluster to reflect the old cluster's mileage reading.
  22. The thing with them cars is that they're going to use them for derby cars this summer and don't want to deal with taking the glass out, so why not just blow them out. Plus it looks cool. I know the feeling on being broke though, I'm so broke I can't even pay attention. I'm so broke I owe Walgreen's $1 for my last refill of T3's, as I don't even have that much to my name.
  23. There's been a couple days I felt like it, but I'm still here, knocking myself out on 4-8 Tylenol 3's a day, depending on how bad the pain is that day, and ibuprofins in between. Can't help you on the sticks though, I just know a couple friends have a couple to set in old cars. :D
  24. Couple things to note; 1) Please learn proper punctuation, it looks like one big jumbled run-on sentence in the first post. 2) I hate to break it to you, but unless you cut the rusted metal out from the floorboards before welding in the patches, you're not getting rid of the problem, just masking it. Also, I hope you didn't weld the factory drain holes shut. Other than that, looks like a great start.
  25. That's why it has an adjustable lift kit in it. Don't even need to adjust the tracbar or get an alignment afterwards either.
