Sun visor reupholstery
pizzaman09 replied to pizzaman09's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You are welcome. Several months later the visors and electrical connections are still working perfectly. I did have to pull my headliner and glue it a second time as all of the fabric dropped. I'm guessing I didn't use enough spray adhesive. The second time I used the 3M headliner adhesive instead of 3M super 77. Additionally I did it on a warmer day within the temperature range listed on the adhesive can. -
What kind of differential is this?
pizzaman09 replied to Rhys Chalmers's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Lucky find. I have a D44 with LSD as well, it works wonderfully, can easily spin both rear tires or cause nasty axle hop depending on load and tires I have on it. -
I'm a big DeWalt fan. I have their smaller string trimmer which is awesomely powerful, smooth and light. I also have the big bad 60V leaf blower which clean eat battery power but it's also quite good. I have also used the small DeWalt electric chainsaw, it is phenomenal and am thinking of purchasing one. I have way way more grass to mow than any current electric could conceivably mow, I'm running a 1986 Gravely promaster 50 zero turn for that. I'm waiting for the day that a robo mower could mow up to 5 acres, or a robo brush hog.

1990 Comanche Eliminator
pizzaman09 replied to pizzaman09's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
You can, though I've twice had issue with the blue LEDs not working. Nick fixed it for me, though last week they went out again and I haven't gotten around to asking what I can do to fix it if I care. The stock green is actually easier on the eyes at night compared to the color I had mine set. I just had it set to match my radio head unit. -
No, we were planning on purchasing two vehicles. Ended up only getting the Comanche, we rented a GMC Yukon as the second ride. Traded off driving on the 3500 miles home.

I purchased an 88 Comanche out in Los Angeles and drove it home to Pennsylvania. It was an awesome trip with 6 friends where we wanted to buy craigslist cars and drive them cross country. I didn't even know what a Comanche was when I found it. I sold it at the end of the summer as I simply didn't need another vehicle, especially a truck. It was instant regret. I then spent the next three years searching until the need and exactly right truck showed up for sale. I will never sell this one. I've sold cars that I don't regret selling, a 2002 BMW M5 (the ultimate sedan) and a 2013 Mini (an autocross weapon). The 88 Comanche was just an experience that I couldn't shake. Keep the Comanche and start putting miles on it.

That would be fantastic. I have wondered if they are the same but have not found proof.

I would pay to have center caps nicely printed for my eliminator wheels.

I always travel with a socket and wrench set. That's it. The types of failures I've had on long trips required a tow. It was on the newest car I've ever owned, a 2013 Mini with a slow coolant leak that resulted in a melted down engine. I've brought duct tape, zip ties and super glue and used them before. As stated, preventative maintenance is key, rarely catastrophic stuff happens without warning.

I've listed 3 vehicles on Bring a Trailer, an 88 Comanche (the first one they ever listed), a 13 Mini S, and an 85 Ferrari 308gtsi. I managed to sell both the Comanche and Ferrari on BaT. I personally love the platform as a seller. Seller pays a $99 listing fee and the buyer pays a 5% fee in addition to the sale price to BaT. They build the ad based on your provided info. They are picky on the vehicles they list and will not list unless your requested reserve is reasonable and or you list without a reserve. The only minorly annoying thing about BaT is it takes a long time to get a listing up, I've had it take anywhere from 1.5-3 months to have the ad written and the posting in queue to list. More or less they are looking for enthusiast vehicles to sell, they don't sell mundane every day stuff. Jeeps of the 00s and earlier vintage definitely fall into the enthusiast category. A lot of Cherokees cross Bring a Trailer and there are many knowledgeable users. They will find and point out all the positive and negative aspects of your vehicle.

Personally I'd do a BMW M57 diesel. Very strong factory power numbers. The engine was used in the X5d and 335d here in the US, comes with a nice twin turbo setup. Adapter plates to connect them to an AX15 already exist.

Thanks for the explanation Nick. I might have to try that out.

The one function I do not understand no matter how much I play with it is the Fill Up function. I can't grasp what to enter or what it's supposed to tell me. Does anyone understand it?

Love the build, power but hidden under an unassuming body.

Some phots in the daylight of the clock panel 4.1 version of I remember correctly. It looks very good and fits the interior design pretty well.

Missing Front Drive Shaft
pizzaman09 replied to Drahcir495's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would assume the XJ and MJ have the same front driveshaft. -
Nick seems to have printed it show face down on his print bed with a mat finish surface on the print bed. It matches the interior darn well. I'll grab a picture when my friends get back from the store with my truck. The 3d print holds up great, a perfect fit relative to the original clock.

I love my clock panel version. Helps me most with coolant temp so I know when to turn on the heat in the winter. Helped identify a slow O2 sensor. I've been most recently using the manifold pressure measurement to sort out the poor performance of my CAD.

I actually saw another one out and about when. I was driving mine the other day! Apparently there is a dark red or burgundy colored one in my town.

Bleeding brakes - what am I forgetting?
pizzaman09 replied to JefCooks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm generally a fan of gravity bleeding, fill the reservoir and then crack the bleeder. Walk away for 10 minutes and see if you have fluid coming out the bleeder. -
I've recently went through this on an 86 F150, quite repairable if you fancy some mig welding. It's nice to have preformed panels, but the reality is you can just buy steel and starting going to town fixing stuff.

For the first time today, I saw another one on the road while I was in mine! The other person was excited to see one as well.

Your point about the line is interesting, I suspect it is original on my truck. I'm willing to do the work, I have access to a two post lift, I just am unexciting about wrangling an AX15 with a transfer case attached. Getting a transmission aligned with the pilot bearing is always frustrating. As far as I can tell, the LUK lasted less than 1k, I've been limping it along for a while.
