You can take out your tappets and see how clean they are while you have the head off. Otherwise you have all the main bases covered for the job.

Chunk, A 1984 XJ

Well the PO swapped it out. I’ve just never seen one lol. I think this XJ is really really base when it started. But yeah that’s why I plan to move to TBI. I don’t like how the carb feels in terms of power as with response in throttle but the Renix I’m much more familiar with and is like windows XP of the Jeep world lol. -

Learned that the PO went down to an AMC dealer back in the day and bought a remote mirror kit to replace the mirror delete on the pass side. Pretty cool. Also bought interior paint but sadly it has no pressure to spray so I can’t do much but the interior is almond. Also cleaned up the horn button. Horn button doesn’t have the horn logo on it which is probably unique to the early years. -

Interesting. Also found a few things I have never seen before: cigar lighter delete plate. Never seen one before. I think the PO fussed with the carb wayyyyy too much. He told me he went from the factory one barrel to a new OEM carb to a two barrel holly carb. I am finding wayyy too many vac hoses that should go back to autozone and other misc parts. So far most the interior is there. I’ll have to make a couple tour videos later once I get him cleaned up and done. I still need to sit down and do the window. -

Thanks. It does appear that not only those are missing but the top shoulder belts for the back are just mere lap belts lol. Lol another reason why TBI is in the future. -

More pics will come as Will a few small vids. I have one right now on my phone of the engine running. After the engine warms up and drives it acts like a 500 rpm idle which is odd and the cluster might be off on its readings. More will come tomorrow. -

Battery replaced. Fired right up after a couple key turns lol. Everything electronically works and the waggy tails are gorgeous. Next is to do the almighty headlight harness upgrade, replace a ground cable and kinda just give him general maintenance -

It just might be dealer. But yes I have plans to clean it up at some point. It really does! Sad news is floor is more rusted than I saw before. Good news is AMC is full of cherokees with solid floors so I’m not worried there. Put on some NOS XJW tail lamps, courtesy lights, will put on black Laredo molding and one of the replacement marchal lamps I bought mysteriously broke between its arrival and my arrival so I feel like Cameron with his dads Ferrari from Ferris Bueller. Learned that 84 is definitely weird. Doesn’t have a sentinel headlamp plug. Only thing that pisses me off about this whole XJ is the sound system. So I have plans to undo a lot of that and make it all look correct. -

Man this thing is a blast from the past and an interesting one too. A lot of 84 oddities like interior pieces and underhood components. Right now I’m working on getting a replacement battery. Group 34 will not fit with the current set up. This one will really irk @Minuit This will get rectified at some point unless 84 condenser is weird like that but I don’t like that. Of the engine bay. Pretty neat. If there’s anything y’all want to see let me know. I got lots of stuff to do and add. I’ll take a pic of the NOS stockpile I got for him. -
I have been to about 20 including AK, all the bottom southern states, TN, OR, WA, VI, MD(D.C.), ID, NV, and UT. I just need to venture more north lol. Trust me I would lovvvvve to have the XJ here than just sitting up there where it could become a potential pile of rust. I think I’ll buy a car cover for it just to keep the moisture off of the panels. That being said I have plans to have it here within a year.

Ill think about that lift. How high of a lift is it?
-
Will do. Think the Waggy we are stipping has an auto trans.
-
I have a goal to travel all 50 so I will make it up that way at some point.
-
No I'm flying both ways. Oh how odd mind if I tag along lol.

Owners Manual and Service Manuals
eaglescout526 replied to Manche' Boi's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The Factory Service Manual is the best go to service manual we all recommend and try to use. I believe there is one for download here on the club. As for the owners manual, might check ebay and get lucky or someone on here might have a few spares. Don't think anyone has a PDF of it. -
Whats wrong with the blue one?
