  1. I've been very happy with my Goodyear Duratracs.
  2. I got a '97 XJ 2wd with high miles and it still cost me $1k (power everything, but seats). It had been wrecked, but has a bunch of new parts. I haven't seen any others for under twice that much, so I felt like I was getting a good deal. I guess the prices are just higher in my area. I'm moving everything to my MJ and I'll part out the rest, but I honestly don't expect to make my money back on XJ parts alone (and it will probably be close if I include the MJ parts I'm selling). Good luck.
  3. I got one through Advance Auto. I actually took it back because my 2wd cable was long enough. Mine is a '90 ax-15 4wd, but doesn't have cruise control. I know the cables are different, so maybe that's why you haven't been able to find one.
  4. I've got long MJ visors (the ones I paid to have recovered), so I'd like to reuse them if possible. The RKE module won't fit between them. Does it need to be up high at the windshield, or can it be somewhere else in the cab?
  5. Crap. I was afraid of that. I've already had my headliner recovered and my visors recovered in the Comanche and now they won't work.
  6. Just out of curiosity, where is the RKE module? I just bought a '97 that I'm going to swap over to my Comanche.
  7. Took me a second. Red ring of death, right?
  8. I have a feeling if you did have this person, you might not be in this situation. for breaking the law. Next time, keep it between the ditches. Good luck on whatever you're going to do with it.
  9. The Comanche engine is only going to be stored long enough for me to sell it. I'm hoping I can find someone with a 4 cyl that wants a 4.0; cause I'll have everything they need for the conversion (wiring harness, motor, gauges, transmission and whatever else they want). I won't be storing the XJ motor long either. I'll probably just pull it out long enough to get everything I need and then move it all over to the Comanche.
  10. I picked up a '97 XJ and I'm planning on swapping the engines. I don't plan on doing much work on the new engine at all (and I'm obviously not going to be doing any work to the old motor). When they're out of the vehicle, do they need to be stored on an engine stand or can they be stored on the ground, or the bed of the truck etc.? I didn't know if the weight was too much for the oil pan or what not. I already have to buy an engine hoist and didn't know if I could save $100 by not buying an engine stand.
  11. I bought it its own Jeep (parts vehicle):
  12. Well, I talked the guy down a bit and brought home the '97 XJ today. I feel like I just got this truck together and now I'm going to tear it all back apart, but that's the fun of owning a Jeep right? It was wrecked (hence the new red grill). I've got a matching red bumper in the back to go along with it. I'm excited; it feels like such an upgrade with luxury features like power windows, locks, mirrors, cruise control, keyless entry, etc. Now I just need to make some space in the garage so I can get started.
  13. I used the e-brake cables that came on the Comanche and the brakes that came on the axle. Mine is a 2001; new perches and I was good to go.
  14. You have foglight, defrost and rear wiper switches from a XJ, but no fogs, defrost or rear wiper.
  15. I know this is an old thread, but what tank is that from? How did you address the XJ pump/tank issue? I'm considering doing the swap on mine. Thanks.
  16. Well from what everyone has said, it sounds like if I move forward (with this specific truck) the easiest option would be to find a 4wd AW4. If I ever decide to swap, then I can just hang on to my current parts and look for a 5 speed harness, computer and flywheel.
  17. Any progress on the swap?
  18. I've got a chance to pick up a '97 XJ auto 2wd for $1,300. I'm thinking about doing the full interior and drivetrain swap. I'd have to pick up a 4wd aw4 and probably lop off an inch or so off of my brand new rear drive shaft. I'm not worried about the time investment, but do you think $1,300 is worth it? The XJ is a running daily driver right now and I figure I could probably part out what I don't use and sell my current 4.0 and AX-15s (2wd and 4wd) and make a good chunk of that money back. Thoughts or opinions?
  19. Ouch. Sounds like I'd be better off finding a 4wd auto trans. Is the wiring harness different for 4wd vs. 2wd?
  20. Well, that doesn't sound too bad. I'm really excited about this. My biggest concern is the whole fuel tank/sender/pump issue and the fact that I won't be able to drive it for months on end. I just got done with my current interior upgrade, rust repair and 4wd swap. There are a couple companies on ebay that will program and send you one as long as you have a VIN to give them. Otherwise www.car-part.com for a junkyard search.
  21. So if I get a manual ECU and do the wiring splicing will I get any CELs? Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're saying I would splice the wiring for the neutral safety switch on the auto harness to the clutch safety switch on my current setup? If that's all there is to it, then it would be a lot easier than having to buy a whole new harness. A new ECU should be $100-$200 and easily found, but I think the harness might be more $ and a lot harder to find.
  22. I'm swapping everything (engine, dash, wiring, etc.). The only thing I want to keep is my current transmission (5spd 4wd) because the one in the XJ is a 2wd automatic.
  23. Outer Banks (NC)
  24. Anybody? If I have to swap the computer or wiring harness, would it just have to be from a 5 spd XJ (2wd or 4wd) or would it need to be specifically from a 5spd 4wd truck? I kinda need to know so I can move forward with this specific XJ or keep looking. This running example is $1300 and all the other ones I can find are $3k and up. I haven't been able to find a wrecked one that wasn't a front end collision.
