  1. Both Portland (which is in a race for the 'Weirdest city in America' with Austin, TX) and Seattle are hotbeds, but you have to remember, no matter which way the political winds are blowing, the media is controlled and spun.
  2. The other night, Mrs. Maveric made a crustless "messy pizza bake," with pepperoni, sausage, onion, bell pepper and sauce, topped with mozzarella. Really delicious, and for me, very keto-friendly. But after dinner, I posited the question of what it would be like in a roll, and the next day for lunch, she heated the leftovers and put it in a bun...it was a bit messy, but still quite delicious!
  3. With the help of Mr. and Mrs. Maveric, I made the move from Western Washington to South Texas, about halfway between San Antonio and Austin. Seguin isn't big, but it's less than 40 miles to San Antonio on I-10 and almost double that to Austin on I-35. I lived in Western Washington most of my life, watched it expand almost exponentially because of Boeing, and the Dot Com bubble later, and though it is beautiful all year long, and there's plenty to see and do, the sheer numbers of people and the political climate, plus my own personal rut I was stuck in, showed me I needed a change of scene. If you want to seriously consider the Puget Sound basin, I would recommend the West side of Puget Sound (Kitsap and Mason Counties), between Gig Harbor and Kingston, which give you access to Tacoma by bridge, Seattle directly by ferry, and Edmonds to Marysville along the I-5 corridor, also by ferry. Bremerton and Silverdale are Navy towns, so someone with a handyman business, connected to the Navy families through both word-of-mouth and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, could build a sizeable business (and necessary good reputation) just in Kitsap County.
  4. I could do that to the S#!tbox, but I'd also have to put in a camper window....
  5. Oh, I can think of a few things...water storage, battery tray, fold-out/drop-out gas gennie, I even wondered if an alternator could be coupled to the pinion yoke (assuming you didn't gut the diff or swap to a trailer axle) and use it to charge up the tray of batteries while you're on the move.
  6. The Canal and locks were a marvel of engineering in their day...but malaria was a constant PITA to deal with. Medical and health advancements by the U.S. Army Medical Corps tackled that. I served on an aircraft carrier, and it still only takes fifteen-foot seas to make life aboard ship challenging (aircraft operation regulations forbid flight ops with the ship's roll exceeding 8 degrees list), but I had buddies on smallboys (destroyers and frigates) that had the same kind of challenges you have on your tug. At least I never had to chase a meal or pee sitting down from rough weather!
  7. Oh, I didn't 'probe it wrong,' rather, I grounded it out, as leaning over made me move the probe inadvertantly and grounding that ring you just discussed. My apologies if I wasn't clear on that.
  8. Yes, but overflow recovery is because of coolant expansion, and overflow is recovered by contraction during cooldown. The pressurized expansion tanks simply make monitoring actual system capacity easier, but the Jeep bottle was a poor design.
  9. Just the 'bedroom.' Gotta put both hands on your wife's @$$ and give a heavy shove.
  10. Haha, funny story from my Navy BE/E school. I was working a module concerning voltage doubling/tripling circuitry, and the circuit cards had some nasty caps on them. Anyway, my card had a bad diode, and as I touched the silly scope probe to the test point, I leaned over to look at my study sheet. BANG!!! I sit up straight, and there's paper from one capacitor's sheathing dropping like confetti. Would've been hilarious on video. Anyway, the card went from 'bad diode' to 'bad diode, bad resistor, and destroyed capacitor.' They gave me a new card, I sussed out the bad component (voltage divider resistor), passed the module. Felt one inch tall. Oh, and I got to pay for the silly scope probe I burned.
  11. Try brake cleaner (essentially dry cleaning solvent). Try it on an inconspicuous area first, to make sure it doesn't strip color or melt plastic. If you're good to go, spray it into an old white rag, place another rag on the other side of the stain, and vigorously rub the stain.
  12. Well, no, we don't expect all that much from it. So we're gonna test it first, and if it works, we'll put it up for sale. But thank you for your assessment.
  13. Somebody oughta write a country song about a guy losing his gal because Autocorrect.
  14. So what's the "XJ" suffix on the model number? Is that to designate it's for an XJ body? Maveric and I found this at the J/Y this morning, in a '93 XJ 2-door. Anyway, Minuit, about how much does a working radio like this sell for used, with no mods?
  15. A new 3rd year? At a 2-year school?
  16. So the gauge plastic is still acrylic? Jesus, they will be cheap any chance they get! But Meguiars recommends #10 for both acrylic and polycarbonate. https://www.meguiars.com/professional/products/m10-mirror-glaze-clear-plastic-polish-8-oz
  17. They burned off?
  18. My fingers are way too big, and I hate the smell anyway. Even the Dana fill holes in the covers are too small.
  19. Reminds me of a story the son of a dear departed friend (Roger, about his dad Dale) told me. Now, my friend Dale, like me, was a big, tall guy, and his son Roger was a chip off the ol' block. But he drove a Geo Metro 4-door. Anyway, he told us about Dale flying to visit, and he picked Dale up at the airport. After they squeezed their big asses into the car, Roger asks him where he wanted to go first. Dale said, "To a hock shop, so I can buy a chainsaw and cut the roof off this car!"
  20. Pretty nice luck there!
  21. Actually, get down to brass tacks, both are expansion tanks. One is included in the cooling loop, one is outside of it. This is an Amazon link to the tank we have: https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-54002-Engine-Coolant-Recovery/dp/B016V2BIB0/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=coolant+reservoir&qid=1595553176&s=automotive&sprefix=coolant+reservoir&sr=1-12
  22. Oops...I dunno how that happened, but I'm trying to find how to nix a post.
