  1. Well, I'm just kind of trying to throw around ideas here. I've found the Jeep community to be a great bunch of people, but I've noticed there seems to be this small gap where there's sites devoted to just Comanche owners, sites devoted to just Wrangler owners, etc...but no means of bringing all the sites together. I think it would be great to have a site with basic repair instructions, model info, etc, and have something like "Hey, can't find what you're looking for? Visit this web site based upon what type of jeep you own...ComancheClub...JKOwners....etc.
  2. Hey guys... I've been looking around at different Jeep sites (Comanche and non Comanche), and I'm thinking it might be a good idea to create a Wiki where we can gather all the tech information in one organized place. Thoughts? I went ahead and grabbed http://jeep.wikia.com in case anyone is interested.
  3. FYI - The emergency brake still works, in that you can use it in an emergency should your regular brakes fail. The brake simply won't function as a parking brake. I normally park my MJ on level ground, so I haven't bothered fixing it. However, you've got my curiosity peaked now, and I may have to take a look at mine and see how hard it is to swap out. I used to drive an old Ford F250 which had a similar brake pedal. I might take a trip to the local junkyard and see if it looks compatible.
  4. I actually started troubleshooting similar problems with my MJ today. I believe one of my lights might be loose. Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. Of course, while trying to troubleshoot I discovered that one of the screwheads on my left taillight is completely stripped out, and another screw is missing. The rest of the screws are starting to get pretty rusted. So I'm going to go find some new screws, replace all the screws on my taillights, then start troubleshooting the turn signal issue. I'll take some pics while I'm working on it, and post what I figure out. One of the first places I'm going to start troubleshooting is swap bulbs. Since the one turn signal is working, and the other isn't, I'll swap bulbs in the back, then the front, and see if it could be anything to do with the bulbs.
  5. I used to have a similar model laptop I used for gaming. I think my motherboard lasted about a year after the wireless went. I did the same thing, grabbed an external usb wireless adapter. I've decided that from now on I will be purchasing desktops only for gaming. If I want mobile connectivity, I'll just use my android phone. Maybe someday spend a couple hundred on a netbook.
  6. Thanks for the warning. I'm probably going to use some sort of tinted plexiglass, to keep inside cool.
  7. Mine has this problem too. I just use one of these now. :rotf:
  8. I don't take my little 2WD on trails, so my spare parts are limited to the following: Parts: Electrical Tape Hose Tape Lugnuts Tools: Knife Adjustable Wrench Hammer Fluids: Oil Pre-mixed Coolant Windshield Washer Fluid
  9. I'm southeast of Hagerstown. I actually work in Frederick though. :hijack:
  10. http://altoona.craigslist.org/cto/1735006846.html I can't even begin to imagine a 5.2 liter, 4 cylinder engine... :rotf:
  11. I'm going to be picking up the bed cap for my MJ soon. It's sitting at my dad's right now under the deck. I'm going to replace the roof vent as well as a couple of the the plastic side windows. The roof vent I should be able to replace with an RV vent. In fact I think the cap didn't originally have a vent, and my dad installed one. The plastic side windows I'll replace with plexiglass. My question for everyone is, what's a good waterproofing sealant to use? I want to make sure I do this right and don't get any leaks.
  12. Currently own 1 MJ. But if I had the money (and could get my wife to agree) I'd buy a second one.
  13. This is a good suggestion. I've never considered this for diagnosing starter problems because usually if I have a starter go bad, I'm in a parking lot somewhere. :wall:
  14. Kyle, Hi from your neighbor in Washington County! One trick I've always used to see if the problem is the starter or not is the following. Get a hammer. Regular framing/drywall hammer will work fine. Jack the truck up/Put the truck up on ramps. Have someone try to start the engine. While they're trying to start the engine, gently tap the starter with the hammer. Just don't beat on it too hard, don't want to damage the starter. If the truck turns over while you're tapping on the starter with a hammer, then your starter needs replaced/rebuilt. If the truck does not turn over while tapping on the starter with a hammer, then I would start troubleshooting a possible electric problem. Make sure the starter is properly connected, then troubleshoot your way from there. The ignition switch should probably be your last resort, just because it's such a pain to disassemble the steering column. Hope this helps! EDIT: By the way, when my starter went out a year back, I had no warning signs. It just stopped working. Luckily I keep a hammer in the truck, just in case.
  15. Awesome explanation! Thanks! ...Genovast...so true.
  16. Something I've always wondered... What exactly are the vents on the outside of a Comanche behind the driver and passenger side windows for? No, I'm not doing anything crazy like getting rid of them. I'm just curious what their function is?
  17. Would the same technique work to replace a non-slider window with a slider window?
  18. Which states have you visited in your MJ? Also, what's the longest trip you've ever taken in your MJ? States I've visited in my MJ: Maryland Pennsylvania Virginia West Virginia Ohio Indiana Illinois Longest trip I've taken in my MJ: Smithsburg, MD to Bloomington, IL and back over two days. A total of ~1,400 miles. :needpics:
  19. I just put '97 Grand Cherokee rims on my '87 MJ, which cost $150. The tires cost about $500 total. Did I just double the value of my MJ? :rotf:
  20. Requested pic. Put the new rims on today.
  21. Installed new rims and tires. Rims are from a 97 Grand Cherokee.
  22. Installed new rims and tires today... The rims are from a 97 Grand Cherokee. Tires are brand new Michelines.
  23. "Forum probems or website ideas" Am I the only one who noticed there's a "probem"? :rotf:
  24. Damn. I'll just stick to working on the engine compartment. :rotf:
  25. Yes you're correct, if you remove the alligator clip it's disabled. Hence why I recommended the circular connector. I have tried opening the hood with the alarm enabled, and the movement/vibrations from opening the hood does trigger the alarm. Haven't tried breaking the glass, and not planning on trying that! The fact of the matter is, if someone wants to steal your entire vehicle, alarm or no alarm, they will take it. Alarms are only deterrents to make your vehicle less attractive to thieves, and help deter people (mostly kids) from screwing with your vehicle, doing stuff like climbing on it or inside. They will not prevent theft. I never keep anything valuable in any of my vehicles. A lot of people disagree with my "backwards thinking", but I actually leave my doors unlocked whenever I go to the store. My reasoning is that if someone wants something in the vehicle bad enough (my cassette player maybe? :rotfl2: ), I'd rather they steal what's inside and not damage the vehicle, than damage the vehicle AND steal what's inside. What's the main reason I installed the alarm? The car finder. Plus it was a gift, so why not? :rotf:
