  1. With fuel injection, pumping doesn't do anything. With a carb it shoots a little extra gas into the engine. Helps start with a cold engine. With a warm, hot engine it'll flood it.
  2. It was a good one. Cars and drivers going airborne.
  3. I'm just wondering if it wouldn't be easier to just swap the whole axle assembly instead of messing with just the brake stuff. Cut and reweld the spring mounts and you're done.
  4. The AX5 is a stout transmission and if not abused will last indefinitely behind a 2.5. It will not hold up behind a 350 on the drag strip.
  5. Does a popped tire count as a mechanical failure? In 1971 I was living in Raton, NM. My younger brother was in uncle sam's flying club stationed at Lowery AFB, Denver. One night he call's me up and wants to know if I have something he can borrow, his car's in the shop and he has no way to get to work. So 8 o'clock at nite I've got a 1953 Jeep station wagon attached to my '65 Dodge camper special with a tow bar heading for Denver. I had just passed several cars and getting back into my lane when the Right front tire on the Jeep blew. I was doing 'a little over 75'. Immediately I'm swerving all over the road and trying to get stopped without wrecking. I got slowed down to about 50 or so and thot I was going to be OK when I spotted a guard rail coming up. I estimated the guard rail would catch the Dodge just about in the right door area so I grabbed the wheel with both hands and locked the brakes. The whole thing spun around 180 degrees and rolled one and a half times into the median. The tow bar separated and the Jeep was 100 feet farther from the Dodge lying upside down in St Charles river. All three were totaled. The Dodge, the Jeep and the tow bar. I had a bump on the head but was otherwise OK.
  6. Ever make a "snowshoe"? Wild turkey and peppermint schnaps.... I tried that. Didn't work out so well. The damn wild turkey kept drinking the peppermint schnaps before I could. Did you ever try stuffing a wild turkey into a glass full of booze?
  7. ^^^^ Wish I'd said that. Hit the nail dead center on the head.

  9. I can't remember what my worst mechanical failure in a car /truck was. I CAN remember my worst failure in a airplane. In 1960 I was stationed in Spain, in Elizondo. I had rented the SPanish flying club A/C I belonged to and took a buddy up for a aerial tour of the Pyrenee's. Had a bird strike at 400 meters killing the engine. There are no open fields in the Pyrenees. Slowing it down as much as I dared I picked a relatively soft spot and dropped it in. Gear got caught in the brush and it nosed over. Me and my buddy walked away unscathed. The plane suffered damaged landing gear, busted prop and torn engine mount with lots of under belly skin rash.
  10. I once pulled a '86XJ 40 miles on a 1200lb 20ft bed two axle trailer with a '87MJ 2.5, 4speed. 8 miles of that was on the interstate. It was not by choice. Had no trouble but I took it very easy. No weight in the bed but it would have helped. I pulled '91 Grand Cherokee on a tow dolly 35 miles, 30 of it on the interstate, with a 1990 MJ, 4.0, AX15, No brakes on the Dolly and ti would have helped. Unless it's very light weight VW bug or less, I would not use a tow bar with a MJ under any circumstances. Both instances cited above were with the factory bumper mount. A receiver type would have certainly helped.MJ can be used to tow with but use every advantage you can and just be careful.
  11. Comanche tail lights are one of a kind. Nothing else will fit.
  12. 7 inches.
  13. Was just trying to help somebody I thought needed them. Not doing me any good sitting in a box on a shelf. Ran a search on ebay was how I priced them.
  14. I'm out. Not getting in no bidding war.
  15. If I had remembered that was there, I would have posted under it.
  16. $90 shipped.
  17. Guys. Don't let your wives, daughters or girl friends see this. Ladies. Please control your animal instincts. I'm spoken for. I had to shave it off. It was driving me batty. Just wanted to let everyone see it. [url=
  18. I got to looking at a set of Caddy El Dorado rims I have. Wonder if any one doing a axle swap where the axle is wider than the D30-35 ones are has already tried it. The mounting surface is approx 6-8 inches farther out than a Jeep rim. Bolt pattern is 5 on 5. Depending on lift would require some wheel well trimming. Oldsmobile Toronado would probably be similiar. Just a thought.
  19. They only go back to 1980 for the SJ. Nothing for the '77.

You're excused. You may go now.
  21. Me too.
  22. When I was 16 I took my pride and joy, a '38 Buick 4dr convertable in for a oil change and grease job. When I got it home I crawled underneath and checked. Not one grease fitting had been touched. I haven't used a professional repair facility for anything since.
  23. but still Jeep. The last couple times I tried to use Goldie, '77 J20, I had trouble shifting and one h*ll of a noise when I pushed in the clutch pedal. Today I went to move a trailer and I couldn't get it into gear. Getting annoyed (annoyed. That's French for p*ssed off) and tore into it. This is what I found. \ Gotta check my stock pile. If I can't find what I need I may be out of luck. Anybody got any Jeep parts? Clutch release lever is the biggy. Throw out bearing carrier. May just use this as an excuse to switch over to an automatic. I'm getting to old for this shet.
  24. MJ? Anybody that would own a MJ should be committed. Or at the very least, kept under close survielence. survailence, survailance,,,,,,. supervision.
