Yes, but have you tried finding an izsuzu Pup diesel? MWC 4 Life yo., There's a Pup sitting for sale for the last year and a half, about 10 miles from me. Frame is rotted through, and the guy knows whoever buys it is buying it for the motor. I have tried to get it twice, but he wants too much money. Buy the trooper, you can crash here on the first nite on your way out to get it. We'll go bug Rafferty. I finally read the auction. Its got a rod through the block.

I was looking at a '00 F-350 Powerstroke to tow with, and the salesman tried telling me a '91 Chevy 1500 single cab shortbed 305 would do just as well... I second the 3/4 ton, especially since alot of Chevrolets out there are 2500HDs, which are beef. Hmmm... when I was at the Ford dealer, we looked at the F-350 diesel, with the tow package the sales thief said the tow rating was 19k. Another sales idiot from the same dealer told us it was 12.5k another day.

I'm pretty sure the S-10 Blazer came with the 700R4 behind the 2.8, once the 2.8 got FI.
-
Now you're getting the idea... My F-150 has a curb weight of 6250 lbs, and a 132" wheelbase. And the factory tow package, containing larger than normal brakes. a rear sway bar, and 3.55 gears. It will EAISLY tow 4k without any excitement or braking problems. But this is on a dump trailer, with electric brakes and a brake controller in the cab. The rear sway bar on the truck make a HUGE difference.

So, what is "T" in the 8th slot? The VIN decoder seems to skip that value. Laredo model with a GVWR of 4001-5000 lbs.

Nate, its damn obvious that you are 'MWC'. Those things are complete pieces of stuff. Its 'technical' name was Dasher. The thing couldn't get out of its own way. The motor was underpowered for a Rabbit, now lets get the bright idea of stuffing it into a vehicle one and a half times the wait. Not to mention the fact the 'frame' liked to rust in half right behind the cab. The Isuzu Pup diesel p/u was a better truck.

Enough engine wasn't the problem with the MJ. I flat towed an XJ with my wife's 5.2l ZJ a couple of weeks ago. It only took 7 miles for her to decide, I get a 'newer' truck and trailer before wheeling season next year. Once again, its not the engine power. It felt like we were about two or three freeway speed 'wiggles' away from serious problems. Braking needed to be planned out. Our ZJ has the factory 'towing' package on it.

I just got back from the trailer dealer. An 18 foot long, 102" wide steel deck, 10k load trailer weighs 2275 lbs. Without a winch, a tool box, spare tire, etc... That's over half the weight of the MJ.

Removing siezed wheels.

I don't know what this says, if I agree with the guy from VA... But the lugs loose/drive around method is how I get aluminum rims off. I have always seemed to bend something important when trying to 'carefully' hammer off a aluminum rim. -
You want to tow a YJ on a flat bed behind your MJ????? Holy $#!& dangerous, batman!!!!!!!!!!(when did we get word censors?) Yea, the longer wheelbase of the MJ helps, but the brakes are barely strong enough to stop the MJ without the extra weight. Second, the tow rating is a maximum of 5k lbs, with the tow package. A YJ on a flat is more than that. A trail ready YJ probably tips the scale at close to 4k, add a 1600-1800 lbs flatbed. Your already looking at 5500 - 6000 lbs. Flat towing, while safer would still be an adventure without a brake toad installed in the YJ. The toad is a device that either operates the brakes on the YJ via a radio control, or a regular wire like trailer light hook-up.

I've been thinking... very dangerous ,usually. But the 700r4 came behind this motor in some years. Which is available in a 4x4 configuration. Yea, its heavy. But its plenty strong. And I'll bet Advance Adapters either has, or can make one for you.

Physically its close to the same size as the 3.4l Camaro motor But it uses a different transmission and require that swapped also.

Q-tec $399, plus $99.95 shipping. Same exact picture in fact.

They have the 'Dixie Chopper/Sta-Bil Gas Treatment' nationals about 3 miles from my house. I really think its just a dig at Woods though. Woods HQ is in our county seat.
-
Are you in Glendale,AZ? My SIL used to live on Comanche, and the cross of Cherokee was about 3 blocks away.
-
You can get the AEV conversion verison of that now.
-
Are they in Addison,IL or Arlington Heights? If they are I remember going there with a buddy to get parts for his Camaro. A very not nice neighborhood. Place almost felt like a chop shop. You ordered in this little bitty office made of plywood and spit. Then went around back, and you kinda waited by the back door, and they brought the parts out the side of the the building. It was cash and carry only.

Okay, here is the vin run down. 1- US built J - Jeep T -truck M - 4.0l L - 5-spd manual tranny, part time t-case 65 - LWB 4-whl drive 1 - Not sure, FSM shows only letters (for the trim package) X - Check digit H - Model year 1987 T - Built in Toledo 049647 - serial number Edit- Got to thinking about that '1'. On a hunch I checked the vin on my 88 MJ. I have the same '1'. Mine is a custom ordered Metric Tonne, any chance you know whether yours was a custom order also??? The "1" in the 8th position designates base model. Already came upon that conclusion. But a base Metric Tonne got an 'F' in position 8, which is what is confusing. Mine is base trim, but has the Metric Tonne package on it. I've got all the external markers, the different springs, and the D44 but its got a 1 in the eighth position.

Comanche Pioneer std. rear 4001 -5000lbs GVWR range. Or 87 LWB Pioneer, 4x4, 4.0l, 5-spd, part-time t-case, with a std. rear end. Pretty close?

Electronic version of the FSM's?

A mudflap ticket is whole different animal, compared to copyright infringement. -
Maybe 1 there means base model. The FSM doesn't list base model either. Mine is a 'base model' but it had certain things ordered on.

Off Exit 90 something on the PA TPK. It is about 3.5 hrs from Erie. Are you on Erie Jeep People .com?? I am, but we live in IL. My mom's family is thick around Harborcreek. We have to attend the family reunion and bring her home. But fuel prices are WAY TOO high for me to convince the wife to bring the wheeling Jeep out with us.

The 258(4.2) lasted until 91 with a carb even. But the YJ and SJ never received the Renix 4.0l, or the AW-4. The YJ did receive the Peugeot for a couple of years. Ironically, this is why the 87 YJ is the least desirable of the YJ's. 258, Peugeot, and a NP 207 t-case. The only year this combo was available.
