There are a few differences with Ford vs Chevy outers. But it's easy to just go all in and choose one or the other. There's really no strength advantage for the 5 vs 6 spindle bolts. Other parts will fail before you break that. Standard Ford was 5 on 5.5" wheel bolt pattern while standard chevy was 6 on 5.5". I don't remember how well the wheel hub interchanges. It could possibly affect brakes. I believe both had an 8 on 6.5" wheel hub option in the ¾ ton that is just a wheel hub and brake parts. The knuckle and spindle don't change. For me, I'd figure out the rear axle bolt pattern I want to run and then pick the knuckle and hub/brakes to get a matching bolt pattern up front. If you do go with the ¾ ton 8 on 6.5" I'd lean towards chevy and do the JB7 brakes. That gives you bigger rotor and calipers that were an option on the K20 in the 80s.

Whatever winch you get, it's only as good as your battery. Winches draw over 300 smps. Some can draw over 500. No alternator is going to feed that. You need a strong battery. Get a good quality battery with a high CCA rating. Your winch will thank you.

Probably has red locktite on the bolts.

Roses are red Violets are blue I fixed my Jeep It's good as n....now what's wrong?

I did not try either of those wheels. And I no longer own the XJ so I can't check them. I suspect all 15" wheels rub the same.

I have thought of that. I'd need a couple originals as templates. -

Gonna build an exo cage. I need to do body work and paint first. I may also end up bending some steering and/or suspension pieces depending on how exactly everything lays out. I'm doing 1.75" OD for the cage. Probably get a die for 2" for the suspension and steering. The bender can do up to 0.250" wall tubing. -

It'll be a while until I can use this but I wanted it to be here ahead of time. The hydraulic pump is on the way. -
How much should I pay for Rubicon JK axles?
derf replied to jakesmog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
TJ Rubicons have the LSD/locker. But they operate at very low air pressure (5psi) so you need the compressors that come with the TJ. And they're not as strong as they could be. Most people ditch the factory lockers when they fail and go with aftermarket alternatives. Almost nobody seeks out factory TJ lockers. Jks went to a different brand of lockers and don't have any LSD in them. -

What exhaust manifolds did you use?

Last axle video for a bit. I'm going to move on to body work next. -

Yeah, it's on the way. I have to pull the drivetrain and do some body work. Then paint. Then the cage will probably be done. This is a slow project but I will have videos of most of it. -

correct speedometer drive gear for NP231
derf replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Using revs per mile with that equation will make you as accurate as the manufacturer is. Granted, that's not precise by any means but it's the best baseline to go with for general use. You'll generally be within 1MPH of actual speed with that method. That's assuming, of course, that your mechanical speedometer is anywhere in the vicinity of accurate. And that's not always a given either. -
correct speedometer drive gear for NP231

Inflated diameter is inaccurate for figuring out the speedo gear. Best bet is to find the published spec for the exact tire you are running. It should have a revolutions per mile number. That number is based on the actual rolling diameter of the tire on a vehicle on the road. Plug it in to this equation: Rev per mile × axle ratio × 13 ÷ 1000 = tooth count. Round down to have your speedo read a hair higher than actual speed. -

Knowing exactly which tire you are using will help you figure out which gear you want. Most 32" tires are not 32" in diameter and that affects which speedo gear you want. -

Some cutting and welding fun. -
I've seen too many people trying to sell an allegedly valuable car but they can't find a buyer. They get a whole lot of "I wish I could..." and "Someone should grab that" responses but no one shows up with cash. So it ends up getting scrapped. That has happened to me once. Almost twice. I hated to scrap the old CJ but after a couple of months no one showed up. Fortunately someone got the J10 though they stole it from me at the price they offered. Still, it was more than the scrap yard.
