  1. This is what I’m hoping for. Will a multimeter help me out for diagnosing his issues?
  2. This was something I did bring up to the owner, he did rebuttal with it should affect the engine and not just cyl 6 when unplugging the injector. But again, HO's are new-ish to me, I cant imagine the theory of operation being drastically different from Renix 4.0. Owner could be right about that, You and I could be right about the MAP. I will see this CJ in person this weekend. I did leave out a detail, the engine was swapped with another engine that has this injection set up. Something about the original block being cracked and the head was swapped to the doner engine. Let me ask ya Eagle, since this is HO, how could we check to see if it has any codes? Scan tool or would I be able to rig up some sort of light?
  3. I know, not MJ but I need some help and schooling. Guy local is having some issues with his CJ. It has a Mopar injection kit with the 4.2Litre. I believe these to basically be HO injection systems and not Renix. I know a little bit about HOs, but not enough and I want to help this guy out as theres not many mechanics in the state to get this system running right. So when cold, it runs rough, almost undrivable and owner feels like he is hurting it. Gets warm, little more drivable but still an issue. He had an issue with cylinder 6 injector and had it replaced. Was a little better. Then replaced thermostat, cap, rotor, not sure if the plugs were but he said a basic tune up was performed and it helped run better but not to where the issue has gone away. What sensor could be doing this? 91-92 owners have any thought? Any thoughts or ideas? Maybe any tools or knowledge and literature will help me greatly. @89 MJ, 4.2Litres do not have adjustable valves correct?
  4. I never looked at the new units closely. But after getting really intimate with my XJ's unit, I am seeing allllll sorts of stuff thats wrong, more annoying now that I see them but doesnt mess with functionality. The ground wire for the unit at the sender is usually held in place with a nut. There should be a retainer to hold the top of the pump but I guess that hose is pulling double duty right there. And the fact the pump doesnt sit in a cup like factory but I would guess theres a bushing for the pump to sit in? I dont mean to rip into a sending unit that we asked for for a few years but damn, I hope thats just a picture of the test product and not final.
  5. What all have you done? Maybe there’s a goof along your repairs
  6. What’s insane is it still very much has flex to it. It’s not dry or anything. Just flatter than round and cracking and can be ripped.
  7. Yeah I think the sending unit O-ring was past due. Shouldnt leak gas no more.
  8. I’ve installed mine dry. There’s a gasket I have from Chrysler that has some RTV stuff on it.
  9. Have you crawled underneath to see if you have fluid leaking out of the bell house? The modern makes of the internal slave are garbage and barely last long. But this is why I sought out the 84-86 external slave setup for my 88
  10. Question is, does spinning the cable by hand spin either the gear or the speedometer? If not, cable is broke. If yes, you have a bind of the gear isnt making contact with the spline to be driven.
  11. Ok! After spending a few hours taking a booster out, putting the new one in, taking it out, putting it in again and yadda yadda till it was right I finally have a really damn good braking XJ. Here’s the old and it’s shape Heres the 84-90 compared to the 91 and up If you ignore the protruding push rod, they’re pretty damn close to being the same. Except for one detail. The hole for the brake switch is too small. So I drilled it out. Got the size close to right, minus some welding and dremel work to make it close to the other booster. But I got it, brake lights work, brakes damn well. Even got the rears to lock up after a quick acceleration to 30mph. All in all, it was worth the effort and no more failing booster and hopefully my idle will no longer be at 1500 when driving and starting. Which means I’m gonna have to adjust the ISA again at some point.
  12. No. Some mechanical and suspension parts will.
  13. Thats kick @$$ right there.
  14. 84-01 XJ Cherokee parts will fit so long it’s a 4 door No ZJ or WJ grand Cherokee interior parts will fit at all.
  15. Washers and dryers are your friend for floor metal if your in a financial bind.
  16. I’ll have to look at my parts books. Cause if they’re different, I’m gonna be in a world of fun on my XJ.
  17. He said he had an AMC jacket at one point but can’t find it. Also said there shouldn’t be much else AMC that he has but if he does, he knows who to call.
  18. That’s what got me and my wife too. AMC really wanted to let you know that they care.
  19. This is more what I was thinking actually.
  20. Wait…is this an automatic? If it is maybe we can suspect that the NSS is corroded or dirty inside.
  21. Ok so a service advisor at the dodge dealer I worked at reached out to me and said “hey, I’ve got some of these polishing cloths from American Motors, let me know if your interested.” So I did, went and grabbed them this morning. Man these are so damn cool!
  22. lol. I don’t think it was you. I think i sent two to someone else. A V6 and a I4 tach so we could learn the difference between the two. But that’s good to know for the chip that’s on them.
  23. Even in ‘92 the correct spelling for Comanche still eluded everyone.
  24. There should be a clip that attaches to the back side of that collar if it’s the one in the cluster. I have a loose indicator that I can snap a pic of later to show ya.
