A picture would help clear up the confusion, I'm thinking it's the idle solinoid that is unplugged

That connector is stock, but it is for the tag lights and does not connect to gather, no a bad nss will not cause a short in the park lamps. But make sure that connector you are holding isn't plugged into each other

If you can set up a new ground from the wiper motor

It might be easier with the flywheel off, that way your not fighting two holes

The knob connects to a switch with a connector on it, it is behind the dash and hard to see

Check the headlight switch, and add eaglescout526 stated that fuse controls the park lights and the dash lights
