  1. Replaced the alternator and belt. Bearing went out on the alternator, freezing it up solid, and the belt broke trying to go around the non turning pulley. Found out some of the earlier alternators had both a grove for a V belt and the ribs for a serpentine.
  2. FYI, Besides pin 12 on the instrument cluster plug, terminal C on the Ignition module and D1-1 on the diagnostic connector can also be used.
  3. Renix XJ-MJ, and some HO's are direct swaps. There are different types but they all fit the same bolt pattern. Pop the hood. See where your reservoir is, Remote or attached to the pump. Scroll down and read the post by firefighter32.
  4. Jeep is notorious for not following their own color codes. The wire you want will be coming off terminal 12 on the instrument panel plug.
  5. During our last heat wave Mickey D ran out of ice cold lemonade.
  6. Got my camera and photobucket working so let's finish this up. The problem; Interference between reservoir and air hose. Image Not Found The solution. Get parts from another MJ-XJ. 1989 MJ Image Not Found Another 1989 MJ Image Not Found 1986 MJImage Not Found 1986 MJ Image Not Found 1988MJImage Not Found 1985 XJ Image Not Found Or, as a last resort, use an aftermarket. There is also a snorkel type filter but I didn't take a pic of it. Anyone wants one, let me know. Image Not Found By using a 1989 XJ for donor all parts were a bolt in. No modifications needed. Any questions, just ask. I really like it. Wish I'd done it sooner. AC next. Jim
  7. I thought about the TH400 but if I'm going to go that route then I'll probably just go GM engine too. Hmmm. I do have a '68 Caddy 500 I rebuilt a couple years back. DON'T GET ME STARTED! Just want a stronger, more reliable tranny than the 44's
  8. Is the AW4 any stronger than the 42,44,46 trannys? Or, would be a viable substitute for these trans? Is there a transmission that is stronger than the afore mentioned junkies that will bolt up to a 5.2?
  9. Emergency crews responded to an incident at the corner of 5th and Main late yesterday afternoon involving a pedestrian and a Jeep pick up. Seems the pedestrian, Carlos J. Stupido was jay walking across the intersection against a red light when he was struck by the truck. When he was interviewed by police Mr Stupido commented that it was bad enough getting splinters in his legs but when the truck backed up, shoving a corn cob up his rectum, was adding insult to injury. Mr Stupido was cited for interfering with traffic, Jay walking and being a public nuisance. The truck driver was commended for having a nice looking truck, despite the splintery front bumper and missing rear bumper.

  11. It does. Between no easily recognizeble ID marks on the tranny and being extremely exasperated I wasn't to worried over a E or H. Figured being a 46R was close enough.

  13. Got one to post and it's not the one I wanted. Send me your email addy and I'll send the rest. 6-7 I think
  14. I just did this about a week ago. Swapped a complete power steering set up from a '89XJ into my '87MJ. Since I had the donor and donee sitting side by side it was easy. Biggest problem I ran into is the reservoir and air intake hose. Not enough room for both. The reservoir top goes where the intake hose is. The perfect solution here is use a earlier pump '85-'86 with seperate reservoir. It mounts on the radiator support. The 89 was a 4.0 and the 87 is 2.5. I have pics but haven't been able to photo bucket them. There are also filter units that are narrower and the hose fits farther back, thus no interference. I'm going to swap it over in a day or two, when ever I get the time.
  15. Eagle, Not to change the subject but I am glad there is someone on here older than me (47). :jump: HoHum, 76 here but back to the subject. Having drove both straight axles, posi-loc, posi trac, limited slip, locker I feel they all have their place. Some are better under certain conditions than others. I personally feel you can't beat studded snow tires along with 400lbs dead wt in the bed, irregardless of the axle. And a easy touch on the gas pedal when appropriate.
  16. Apparently, so is rust. I had a '64 Gladiator with a 3"X16"X5' plank for a front bumper. I used it for a 'push truck' and used wood so I wouldn't scratch the chrome bumpers of the being pushed vehicles and I wanted it wide enough so it wouldn't climb over or go under their bumper. Worked great. Thought I'd seen all the local MJ'S but that's a new one to me.
  17. I was wrong. CJ2 didn't have tailgates. I would go by the GB in the VIN in identifying it. The biggest problem in identifying a older Jeep is so many parts interchange on them so you can't say with any certainality what one is just by looking at the grill, windshield, etc.
  18. Had no problem getting it out. Loosened the lock nut and unscrewed it with my fingers.
  19. When I made the original post I was PO"D and disgusted. Didn't even know if I was dealing with metric or SAE. Made a 30 mile trip into town for nothing. It rained while I was gone and my tool box was out and open. Just finished supper and had a cold one. Feeling better now. I have since determined it is SAE. 7/16X20. I have a half dozen scrap trannies so first thing tomorrow I'm going to drop the pan on a couple and see if one of them has a 'standard' head on it. If not, then I'm going to get a 7/16-20 Allen head or Torx bolt, round and polish the end and use it. I'll get that sucker going one way or another. Freakjeep93, tnx for the help. Jim
  20. Normally yes, The corners on this one are rounded. A 12 point won't turn it. Just slips. I tried one socket that was so tight I had to tap it on with a hammer. When the bolt started to get tight the socket just turned on the head.
  21. Tried to adjust the bands on a '93ZJ today. Don't believe it. The adjusting screw head is square. I don't have a square socket. A open end works but how do you use a torque wrench on a open end wrench? Every socket I tried to fit would just turn. I checked all the auto parts stores and nothing. Anyone know where to get the proper tool for this? If not I'm just going to weld a nut on the end and go from there. Disgusted. :help:
  22. It's a CJ2, and still a heck of a find.
  23. Kids. Don't try this at home. It should only be attempted under adult supervision. :jump:
  24. Good looking truck. Good resto project. Good luck on getting it. I've owned two FC150 and a FC170. Damn good trucks.
