So today I decided it was time to tighten up my steering column torx bolts AGAIN because when I rolled my truck I held onto the steering wheel for dear life and I guess it's not rated for 150 pounds getting flung around. Since I know first hand how annoying it is to tighten these freakin things ill let you guys know how I do it! So I first sat in my driver seat drank a beer and freshened up my memory by looking at some diagrahms online and the went on to take this darn thing apart without having any left over pieces. Step 1: Drink a beer step 2: stare at said steering column menacingly to make it scared so it complies with all of your swearing directions Step 3: get a steering wheel removal tool and pop that bad boy off Step 4: unplug the super wide connection at the bottom of the column seen here, it's needed to make your life easier later  Step 4a: (it's a pain in the neck and butt!) remove the retaining ring by either getting a lock collar remover tool or having a friend/ brother/ dog or someone to hold down the lock collar while you fiddle with that damn thing for 5 minutes to slide it back off the column! Step 5: remove the plastic black elbow shaped piece for the directional stalk that has 1 Phillips screw in it, take note of how it sits in place! Step 6: remove the 3 black screws holding the "white" plastic piece in place, the top right screw is covered so you have to manually spin the mechanism to the right so you can reach said screw. Then pull the whole piece out of your way and pull the wire harness (easily) for more slack Step 7a: (I ran out of beer so I got more) Step 7b: locate the Ignition set screw, take out that white plastic piece with the 2 copper pieces facing up and to the left and catch the metal spring that holds it in place! then remove the set screw with a T-20 torx bit and slide the ignition out Step 8: remove the next 3 torx bolts and the Flasher button with a Phillips screwdriver and the tilt lever by unscrewing it step 9: You should be able to pull the whole plastic cover over the steering shaft to find the 2 smaller reverse torx heads glaring at you in laughter because they think their almost set free from doing their job for 20+ years. Only the bottom two of mine were loose so I didn't remove anymore of the column Step 10: take those little bastards out and slop some loctite on them and tighten em back up! Step 11: Do everything backwards and hopefully you end up with it looking normal and fully functioning :D Step 12: reward yourself with another beer!

Went on a nice roadtrip to my other house a couple weekends ago, wasn't a bad drive with no windows but my heat isn't as hot as it used to be with the closed cooling setup. I need to rebuild my rear 44 as it is making some scary noises and get a back window from Teamcherokee.com and I should be good for awhile! Also painted my hood and header panel yesterday because I hated all the mixed colors! My truck and the family willys in the back Not bad for $1.00 Walmart spray paint B) Still cruising around in this little guy. Needs shocks and a radio and a 4cyl gauge cluster!

285/75R17S On A 2" Spacer Lift?
Dirteatr717 replied to KSjeepguy88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I fit 33.5"s on a 2" budget boost and yes I did have to trim up front but not a crazy amount, with the adapters and wheel back spacing I think you'd be okay enough to not rub like crazy -
I had a set of centerlines with 235/75 wintermarks when my truck was stock height and it looked pretty good IMO I'd say run em if you like em

Urban Exploration/ (Visit And Photo Abandoned Buildings)
Dirteatr717 replied to huricane4's topic in The Pub
I've explored a few abandoned places... For starters there are quite a few abandoned islands surrounding the main island and I've found a couple FSJs peppered with shotguns and houses ready to fall down from being flooded several times. Then there's the 2 local psychiatric centers Kings Park Psychiatric Center and Pilgrim State psychiatric center that have been shutdown since the 1980s that have many tunnels and covered up train tracks that were used for the civil war being that there's gravestones from the mid 1800s surrounding the buildings in the woods very close nearby. I've also visited the Camp Hero radar tower located at the end of Long Island and tried getting into the tunnels leading to the covered up naval base but couldn't find a safe entrance. Not many people would think/know about the tunnels and pathways 3-5 stories beneath NYC but there is some CRAZY stuff down there and it's very hard to get to.... No pics of that stuff as I didn't have a camera or a phone with flash. I do have pics of the rest of my nearby adventures :) Basement of building 44 at Kings Park 15th floor of the famous building 93 at Kings park 3rd floor of a storage building at Kings Park Entrance tunnel half a mile away in the woods from the basement of the power plant at Pilgrim State This is on top of a watch tower at an abandoned horse racetrack, probably 100 feet up or so "The Camp Hero radar tower was apart of The Montauk Project and is alleged to have been a series of secret United States government projects conducted at Camp Hero or Montauk Air Force Station on Montauk, Long Island for the purpose of developing psychological warfare techniques and exotic research including time travel." On the roof :) In the distance over the trees you can see the satalite from the top of the Montauk lighthouse If I had pictures of the tunnels from under Manhattan I'd post them discreetly but all of these pictures are all well known places. -
I'm sort of biased as I grew up with a 62 c-10 suburban in my driveway.. I'd like an early 60s short bed with some patina and lowered on some nice wheels and a LS drivetrain... Okay okay I'm dreaming now ill stop haha
-
The things I would do for an early C-10 :O that's just blasphemy!

I do like flying, I love rock crawling and hitting some stuff with speed as all there is is around here is sand as I live on an island... I try to hold back from doing it too much but it happens from time to time :D "when" this new axle bends ill most likely have something else lined up that "shouldn't" bend as easily haha

I got both of my Manches fo FREE with no rust in New York no less! What do I win?

Cherokee_Chief's '89 Lwb Pioneer Build
Dirteatr717 replied to cherokee_chief's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well since Brett doesn't have any Internet and has been a busy dude ill update his thread as I have nothing to do :D in the 6 months or so he's exploded multiple axle shaft u-joints taking out a couple chromoly shafts in the process and ripped another 2 steering boxes out of the frame and added a bed box and rear shock hoops and bought my super awesome 37" super swamper SSR tires off me. I only have pics of the shock hoops halfway done but ill get some more pics for you guys next time I see him  if I remember correctly he shoved a 35" long extended shock in there with about 5" of up travel in the rear and 4.5-5" of up travel in the front for all those speed bumps around here B) -
After 3 years of jumping and some decent offroad use and a rollover my Rustys HD track bar decided it was time to break in half, the threads ripped right out of the bar itself. Luckily I was close to home and welded it around tube and drilled a hole and rosette welded it to last me a little bit. Probably making my own whenever I get around to finishing my new to me axle :) Sold most of my 44/60 stuff as I've been unemployed since June and picked up a non bent non disconnect hp30 with new ball joints, hub bearings and u-joints for 50 bucks. Cleaned it up, started bracing some of the brackets and mocked up my d44 Ruff stuff passenger side upper control arm bracket which will tie into a simple truss to help keep this one from becoming a smiley face :) Hopefully will have my rear 44 and this 30 cleaned up and 4.10s installed soonish unlike any other project I've started and took forever to do..

Windshield is in, new open style radiator is in, got a 96 brake booster from my buddy for free and The guy at the glass place I went to said there's no way it'll fit after being rolled over... Guess again guy! It fits MINT! Also picked up 2" lift blocks for a XJ but ill be lowering the little manche :D

Def need a driver side 44 axle shaft, mines bent... I just replaced the bearing and seal on that one before I rolled too. Semi bent my shock back and slapped it back in, Straightend the rest of the roof today and put the entire interior back in. Hopefully getting a windshield put in tomorrow and I can start on the cage
