  1. Time grows near...soon I will be getting the rust spots taken care of, and getting my MJ repainted. Sadly I can't do this myself, as I don't have the space or the equipment. But fortunately the local MAACO does a great job, as my family has dealt with them in the past for several auto accidents. It's going to be a nice bright red, like the day my dad bought it. I'm going to order replacement stickers for the tailgate from JeepSticker.com. However, I'm debating what to do with the sides. Here's a photo of the current sides: I'm thinking of replacing the side design with something simpler, which still says SporTruck. I've looked through a few posts, but haven't seen much about replacing the SporTruck decals. Has anyone created a custom SporTruck decal before? I'm just looking for ideas.
  2. Hey guys, So I just found that AutoZone.com has free repair guides for a lot of common problems with the Comanche. The only catch is you have to register. The guides are pretty decent though, they give step by step on how to inspect and replace parts. :clapping:
  3. Put on a ComancheClub.com window sticker. Thanks Pete!!!!!
  4. Ever since I joined these forums I've been playing in my head with a reliable way of creating new taillights for Comanches, since they seem to be in such short supply. I honestly had no idea taillights were such a rarity, but then I guess that's something you wouldn't realize until you need to replace them. One idea I've had is box out the tail lights with metal the same thickness as the rest of the body, then attach Wrangler lights. ...and as soon as I can talk my wife into buying a second MJ, I just might try it!
  5. Were the lights functional before replacement? Have you tried opening and closing both doors? Check your dome light switch inside the door frame. Sounds like it may not be functioning properly. It's possible both switches went bad.
  6. You may want to first start off trying to create an online newsletter for MJ/XJ owners, before going to print. See how many people are interested in an electronic copy, before you pay lots of cash for printing magazines.
  7. I don't believe this is a BIOS problem. There is a difference between physical drives and partitions. One physical drive can contain multiple partitions When you performed your clone, you may have cloned the partition (C:), and not the physical drive. Unfortunately under Windows XP, it's not possible without 3rd party software to expand the current partition. This results in a 500 GB physical drive with one assigned partition with a size of 40 GB. The remainder of the disk remains unusable until you format it, and create an additional partition. Take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309000 You'll want to use the unallocated space to create a new (second) primary partition. You can then use the second partition to install additional programs. Just make sure when installing you specify the new drive letter.
  8. I'm trying to avoid losing any bed space, as I do haul stuff with the truck quite frequently.
  9. My biggest problem with cash for clunkers is that a lot of decent, drivable vehicles were destroyed forever in exchange for new (overpriced?) vehicles. Those "clunkers" could have been donated by the government or dealer to charities such as http://www.carshelpingpeople.org/ Instead, the vehicles were reduced to useless scrap. By the way, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_Allowa ... ate_System the EPA stated the1993 Jeep Comanche Pickup 2WD was ineligible for this program? :huh???: Verified this against the source at http://content.usatoday.com/communities ... 68495610/1 Way to go EPA.
  10. Yes, the clutch master cylinder is leaking into the cab. Luckily it does not appear to be leaking fast. Only leaks with lots of shifting. It also appears to be leaking onto the floor, and missing the fuse panel completely. Thank god for little things I suppose. I did get some funny looks from a co-worker or two..."whats that liquid all over your left shoe? Did you miss the toilet?" :wall: I shifted the floor mat up so it catches any leaks overnight, if there are any. I've never replaced the clutch master cylinder before. Yes it has been replaced, but last time it was by a mechanic. I'd like to replace it myself and save a little money. Plus I'll learn something in the process. I searched but couldn't find any DIY posts on how to replace the master cylinder. Anyone kind enough to point me in the right direction? I did see one post about the CMC simply being loose? Where can I check to tighten it? Many thanks.
  11. Don't trust that first link. http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/evs/1702561486.html I doubt that "bestdealhomes" lives in Toledo AND Detroit.
  12. Here we go, something like this is what I had in mind, but with the tire a bit lower: http://www.jcroffroad.com/Merchant2/mer ... y_Code=XJB Thanks for the link. I think its a good starting point, between that post, and the link above.
  13. I recently obtained what appears to be a WWII Willys Jeep gas can. It was in my Grandfather's basement for a long time. He was an Army Jeep Mechanic, and served in Normandy. Combine this with the fact that I need a full size spare tire mount, and I think I've got a new project (although it might be a while till I can actually start on it, due to funding). I'm thinking about trying to build or adapt a swing-away tire mount/fuel can mount for the tailgate of my MJ. A cross between http://www.jk-forum.com/showthread.php? ... re-carrier and http://www.willys-mb.co.uk/images/jeep- ... 8-A1-1.jpg Kind of a way to pay homage to the original Jeep. But I still want the mount to swing away, so I can still lower the tailgate. I figure probably reinforce under/around the right taillight and bolt the mount to there. Anyone ever try anything like this before? Success stories? Horror stories? Any pointers? Just throwing around ideas for now. If the project appears unfeasible or too expensive, I'll probably just abandon it.
  14. Cleaned the dome light connectors. Re-installed, works like a champ.
  15. Cleaning the connectors worked great. :clapping: Thanks guys! I found that a pointed dremel drill grinder bit on the slowest speed possible gets the job done, and even rotates the little wheel as you're cleaning it.
  16. I'm just curious how many people have had to replace their bumpers, or been lucky like me and still have the original. If you own more than one MJ, feel free to select multiple options.
  17. Copper? They made them out of copper? Then put them above the vents where moisture could get to them? Yea before I even bothered going out to get new bulbs I tested the connector. Switches are in very good shape, no signs of corrosion or wear. Thanks for the tips. I'll try cleaning them, but if that doesn't work I'll cut the back off and put a new light assembly in myself.

  19. Brought the bed cap home today. I'll post pics after we clean it up tomorrow. You guys are going to love it, my dad made some special modifications to it.
  20. Yes, both dome lights rotate up and down freely. The wheel moves, but it does look slightly rusted. Any suggestions on cleaning it? It looks pretty delicate, I don't want to break it while trying to clean off the rust.
  21. I believe those are 225 70 R16's, same size tire I have on my MJ. http://www.finishlinewheels.com/JEEP/GR ... OKEE/1998/
  22. Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out why my dome lights aren't working. It's been this way since I got the Jeep from my dad. I replaced the bulbs, and verified I have current at the connector, but the lights simply don't work. The dome lights appear to be in good shape. Could the terminals simply be corroded? Any recommendations on cleaning the terminals? Any thoughts? Thanks!
  23. I know on mine the teeth are actually wore down from years of use.
