Speedo Connecter on the Tranny
jimoshel replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The speedo cable screws into the transfer case on the drivers side. -
1984 1985 I give up!!!
-
I have a great habit of not being able to find a tool so I go buy a new one. Immediately after getting home with the shiny new tool I find the old one. I have 3 pressure testers. I can't find any of them. I refuse to buy a fourth. Pulled the mats and floor boards are dry. Been busy so haven't pulled the head yet. The exhaust is clear, except for getting anything held in it 'sweaty'. Got an idea, going to pull all plugs, spark, and keep filling pressure bottle. Cylinder has got to fill up sooner or later and water come out plug hole. Maybe. We'll see.

Well now, I kind of figure you would know that or else why would you want one?

turbo charging a 4.0

Wonder if they would send me one, gratis, in return for a honest review. -
Have the speedo cable. $25 shipped. Have a sender unit for a '94. Don't know if it will interchange with a '95 or not.
-
Got 3, 1'84, 2'85. $45 shipped.
-
Glad you found one. Haven't read the classified for a couple weeks so missed your original post. If anybody else needs one, $1200, or if you don't want the whole truck, $15 shipped.

Had a very interesting morning. My neighbor works for the BLM and trains horses on the side. Also works very close with the Adopt a Mustang program prisoner training program at Canon City. They use helicopters to help in rounding up wild mustangs so besides being accustomed to noises, trucks, motorcycles, ATV'S and what ever else is needed the BLM horses must be scare proof against any possibility of any kind of distraction, helicopters included. So this morning they had some training scheduled but alas, the helicopter was unavailable. I receive a phone call. "Jim, Can you buzz a herd in your Stearman?" Since I'm looking for any excuse to go flying so naturally I'm available. Get the details, location and I'm off. Made 5 passes and everything was looking good so decided to make the last one 'special' and head home. I guess it was. Witnesses swear that if Bob hadn't dove head first out of the saddle the wing tip would have knocked him out of it. They still haven't found or caught the horse. Sometimes ya just can't win for trying to hard. I really didn't think I was THAT close.

1988 jeep comanche transmission??

And as usual, you are correct. Had something else on my mind and wasn't thinking. Read my latest post in the Pub. Jim -
1988 jeep comanche transmission??
jimoshel replied to Preston's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The automatic transmission in 1988 XJ and MJ was the AW4. Only one offered by the factory. Don't overlook the fact that a PO could have swapped something. The trannies are the same. The bell housings are different, being the 2.5 and 4.0 used different bolt patterns. A 2wd transmission can be converted to 4wd by removing the ext housing and bolting on a transfer case, making sure the output shaft spline count is the same. 21 or 23 spline count. The front drive shaft from any XJ, MJ will fit. Only a rear drive shaft from a MJ will fit. They're out there. Just finding one. Best bet will probably just have one made. :wrench: -
I think they should be removed. Otherwise how can they squirt gas?

1988 jeep comanche transmission??
jimoshel replied to Preston's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It did. I believe the AW4 was the only auto trans available to Jeep Comanche in 1988 and I'm not sure but i believe it was also the only automatic available for the XJ. -
Welcome BigDog. The more the crazier.

Hey Chris. Welcome to the madness. Was stationed at Dow AFB '57 '58' 59. Nice town. Nice people. Lousy deer hunting. Jim

I really don't know what bumpers sell for or are worth as I always build my own. It looks to be a nice unit and worth the money.
-
You are correct. However I have always felt uniformity between cylinders to be more important than highest readings. It does 85 , and a little more, on the highway and gets 19-21 mpg so I'm not really worried about actual compression. Just where's the coolant going. Also the gauge has never been calibrated so who knows what the accuracy is?

And he has made a ton of money from his fairly tale. And he's making that ton of money from us suckers who have to pay for his ridiculous ideas and unproven claims.

How good are your fab skills? An MJ tank is the only tank that is a direct bolt in. However there are several tanks can be made to fit. The biggest problem is getting the filler tube in the right place, or just cut another hole in the bed, not recommended. Just don't pull the 70'S Wagoneer stunt and have the hose go up over the frame and into the tank. If you weren't parked on a steep slope it was almost impossible to top them off.

Block Drain Plugs Hard Stuck
jimoshel replied to flint54's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had one MJ overheating. Nothing helped. Flushed with hose, pressure washer, everything. Finally removed the front freeze plug. That block was so full of rust, crap there wasn't room for any coolant flow. removed the rest of the freeze plugs and between running hose and a working a cable in the jacket was able to clean it up good. Never messed with the screw in plugs. -
'88MJ, 4.0, auto, kept overheating and losing coolant. Traced the overheating to a clogged radiator. No clue as to where the coolant was going, no leaks, no puddles on the ground, no water in oil pan. Compression check was 100-110 PSI on all cylinders. Filled the pressure tank and came back an hour later and it was empty. Refilled it, started engine. Went around in back and held hand in exhaust output. 30 seconds hand was wet. Cracked block or cracked head, or leaking head gasket. Going to pull head tomorrow. We'll see.

Block Drain Plugs Hard Stuck
jimoshel replied to flint54's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The blocks are really hot when they screw those plugs in. When it cools down it is for all practical purposes one piece. It's welded in. Try some paraffin. Don't know why but it works better than Blaster or penetrating oil. Get a torch, Oxy-acetylene. A little propane just ain't gonna hack it. Heat the plug and rub paraffin around it. Wait for it to cool. The paraffin melts into the threads. Penetrating oil just burns off. This has worked for me on over half the plugs I've done it to. There were a couple just couldn't get nothing to budge them. -
This could be a whole new thread. Smart @$$ answers when cops ask dumb questions. Cop; Know why I stopped ya? You: What? You forgot already? Cop: Know why I stopped ya? You: You were lonely and wanted some one to talk to? I actually pulled that one on a Colorado state trooper. I was going 15 over. He looked at me trying to make up his mind if I was a smart @$$ or just trying to be funny. He decided I was the latter and told me to hold it down and went back to his car. Cop: You know how fast you were going? You: I sure do. She sure moves out doesn't she? Next?
