  1. I did want to question the statement above in regards to not using a steering stabilizer on the big 2500. Wouldn't bump steer be more common in a lighter vehicle, thus requiring a steering stabilizer if it's lighter? The shear weight of a 2500 with a Cummins should be enough to eliminate bump steer almost entirely but would have worse side affect when bump steer does occur without the stabilizer (ie. If a bump were big enough to cause bumpsteer in that big of a truck, the higher weight of the truck being thrown back and forth would be a huge issue in keeping control of the truck). With the lightweight chassis of the MJ, bump steer would be a bugger problem as it would occur wayyyy more often but wouldn't cause loss of control as easily due to the lighter weight of the vehicle. Just thinking about the physics of this argument it doesn't make sense to me, I COULD BE ENTIRELY WRONG but I don't think it works that way. You can get away without a steering stabilizer in a bigger truck because it would take a very large bump to cause bump steer (that you would see and avoid), whereas a smaller truck like the MJ absolutely should have a steering stabilizer because even small, unnoticeable bumps cause bump steer. I'm sure we can all agree that bump steer is bad no matter what. But couldn't bump steer start the oscillation that turns into the death wobble? If so, then it would make sense to run a steering stabilizer to eliminate bump steer all together. Still there are other issues that are probably present that are the true root of the death wobble that need fixed as well, but a good steering stabilizer seems like a must in these small trucks to me.
  2. Lol I'm assuming you're using that as a verb? Without opinions I don't think some of these threads would go anywhere or have nearly as much useful info, but then again there is a difference between voicing your opinion and forcing it down everyone's throat...

    Sacrilege

Don't get me wrong, it puts the Comanche name to shame but honestly it's not a bad price for what it is. I'm slightly confused, is this the official Chrysler concept vehicle or did someone recreate it? I can't imagine Chrysler selling off a concept vehicle.
  4. Alright thanks for checking!
  5. I had the same issue on my 98 XJ. The easiest solution I came across seemed to be pulling the driveshaft and dropping the crossmember then lowering the rear of the trans down some. This gives you access to take the plug out from underneath (just pay attention to the wires and cables so you don't break anything). I never ended up replacing the rear one because it stopped leaking. No idea how or why but I'm not complaining. I will say that I used the regular freeze plug kit from O'Reillys on the side of the block many years ago and they are still holding up strong so I'd have to recommend that kit.
  6. I've been looking for an opportunity but now that its starting to snow around here, the truck won't see roads again until mid to late spring when the salt is gone...
  7. Yeah I'll have to look into it. It would make sense to be some kind of steam. I don't remember it condensating on my hand or anything when I was first investigating it. Did it condensate for you?
  8. I'll check that too. See whats weird is that even if I don't turn the blower on at all it still smokes after a while.
  9. What about this orange?
  10. If it does happen to be a crush sleeve, use a punch to mark its location and count how many threads are sticking out and count how many revolutions to remove the nut. When reassembling, don't go any further than you took it off or you will crush the sleeve more and cause improper preload. With a new yoke you will probably not need to tighten it quite as far so just pay attention to how it feels tightening, you can tell when you are starting to crush the sleeve. When I replaced the pinion seal on my Dana 30, I tightened to just about 1/4 turn away from my mark and stopped because I could feel the crush sleeve.
  11. That is pretty sweet! Was kind of hoping it would be the pizza planet truck when they revealed it.

  13. Yeah I do but I'm worried about the noise in the blower motor. I'm thinking there may be crap in the hvac box. I'll pull the resistor and blower motor out when I get time and look around for anything.
  14. In that case I should probably pull everything apart.... It's just weird it doesn't smell like anything.
  15. On my 97+ truck I recently noticed smoke coming out of the Defrost vents on the dash (side vents only) after driving it for a little while. It doesn't smell like anything at all, doesn't seem to matter if it is hot or cold outside, and is so little smoke that you can barely see it when the truck isn't moving. It doesn't get any worse as time goes on either, it stays the same amount of smoke the entire time. My first thought was a leaking heater core but I have dry floors and even the drain valve in the engine bay never seems to be wet. The blower motor is a little noisier than my XJ but it seems to work just fine. Any ideas? Edit: forgot to mention that when the blower motor runs, the smoke goes away. It's only there when the blower is completely off.
  16. Absolutely agree with the above, don't drill it, replace it. Like Driver, I drilled out my strap yokes to convert to ubolts, it sucked. A week later I had to replace the pinion seal so it came off anyway. That whole seal replacement took less time than drilling out the holes and it was much easier.
  17. Wouldn't it cost close to $25-$30 just to ship something that size? I'm curious on the quality.
  18. Ah yes it is there on Android Tapatalk as well. Doesn't show up on the mobile site, which is fine by me, one less button to accidentally press.
  19. Ive wondered that myself when I first saw it, just never asked. Now I am gonna ask where is the "like" button at so I can never use it?
  20. Holy crap, I've seen these before but never knew they were such a sought after thing. What makes them so valuable? Are they really "that" good?
  21. When I took the carpet out of my 98 XJ I ran into the same issue. I never did anything about it and honestly after about a week I didn't even notice it anymore.
  22. If you want just a BT unit, get this. https://m.ebay.com/itm/Car-Stereo-Radio-Bluetooth-In-dash-Head-Unit-Player-FM-MP3-USB-SD-AUX-for-iPod/311852556576 I bought one for one of my XJs just to plug the hole in the dash. The radio sucks and only receives 1 station in my area and plays it on all frequencies. HOWEVER this unit has the best BT I've ever heard in a regular car stereo. Calls are super clear and music sounds great through it. I've used it more than a few times and am actually extremely impressed with the BT quality. As for the rest of the unit, well you see the price tag.
  23. There are lots of options out there for radios without a CD player these days. The rediculous lighting is harder to deal with. You should look into the cheaper brands like Boss, JVC, and Sony for the lighting issue. Generally these radios on the lower end of the price scale have much dimmer lights that you just outright can't see during the day at all. As long as you're not an audiophile wanting the absolute best audio quality, these radios do just fine. I honestly can't tell the sound difference between a $50 Sony and a $300 Kenwood but that's just me. (I think the expensive ones "sound better" because the thinner wallet your sitting on brings your ears down closer to the door speakers).
  24. I say renix since you got it, HO if you want to. The other ones seem very complicated and time consuming. I feel with the combination of all the work the truck needs plus a major Drivetrain swap, you may get burnt out on the truck. On the other hand, it would be pretty sweet with a drivetrain swap like you describe.
