    I swear I remember seeing a few things say “ABS” like the clock delete panel. But like AZ Jeff said, there aren’t and won’t be those plastic codes.

    Lol. Mine is usually about 30psi at idle during the heat. I’ll have to check now as I never really payed attention when I get home.

    55psi at cold is healthy. That’s what mine runs at.

    Aren’t they all ABS pieces? I know some parts will say what plastic it is and part number and production dates and what not.

    Due to the nature in how I built my computer and given windows 10 being an unstable OS, my computer is down currently. I’ve been working on it since Monday to get it to read the OS from a BSOD. Currently looking at the boot screen right now with the little dots spinning in a circle(progress). I’ll update this thread as I get back up and running.

    I think only HO got that style of cluster. I think all AMC did was give us idiot lights with column shift.

    No problem. I don’t think anyone has HO swapped an auto Renix MJ

    It should bolt up with no issues at all. Butttttt you might run into issues with the 86 being an auto and the 2.5L being an HO era engine. Are you swapping the engine and engine management over or are you converting it to Renix?

    It varies. If it’s a late model 87 it probably will be closer to 88. If it’s an early it probably will be closer to that of 86 and prior. 87 is that middle ground year where AMC was doing changes and improvements to both the XJ and MJ. I probably need to update the top post to reflect this discretion.

    Yeah this could be an issue. You can always swap to the Renix compressor but you might run into the issue of hose fitment like stroker said. Chrysler was pretty non standard with AC parts in HO years. Like 94 could have one hose set and then 95 can have completely different hoses.

    Sounds like something is wrong with wiring somewhere. I recommend checking some fuses just to rule those out and the ground upgrade before we condemn the clock.

    It’s possible that Chrysler made only a YJ AC kit for the YJ and was made to work on the XJ and MJ as well. The early HO years we’re pretty uniform across the board.

    Wait. The display dims? It’s supposed dim when you pull the headlamp switch so it’s not overpowering bright. Course if you know you’re way around the wiring harness you could remove the pin that dims the VFD and it would be normal level brightness all the time.

    If you get the 84-96 glass, yes it’s the same and you’ll be able to use the trim.

    Yeah, XJ and MJ cab forward interchange. 97-01 XJ has a rubber gasket as the trim. 84-96 is just the glass.

    I’ve only heard of a quartz clock failing once and it grew brighter in the display until it just stopped working.

    I have a factory clock or a few on stand by if you want to go that route. Nickintime makes a REM clock combo unit.

    I’ll have to check the service library and see. And I’ll check my service bulletin books too. Didn’t think to try any of those. Whitaker and I spoke behind the scenes about this and I told him to see if anyone out there as run into this issue. Seems like not a lot of us have. But then again, how many MJs are on here with tow mirrors?

    No problem. That’s why we’re here for. Hopefully the mech gauge will reveal a healthy engine.

    Fair enough. But yes there are two different parts available. The switch, which you currently have and the sensor. The switch is for the idiot light cluster and the sensor is for the gauge. It probably didn’t help that the PO didn’t get the right part in the first place which sent you on this mad tangent. Here is what the correct sensor should look like: I kinda forgot we had one on hand here at work.

    56026782AC is the oil sensor part number. Still available from Chrysler. It sounds like the PO probably thought it would swap over and all would work. Course that asks a new question. Does the water temp reflect any data or does it just stay at the first bar?

    What he hasn’t mentioned about this kit yet is it’s one of those dealers choice kits from the parts and service division of American Motors. In the middle of the package is that logo. It’s a really neat kit. I don’t think they’re Marchals though.

    Yup!!! That’s the switch. As stated you need the sensor which can be had from Chrysler or aftermarket I’ll get a part number here in a minute for you.
