Header clearance with 350
kansashogan replied to kansashogan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I bet it gets really close when getting on it hard. But I never do that thankfully. -

It’s hard to believe I’ve had this thing for almost eight years. I haven’t done anything to it for quite awhile but it’s starting to show some age and needs a few things taken care of. I noticed a misfire a couple weeks ago and as I suspected the #4 plug wire was arcing on the header. Dang, those were some really nice wires and they weren’t cheap. I ordered some Accell ceramic ended wires and some looms to spiff the old girl up. Under the hood is looking grungy so I will take some time and 5S it. If there are any John Deere employees on here they will know what I’m talking about. Lol I have been dreading tackling this next project. I need to pull the dash to fix the water leak on the passenger side around the air intake for the fan. I’ve tried various things to get by but…..nope. While I have the dash out I need to fix a suspected ground issue on the tach. When I did the gauges I put an extra ground as recommended. It’s intermittent but still needs fixed. We had been getting lucky with the heat but Mother Nature had to remind me of the Kansas summers, and I’m old and chunky.- 235 replies

Someone, somewhere was inquiring about how much room there is between a 350 sbc with 1 5/8 headers and the steering shaft. There literally is about 3/16th of an inch.

Thanks for the link. I checked the voltage and the most I got was .13 so that should be good. A friend of mine was telling me about an additive that diesel owners use to help with electrolysis and I’m going to add a bottle for some peace of mind. Anyone ever used this stuff? Opinions?- 235 replies

Well, the Novak radiator is done. It started leaking pretty bad again so I took it to an old timer who has been fixing radiators for 50 years. He called and told me it was unfixable. He said electrolysis ate it up. So I bought a new brass and copper one from Rock Auto. It’s not a conversion one so nothing fits what I had. I have been doing a bunch of reading to educate myself about electrolysis and I won’t let that happen again.- 235 replies

I put a new battery in and that’s about it. She’s been doing real good although I haven’t driven it much lately. The heated seats in my new truck are nice this time of year- 235 replies

I don’t know Pete, this one is probably THE best. -

I have Autometer gauges in mine> They are really expensive but they are good. For simplicity you can use an HEI distributor. One switched wire and one for a tach. I have the Holley Sniper with the Dual Sync distributor so it controls the timing.

This is the first time I've looked at this thread. All I can say is WOW! I love it.

I haven’t done anything but drive it for quite awhile. I bought this ‘98 Grand Cherokee disc brake set last year so I decided to finally put it on. I followed the guy who has a video on here with one change. The axle had a lot of play in and out so I put .100 spacers between the shoulder in the axle and bearing. I don’t know if it matters one way or the other but I guess I will find out. It seems to be working good so far.- 235 replies

That’s insane. You HAVE to post a video when you fire it up. -
Leak on passenger side
kansashogan replied to kansashogan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have fixed the three spots you mentioned. I could pour a glass of water inside the cowl and it would start streaming in immediately. These trucks can be frustrating at times. I’m somewhat confident this may have fixed it. -
I have had a leak on the passenger side for years and had it narrowed down to being inside the cowl but I just couldn’t get to it to see what was leaking. I was taking parts off the Comanche I am parting out and had an idea. I took a sawzall and cut the cowl out to see what was inside. The opening for the blower motor has some spray foam stuff around a “chimney” if you can call it that. Now that I knew what was leaking I made a sheet metal dam to block water from going to that side and siliconed it real good. It would have been a huge project to take the dash and everything out to replace the foam. I will wash it in a day or two and report if I fixed it or not

Very nice, congratulations sir -
I have seen some guys posting either here or on one of the Facebook pages about wanting some floor braces. I don’t know if they are worth the time to get them out. Like some guys I put a value in my time and I would have to charge a pretty penny for them. I am going to cut the cab corners and rockers though. How far up should I go? If anyone wants them let me know.
