Throttle Body Spacers?
outlaw star replied to Sir Jacob the 2nd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes this is true. Swapping injectors is for flow/spray pattern only. Injectors have what's called a "duty cycle" which is controlled by the ECU. Only way to get more flow from the injector is to tweak/program the ECU.So, based on your stated logic- An injector from 305 Chevy will deliver the exact amount of fuel as will the injector in my 2.5? The MPFI 2.5L yes, not the TBI 2.5L. Theyre both EV1 style 19lb hr injectors. The trick in switching injectors is to find one that mists the fuel instead of just spraying it. Think of it like the dual spray pattern on a bottle of Lysol, 409 or whatever kitchen cleaner you use. Now one setting is just a stream, the other is more of a conical spray. Now air and fuel need to mix evenly for a better, more efficient burn. So which pattern do you think would be best if you shot fuel outta that cleaner bottle? The conical pattern because the fuel is a finer mixture than if it just shot out like a stream. As for the duty cycle of an injector opposed to it's flow rating, take the 19lb number, this is how much fuel the injector will push if the needle is held constantly open. This is where duty cycle is used. Duty cycle is the amount/length of time the needle in the injector is held open by the ECU. The injector, much like the VE of a carb, never sees 100% of it's duty cycle so the 19lb unit operates more like a 15-16lb unit. By switching to lets say a Cobra 24lb injector, you may gain a little more pressure for that brief cycle but the ECU still operates at it's pre-programmed duty cycle. When you adjust things like MAP, O2, Temperature Sensors, etc, the ECU makes fine adjustments to it's duty cycle to adjust the A/F ratios. This is where the slightly larger flow rate helps out because the larger injector doesn't have to work as hard to flow more fuel. Sorry for the lengthy reply, I'm just trying to awnser/explain your question as simple as I can for you. I appreciate your response and I seemingly understand a little better. To be specific though- The 305 Chevy two barrel TBI uses the same style injector as does my 2.5.......that is what I was referring too. Ooops! Lol -

Sorry, got sidetracked. Lol. Correct, great for carbs and TBI, crappy for MPFI. -

Rochester 2SE carburetor

Hence the 70-80% VE rating. Only fully built race motors run close to 100% VE. -
Rochester 2SE carburetor
outlaw star replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Weber makes a 32/36 DEGV carb as a replacement/upgrade for the Rochester one. Here's the carb size math formula to help you in choosing CFM size. Engine size (in Cubic Inches) x Max RPMs of motor / 3456 = Max CFM. Now this formula give 100% Volumetric Efficiency and most street motors only run at 70-80% VE IE: (I'll use a 2.5L as an example) 150 x 5,500 / 3,456 = 238.7 CFM. So max CFM size would be a 250 CFM. It's hard to get a carb in the exact CFM size but choose the size closest to the math. Hope this helps. -
With any used engine, I always tear it down to inspect everything.

I was using Weisco ones.

Have you thought about the Weber 32/36 DGEV Carb instead of the Rochester junk carb? -
It's all I need for now as it's 2wd and I really don't off-road as much anymore. (Army unit takes all my free time)

Banks header for 2.5
outlaw star replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
http://www.moabjeeper.com/articles/technical/listing.cfm?articleID=235 Fair enough. I figured some fabrication/modifications to the downpipe would be needed as the Wranglers bellhousing and crossmember are a little different. As for bolt on I was mainly referring to the EGR n Heater pipe hook ups. -
If you got any pull over there ask them to let me in, please. Find them on Facebook first. That's what I did.

It costs 350-400 bucks but the Borla 2.5L Wrangler TBI header bolts up to our Mjs. Just ordered one on sale for 320. PN 17061. Google Borla Jeep 2.5L Header -
The MAP that Renix uses is a simple Chevy style MAP. You can buy various MAPs by Accel like I did when I built my stroker. Look for 85-92 Camaro or 87-91 Chevy truck ones if you want a direct plugin.

Ah, that's a nice setup for that little package. Also, kudos to you on the father-son thing. Mine is 9 and has been helping me as well. [emoji106]- 798 replies

Well Happy Birthday man, hope it will be a good one.

Well as I said, it can be pulled off if this one falls into an earlier timeline where he was younger, that's all. But then take movies like Red Dawn, yes it was a good movie but nowhere near as good as the original. Sometimes it works, sometimes not but I will go see MM4 anyways as I grew up with all of them.

I like them for basic tires

New brakes and hardware all around. Dropped her off for four 235/75R15 tires. [emoji2]

The flexplates should be the same. -
Sorry, you can't have Mad Max without Mel Gibson. Only way I can see a younger person replacing Mel is if this story pre dates the timeline.
