RockMJ's 88' Resto-Mod Build Journal
Rymanrph replied to RockMJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
When I scrolled down, I expected your GTI to be orange. I've never owned a GTI, but I always kinda liked them. I may have bought one if I wasn't so tired of FWD. It sounds like you have big plans for the next MJ. Care to elaborate? -
Sometimes I think people threaten to scrap something so that on the fence buyers will commit. Pretty lousy tactic if you ask me though.

I have square lights on my truck, but they aren't very good lights. I'd like the replace them with two of these: http://www.oraclelights.com/automotive-lighting-products/ORACLE-LED-Off-Road-Lights/8-24W-LED-Light-Bar---Part--5721

so....... how'd it go?

I am a big fan of pearls, so that would be my vote. Maybe something like Lexus' Starfire Pearl.

How long has it been now? I've waited quite a while for paint jobs, but I think yours has passed any length I've ever had to wait.

I enjoy looking through everyone's Comanche build threads as much as the next guy, but I'm sure many of you have other projects that you work on as well that may or may not be Jeep related. I'd love to see what else you guys waste spend your money on. To start, here is a link to my '05 SRT-4 thread from back in the day. I was still relatively new to working on vehicles at the time, but it was a ton of fun and I regret getting rid of it. The thread starts out in the middle of my ownership after it was totaled. http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f41/my-re-build-thread-448014/

'68 Plymouth Barracuda Notchback
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
I'm actually selling a Jeep to afford this (a '97 TJ), but its not worth that much. It will hopefully get new paint one day, but I'll probably spend as much on that as I did buying the car. Well, maybe not; I guess it just depends on how much rot is in the rockers. The interior isn't so bad. The carpet is really good and the seat covers look brand new. The door panels need a little work and the dash needs a lot of work, but the headliner is good. It developed a tick on the way home, so I put in some Marvel Mystery Oil and let it run for about an hour and then changed the oil. Its not completely gone, but it sounds a ton better. The condition of the car reminds me a lot of my Comanche when I got it except that the Comanche was all original. With this car, I have to figure out someone else's work. -
'68 Plymouth Barracuda Notchback

The pictures make it look better than it is. It has disc brakes up front but something isn't right with them. The dash is kinda trashed. The previous PO hit something on the driver side rear quarter. The heat doesn't work and its got some rot in the rockers and several small holes in the trunk. But I love it and can't wait to work on it. -
After finishing the '97 conversion and upgrading the suspension I'm at a somewhat "done" position on the Comanche. It will never be done, but I'm at a good pause point for now. So, I needed something else to work on. Here is the next project, a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda: Its got a 360 backed by a 727 transmission and a 8.75 rear end. Parts of the interior are in great shape, but it needs a paint job and some TLC here and there, but I think its going to be a fun project.

When I'm selling stuff, the question that just sets me off immediately is, "what's the lowest you'll take?" I hate that question; I always respond with, "what's the most you'll pay?" I'm trying to make money, so I'm not going to immediately drop to my lowest acceptable price because you're too lazy to negotiate. I list a price; either pay it or make me an offer. OK, rant over.

Kj...limited Liberty Renegade On 32S
Rymanrph replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Are you sure it isn't Cactus Green like this one? Cause that is a factory color with factory wheels. -
I LOVE daylight savings time. I can't wait. I'd rather drive to work in the dark and have that extra hour of light when I get home.

My 97 donor was damaged when I bought it. The PO bought all new front end parts and an airbag to replace the blown one. The Jeep originally had cruise and while this new bag appeared to be the same shape, it did not fit. I had to buy another one from a Jeep with cruise. I still have the other one. $150 for all that is a good deal around here. Most places would want that much just for the bag and clock spring.

Nice start Eric. Are you going to paint it yourself or are you just taking care of the prep? -
1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
The flat flares simply do not fit in the back. They are not made for the Comanche. No matter what adjustments I made, they didn't look right; there was always a gap above the character line and I wasn't happy with it. The cut out flares are designed to fit the Comanche, so the fit is much much better. -
Mike, the outlet is cool, but how is it connected/wired?

Staying red?

I'm curious. What do you need so many sets for?
-
Eric should be well on his way back to Texas. We came back through Charlotte about 8:00 last night. His bag didn't make the flight, so he had to go back to the airport to pick it up before he could start the trip back home. I was only able to snap one decent picture, but he is totally excited. Other than a leaky rear main seal, he should have a trouble free return.

I haven't seen a tan interior second gen swap yet. My '88 was white with tan interior and it was a good combo. Looking forward to seeing this.

1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
One thing I have noticed recently is that my A pillar panels look "old" compared to the rest of my interior. I used my original MJ ones because they fit and I didn't really realize the '97 ones were that different. I know the XJ panels don't have screws to hold them on, so what is used instead? -
1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well, they're in Poland, so instead of shipping them my wheel and then paying to ship it back, they just bought one locally (that I paid for). They would have sent it to me, but I didn't want to pay shipping on it, so I told them just to keep it. I could have gotten a wheel at the local Pull a Part for about $10, but then the shipping there and back would have been more than I paid for the wheel they purchased. -
Hp Upgrades Without An Engine Swap
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Really, I don't want to lose any fuel economy, but if there is something that could help, it would certainly be worth it. My engine may be tired, but it really hasn't given me any problems. Other than a compression test, are there other ways to check the health of the motor?
