1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)
-600JeepMJ replied to Rymanrph's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Good call. I checked last night and no, I don't have one, but I can't see any evidence of one ever being there. I guess I'll have to figure something out there. What does it look like? Gojeep has a great short write up on making a Heat Shields. It is near the bottom of the page. :typing: http://jeep-xj.info/Exterior.htm -

That may not work. At most parts stores the guy behind the counter is just a computer key puncher. And only know were the part is on the shelf becoust the computer told them. They may have no clue how to put the parts together if the computer does not show it. -
Advice on buying Comanche
-600JeepMJ replied to centralnc's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What are your plans for the MJ? If you are going to restore it go for the nicer one. If you are going to turn it in to a high stepping off road trail stomping, go for the cheaper one and Mod the heck out of it -
 Welcome to the MJ madness  Nice MJ.

Advice on buying Comanche
-600JeepMJ replied to centralnc's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: If you can go with cash in hand and try to talk him down a much as you can after you note all the stuff you can find wrong that was pointed out to look for. :smart: Trolling around here is encouraged bunch because there is a lot to learn and see about what you can do with a MJ :typing: If you do not get it there will be others out there. we are a very friendly group and repost info about other MJ we find for sale. I got my 90 MJ for $600, but it had a lot of problems that I was able to fix by finding the info here :clapping: -

Uncle Sam sent me out to Charleston SC for a few months. while I was there I found a 91 GMC s-15 4X4 for $900.oo after diving it around for some time and wanting a stronger 4X4 i started looking for a jeep. so when uncle Sam sent me back out to Charleston SC for a second time I found a 86 XJ on Ebay for $450.oo. while looking on the web for info on how to fix/mod the XJ I leaned about the MJ and started to look for one. Four years later I finally found A 90 MJ for $600.oo no sooner then I get it home and my dad tells that my step brother has a 86 MJ sitting in the drive way that he can not fix. so $200.oo and long weekend 600 mile trip I now have five jeeps siting in front of my house.

 another idea is to get some two inch copper tubing and a few elbow fittings. My dad did this one time when his hose blew and and he was not able to get a replacement. it is still in his truck now. double clamped four inch rubber tubbing at both end to allow for flexing. still going strong with no leaks for over six years now

what are you going to be using it for? target shooting or hunting then the baynet cut or stock is what you are looking for. kicking down doors shooting at bad guys or robbing banks then the pistol grip will work best. just hanging it on the wall, stock or what ever looks best with your home decor. the fit depends on were the sks was made, but for the most part tapco stock fit very well
