Extended Cab MJ
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
To answer a few questions. He is building a tube frame for it. He is using the Jeep as a drag truck (yes I know...) -
how long are your coils
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to camo89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Measuring to the bushwackers isn't much help as you have to trim to fit the BW's and not many people on here run them. Measure from a common point (like the tip on the fender above the light). Going SOA in the rear a 6.5" coil is typically used and it looks fairly level. I'd say if you have a 2" block plus SOA in the rear you'd need a 8" coil in the front to make it level. However it depends on the condition of the rear packs and if they were 2wd or 4wd packs to begin with. It looks like you have plenty of room. Why not remove the blocks in the rear and just run a 6.5" coil in the front and lower the center of gravity a bit and have a much more stable and capable trail rig? -
The DIY4x kit does not include the conti-rings though does it?

It's still being made, just under the name of "Qishe 2500" now.

Any problems towing it with a tow dolly?

No 4.0L and it's not a Jeep.... Chrysler sold the rights to the design to another company after they ended production on the XJ in 2001. The said company is Bei Qi Autos (Beijing Autoworks); and is known for it's relationship with Chrysler and gets to produce an ‘offshoot’ carbon copy of the original vehicle. They've also done it to the 99-04 Grand Cherokee's. They are doing the same thing with the JK now. Here's a pic of the "Beijing JK". Does anyone know if the speedo gears in the NP231 and NP242 are the same? I know their is a difference among the years using the short and long gears; however what I want to know is if they are interchangeable among the NP231 and NP242. Thanks in advance!

Since this seams to keep coming up I figured I'd post some pics of a extended cab (with XJ 2 door door's) MJ project that a guy is doing.

This scares me. Wonder how "funked up" the rest of the cage is? Any more pics of any of the joints and how it mounts to the body/frame?

Wheel widening
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Maybe I don't fully understand why you'd want to widen your wheels; so I apologize prior. But why pay someone to widen a set of steel rims when steel rims in almost every size and offset combination is available from aftermarket manufactures? I'd think the cost to have a rim widened would be just as much as a new rim in the width/offset you want. Now I've paid good money to have rims reworked, but they were Euro BBS RS 3-piece rims that were for a BMW and worth about $4000. I can't say I can see the desire of any rim that Jeep's ever offered to sink any money into reworking them.... -
will xj gas tank fit in my mj?
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to 603Redneck's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No, and XJ tank will not fit without a custom setup. -
Factory brush guard
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to eacomanche88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not sure if you mean they never shipped from the factory with the guard or if Mopar never offered a guard. However they were available from Mopar and were installed on new XJ's (not 100% sure about the MJ). If you look threw the parts catalog's I have on GLXJ (http://www.greatlakesxj.com/tech.html) you'll see them listed. I don't have a pic of the pre '97 but here is one of the factory brushguards with the foglight option for the '97+. -

Drahcir495's Build-up
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to Drahcir495's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Sorry for the hi-jack but figured I'd just post here in response to the seals. The 97+ seals are larger; as I'm assuming that the door themselves are a tad different on the 97+ XJ's when they changed the body lines just a tad. Here is a pic of the difference in the seals. (left is 97+ seal; right is older seal) And for ref. here are the part numbers. 5517 6146 Front Door, WEATHERSEAL, Full Door to body, 2-door XJ 1997, 1998 5517 6148 Front Door, WEATHERSEAL, Full Door to body, 4-door XJ 1997, 1998 55176 148AB Front Door, WEATHERSEAL, Full Door to body, 4-door XJ 1999 55176 148AC Front Door, WEATHERSEAL, Full Door to body, 4-door XJ 2000 I have NO CLUE why their are different part numbers among the years... -
I'm lazy today.....

pan = diff cover? :dunno: -
I've used a product called simple green (I think thats what it is) before with great results. Let it soak in it for a few hours than take a scour pad to it and it wipes right off.

Yes DO NOT drive without a shaft in it. A guy recently was killed on the way home from the Badlands because some people he was wheeling with forgot to tell him to put the shaft back in. He left behind a wife a 2 kids. Here is a pic of the result of not having a shaft in of a local GLXJ member. The Jeep was simply drove from the break down on the trail to the camp ground. It was not driven more than 15mph and less than a 1/4 of a mile.

Vacuum actuator on 1991 front axle
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW replied to broythomas's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The factory setup uses it off of the transfer case with the NP231. A NP242 never came with a vac. disco axle and does not have any vacuum setup on it to control the vac. disco on the axle. -
