  1. Why not just use power steering fluid? That's what it calls for, that's what I use.
  2. They are just stock Omix Ada ones. They are within a half inch of touching the pad so it bottoms out but they are super squishy so it cushions it quite well and since they are so close to touching, it's not a sudden jolt either. Once I figure out what to do with the steering stabilizer and trackbar to get them away from the oil pan, I will adjust it so it has more travel up front.
  3. you mean it's not normal to carry a recip in your pocket?
  4. Depends.. Jeep related, a 10mm wrench. In reality, probably a crescent wrench. Otherwise, a recipe saw. Reason being is I can cut everything around the part I need and haul it home to use the correct tool. Or is that cheating?
  5. And gone. Been looking for a set, but don't want to spend nearly that much. I'm ok with leaks in the already leaky truck, I'd just rather have the ability to get as much air into the cab as possible on those hot days.
  6. This^^^^ I did the XJ 8.25 on my blue truck and just recently did the Liberty 8.25 on my red truck. Definitely the way to go, as Pete said, they are plentiful right now, it comes with disks and only about an inch or so wider than the XJ/MJ axle. Grab a prop valve from a Grand Cherokee with rear disks and you are set.
  7. That's partially why I didn't leave it offset. I'm not that kinda "cool". I like to outrun that kind of "cool" off a stoplight with a 30 year old truck.
  8. I finally got the airdam installed. I drilled holes in the bumper and put in rivnuts so it's easyish to get on or off. Looks much better in person, pictures don't do it justice. I ended up shaving the license plate bracket down as much as possible and sandwiching it between the airdam and bumper. I played around with positioning of it and for some reason I kind of like it offset, makes it look a little cleaner I think, but I opted to leave it centered for now. I also talked to my brother-in-law today and we may be going in together on a paint sprayer setup to paint a 1944 Farmall M that we have been rebuilding which means the truck may get painted sooner than later! I've also started to look at wiring for the FIC6. Hopefully major progress can be made on it this summer, especially if the government decides to give us more money.
  9. This^^ The axle will swing forward some once it's at ride height so keep that in mind. It does look a little too far back in your picture though, don't think it will swing that far forward.
  10. I have found that not inserting the nozzle fully seems to help with this problem, put it about 3/4 of the way in and I rarely have the issue anymore. I did it the way you describe for quite a long time, kind of annoying.
  11. The u-bolts for a C8.25 still fit into the slots on the factory spring plate. I've done it with both styles of spring plate and it fit both of them fine. Put the u-bolt into the plate outside the truck the first time and it will make it easier to install once it's in the truck, it's tight the first time the u-bolt goes into the plate but it does fit without modification.
  12. You just need a section of small hose long enough to reach the bottom of the tank and into a gas can. Then place a larger section of hose into the fuel filler area, doesn't have to go into the actual nozzle hole, just where the cap covers up. Then use a rag to tightly plug any extra airgap around the filler next and take a deep breath and blow real hard for a couple seconds into the larger hose, may take a couple times but your siphon will start. Compressed air works even better, just need enough pressure to get the fuel moving. Or get a cheap hand operated siphon pump from Walmart or the auto parts store. To stop the siphon, pull the hose up out of the gas in the tank. With a full tank you will need to fill a gas can a couple times, put the extra gas into another vehicle, I'm sure you could find a friend who would be willing to help you dispose of the gas.
  13. Ah if it's melting then yeah you've got a bigger problem, possibly a short somewhere as JMO413 said. Send us more info on your truck and we can go from there.
  14. Define a "big spark." A spark when you were putting the cables on the battery? I wouldn't be too concerned as that happens sometimes, same way it does when you put on jumper cables. Or did the spark originate from somewhere other than the battery terminal?
  15. From the ones I'm seeing and as Gogmorgo pointed out, prior to 1990, they were different per side, the inlet for the brake line was offset to one side rather than over/under. After 1990 they are universal like the picture I posted. 1990 is the oldest I've done which is why I was confused. Just one of those other subtle year difference things on these Jeeps that we don't all know about. My bad causing the confusion on it but definitely a good thing to learn! As for the OP, being that he has an 89, it would be different per side as you guys said.
  16. Ah yes I see that now as well. I've only ever seen this style where it fits both sides. Could the older ones be replaced by the new style so it's universal or is the mounting entirely different as well?
  17. For calipers yes but the wheel cylinders are symmetrical side to side, bleeder on top, brake line underneath.
  18. They are the same for both sides aren't they? They always just say the fitment is in the rear, I've never seen them as two different part numbers and have never noticed any differences in them.
  19. Hockey stick should cover the small ones, unless your truck has the rear XJ rests (pointy corners vs rounded), not sure if those will cover. Are the inner mounts loose or the screw bottoming out before tight?
  20. Dang that sucks. Mighty nice looking cab light there tho. I imagine you are parting this truck out?
  21. What's up with the roof?? Believe it or not, I've seen worse rust... Come to Iowa.
  22. All you need is a brake cylinder. They are really cheap and available at any auto parts store.
  23. Ah didn't read into it that far. Hopefully they come off backorder soon. I haven't watched any of his videos in a while, wonder if it's an issue with overseas vendors right now or if he just has too many orders to do final assembly himself anymore.
