  1. http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/index.html The only Fram filter which got semi-positive reviews was the Fram Tough Guard. The Fram Extra Guard got the following review:
  2. The barrel is discolored because I haven't repainted it yet. Before I built the smoker, I burned a bunch of paper and cardboard inside the barrel to clean it out. It had vegetable oil in it, but I still wanted to burn away the coating inside the barrel, so it doesn't affect the flavor of the food. The fire got hot enough to not only burn away the inside coating, but also part of the outside paint. I actually expected this, and was planning on buying the special paint used for grills and wood stoves. By the way, the original paint color was blue...but the entire barrel was black on the outside by the time it was done burning. As far as the legs go, I was able to get the kettle to hold my entire body weight prior to adding the barrel. Tomorrow I'm going to test it further by loading a bunch of water inside, and making sure it doesn't collapse. If all is good, I'll be testing it tomorrow by smoking some hot sausages.
  3. Here's some pics of the custom truck cap... It has a cargo rack, and a roof vent. We used to use this camping at the beach.
  4. Here's the only logo on the cap... Looks like they're still open, but the area code has changed from 703 to 540. They have a web site, but theres not much info on it. I'd give them a call and see if they can help you. http://shellystruckcaps.com/
  5. Weber Charcoal Grill 55 Gallon Barrel Drum Assorted nuts, bolts, washers, and brackets. Took about 5 hours to build. Test fired it today, managed to maintain a temperature of about 160 degrees for an hour, using only 9 charcoal bricks. Barrel lifts off the kettle so charcoal can be added without losing existing heat inside the smoker. The smoker is bolted together, not welded, for easy disassembly. TODO: Add handles on each side Add brackets to the top so the lid is attached better (right now there's a small gap at the top) Paint the barrel black
  6. Looks to me like you've got a new vehicle to start working on. That's your first part. Start building!!!!
  7. My dad bought the cap for my MJ when he bought the MJ. I think it was a truck cap dealer/manufacturer somewhere in central Maryland. I'll look at the manufacturer logo tomorrow, they might still be in business, dunno. One good place to look would be a junk yard. Might get lucky. If you find one thats damaged, you could always rebuild the cap.
  8. Same problem here on my passenger side. Same fix. I just don't roll my window down the whole way on the passenger side.
  9. 1) Grand Cherokee Limited Rims 2) Cup Holder between seat and gearshift (as a bonus the seat won't move forward and my wife can't reach the pedals) 3) TBD - Most likely custom paint job once I get some extra money
  10. My MJ was a gift from my dad.
  11. Don't make the same mistake I did, and use a regular wrench on the clutch line flare. Use a flare wrench instead. :wall: Make sure you properly bleed the clutch line. You'll need a helper to work the clutch pedal. While you're replacing the Clutch Master Cylinder, don't let any fluid drip inside the cab. The fuse box is directly below the CMC, and brake fluid is corrosive.
  12. I believe that it should be the same bolt pattern. In my experience Dodge/Jeep bolt patterns are the same. However, I don't know if the backspacing will be the same.
  13. Awesome Kyle! You'll love it. My dad bought a similar model Wrangler when he gave me the MJ. Bright red. He just wanted a newer Jeep :clapping:
  14. Mine only came with a cheap plastic case. :(
  15. You mean like more Jeep SUVs? http://wikicars.org/en/Jeep_Compass http://wikicars.org/en/Jeep_Commander *snicker*
  16. Anyone know where I could obtain a replacement radio antenna assembly for a MJ? Could always go to the junk yard, but it'll probably be rusted, and possibly a :grrrr: to get out. I'd prefer a new one. My MJ never had an antenna. It used to have a black plastic cover for the antenna hole, which easily fell out, and my dad replaced with...white caulking.... :wall: On a related note, does anyone know of a good method of removing an extremely large glob of caulking without damaging the surrounding metal?
  17. First time I've seen that design for a SporTruck. Is that stock for 91, or custom? It looks like good inspiration for when I take care of the rust spots on my SporTruck.
  18. I'm curious who else still has the original owners manual for their MJ? Multi-MJ owners, feel free to select more than one option.
  19. I have a master plan.... I just want new Comanche's to scavenge parts from. And the parts WILL FIT. :wrench: :thwak: I will make them fit! Somehow... P.S. Yes, I'm insane.

  21. My Grandfather was a jeep mechanic in WWII. So I guess my love of Jeeps is in my genes too
  22. http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-1989_Jeep.htm Only thing I could find. No mention of a Comanche hitch.
  23. Brewing and Vinting are an extremely similar process. I simply refer to beer making or wine making as home brewing for simplicity sake, since my equipment works for either. Sadly, distilling Whiskey without a license has never been made legal for home use since the Civil War. Home-made spirits are in the genes I guess. My great grandfather helped run trucks full of whiskey from Blue Blazes Still... http://www.ellenjaye.com/blueblazes.htm http://www.nps.gov/archive/cato/hrs/hrs4a.htm He was there in the morning before the police raid that shut the still down. Ironically, I'm pretty sure we can trace my wife's family tree back to the Deputy Sheriff who was killed in the raid. My Great Grandfather's biggest complaint was how tiny the "demonstration" still at Catoctin Mountain Park is, and confirmed to me they really did use a locomotive boiler for the distilling process. That's how big an operation it was.
  24. There is an aftermarket conversion kit available for TJ Wranglers which will turn them into pickup trucks... It's called the "Brute" http://www.aev-conversions.com/products/brute/ It costs $8,995, plus $500 shipping. If I ever win the lotto, I will be buying a used TJ and one of these kits, and building a Brute.
  25. Who else does home brewing? What have you made? I've been brewing wine for about a year now in my spare time. First batch was bottled Nov. 2009, and was made with fresh grapes. Second batch I'm in the process of bottling, and was made with fresh strawberries. After this batch is bottled I'm going to be giving the wine making a break, and helping my father in law make some beer. My equipment can be used for both.
