  1. Thanks! I'm finally starting to get close on it so it's starting to feel real. Still have a few hurdles to jump though.
  2. The flat bed. I drilled out all of the spot welds to retain the OEM stringers. Due to suspension travel I needed to raise it up because I didn't want wheel wells. I am also able to add some extra storage space, an under the bed aux fuel tank and hopefully an air tank. The plan is to have an access panel in the top of the bed to fill directly & also transfer pumps for either direction on both tanks in case the bed is loaded. I plan to keep the OEM style filler neck and mount to the side of the raised portion of the bed.
  3. Here's a shot of how the doors turned out:
  4. So.... I purchased this truck many moons ago. I am ashamed to say that after nearly ten years the truck has not been in running condition for almost the entire time. I purchased it in Las Vegas, trailered it Texas, then a couple year later trailered it to California. I've let just about anything get in the way of getting this thing done, now i''m starting to make progress. Here's where it all started: https://comancheclub.com/topic/17442-old-drippy/?tab=comments#comment-178325 Started as: 1991 Jeep Comanche 2WD 4.0 AX15 Rough condition is an understatement... I decided to give this another try, this is what the final form is shaping up to be: Converted to 4X4 D30 4.10 Spartan Locker, manual locking hubs External slave AX15 NP231 / SYE Adam's Drive shaft...shafts Ford 8.8 LS 4.10, C-clip eliminator Mercedes OM617 Diesel Garrett T3/T4 Hybrid 97+ Front clip & doors Sheet metal on bed was garbage, decided on flatbed- only half done. 15 Gallon aux fuel tank, Also i painted it brown. Here it is as it sits today: Much more to come.
  5. Why use a tractor engine when you can use a proven, available, road legal Mercedes engine: http://www.mercedesdiesel4x4.com/
  6. I could potentially donate some airline miles... Southwest.
  7. Jay looks like me on any random Tuesday morning... Tired, bored, don't want to be there.
  8. I'll bet these guys have one: http://www.jwjeep.com
  9. 87 was. Guy is sitting on a complete goldmine for an FSJ lover. Definitely has no idea how rare that thing is. Less than 2k trucks came off the line in '87.   I knew it was something like that, my first Jeep was an '82 J10 Long bed AMC 360 & 4 speed. I miss that truck...
  10. This appears to be one of those cases where someone truly has no idea what he has. Wasn't '88 the last year for J trucks? $800.00 http://goldcountry.craigslist.org/cto/3191204883.html
  11. Just look at the majesty of this thing...Definitely worth it. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/3204184575.html I also like how later in the ad he says he only wants $12.00 for it.
  12. If i were to go Russian i would want to go with a whole lota Lada...Niva style: http://www.ladacars.org/HTMLS/Models/Lada-Niva-2121.htm
  13. I have yet to get any Bell experience, the French stuff requires too much attention... We have sponsorships through companies in Mexico & a couple others which allow us to work in those countries.
  14. All of the helicopters in the Dakar pics are Eurocopter, either Astar's or EC130's. The night picture is a bit deceiving, but it is just an Astar with ski racks... The big white one with the red & green stripes is the El Jefe in Chief president of Mexico's private EC725...
  15. This is all there is that i know of, i only remembered it because i found it...interesting. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=30459
  16. This is about as good as it gets as far as that idea goes: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=30459
  17. Found one of me with some of the Police officers in Santiago... I'm the nurdish guy on the right: I'm at Niagra Falls this week, got some pics today: I almost got taken out by this bird, could never have timed that right if i tried. The falls with Canukia in the background: Can't put any of the helicopters on for this trip...Government. :fs2:
  18. yes please Yep, that's my favorite one too, evening along the Dakar Rally course...
  19. Vegas does have a lot of turn over, i lived there when the cash for clunker pandemic was happening & visited the various JY's almost weekly with nothing ever staying the same for two weeks in a row... Don't forget JW Jeeps out by Sacramento, supposedly the largest Jeep junk yard... In the world. If they are to be believed.
  20. I work on Helicopter engines for a living as a traveling technician. I thought that i would share some of the pictures that i have taken / acquired through the years. You'll know the ones i took because of the terrible quality... These first are from Mexico: These are from Chile, I didn't take any of these: Here's one i took at a forestry department retirement resort in Alpine TX: That's my car, it did surprisingly good off road with very little loss of control even at speed: Saw this one in Woodland CA: Charlie Schwab's AB139: Saw this one in Georgia? I think: Saw this one in Missouri after a really cool snow storm: That isn't everything by a long shot, but it will do for now...Enjoy!
  21. If you're sending out your injectors you might as well have your diesel tech check your compression to make sure all is well there. I would also consider having the turbo overhauled while the IP is out for repair if you can afford it... :wrench:
  22. I love this truck, you have made excellent choices. Were it mine i would do the same as you, the look is perfect for a "happy Jeep". Don't fret over much about the power issues, make her run right & drive it... Slowly.
  23. Thanks for the kind words. I'll hang on to it a bit longer, maybe i can make something of it eventually...
  24. I'm thinking to myself that i will not have the time to work on my Comanche project for possibly years to come. It has already sat for over a year with absolutely no progress. I'm thinking of giving it up. Should i place it for sale? It is not drivable, but i have done a fair amount work to it: Tune up, Hell Creek / Rough country 4.5" lift (not finished, but rolling), overhauled & installed a Ford 8.8 rear axle 4.10 gears LSD new bearings, have a D30 HP that is taken apart that have been sleeved & LCA guards UCA braces added, 97+ front clip with working lights, 97+ dash (not installed), JCR rear bumper (not installed or painted), JCR short bed rock rails, Mercedes OM617 adapter plate to fit AX15 transmission (the HO runs very good just wanted something different), topper that is not for a Comanche but is a very close, that's probably not everything, but it's been too long... It does run / move under it's own power, but i only have the E-brakes connected, so it is sketchy at best even to move. Here are some pics of current status: I'm truly at an impasse with this thing, I know i won't get out of it what i've put in, but it would almost be a relief to see it go. I am not interested in parting out, just getting feelers...
  25. best deal so far  That one has been on there for many moons, it's a lien sale & the one crappy picture doesn't give a lot of credibility. If you are really dieing for a project come get mine, i don't have the time for it. :wall:
