Well it’s more of a hose that the intake uses to take in the fuel fumes from the tank that go into the canister. It doesn’t entirely affect anything but it does help get some extra fuel fumes.

So the one tube you’re holding by the firewall goes to the charcoal canister for the gas tank. The other one went to the air box lid. I can post a pic of my engine bay as it is stock as a stock Renix 2.5L can be if you need a reference.

What’s wrong with the one you have? Is it reading low, reading inaccurately or not at all?

Yes you can swap the speedo with no issues as long as the housing is the same.

I mean it’s sounds tedious but you should be able to just swap parts around. I can’t imagine Chrysler having a kit that is completely different than what the factory got. I know the major difference between factory and dealer is the liquid hose has a muffler on it.

I’m very curious about such a kit if Chrysler even offered one. Anywho, I’ll do a bit of digging in the parts catalog and throw a part number your way for the expansion valve. Should give you a good lead.

It looks very similar to other dealer installed set ups I’ve seen. But curious since it is an HO. Didn’t think Chrysler offered a kit for the HO….it is the 92 one in your signature correct? Yes, any valve ought to work, I just hope there’s one out there that will line up with the lines as the modern ones are the aluminum block.

That kinda looks like it would’ve been a dealer installed set up. The dealer kits used that expansion valve. You should be able to use a standard valve vs that one as it is for R12 probably unless it was converted at some point.

Just needs a little love but that’s cordovan. To find the brighter garnet red, it’s gotta be an 86 or early 87 MJ. Gotta love he fun color options we got robbed of for more sophisticated 90’s options.

Yeah grey, cordovan and tan were the colors of interior. Chrysler really sucked in the 90’s.

On the XJs, it is the other way around. Members on here have found more tan interior XJ's than grey. We think Grey was a common MJ interior while tan wa s acommon XJ interior. If youre seeing lots of black interior(course you could be referring to other MJs), you should be snagging those parts. Everyone wants to convert to factory black without painting their parts. Black was only available for 86-87 MJs and XJs so its a harder color to find aside from the early 84-85 XJ interiors.

Yeah it could be. Know any history on the truck? Like has the fuel system ever been serviced?

Absolutely. Or delete the ballast all together honestly. It’s a “fix” that Chrysler did to “quiet” down the fuel pump. It was more applicable to the XJ than the MJ but they are prone to breaking and overheating which leads to failure. Bypass it and drive it around all day.

So what’s happening is when the key is switched to the on but not start position, the fuel pump ballast is bypassed to prime the fuel rail. If this is correct, your engine should be cranking, fire a couple pistons and stop because now the fuel pump ballast is no longer being bypassed during crank. If the ballast hasn’t been bypassed or replaced, your truck won’t run longer than a second.
