Replacing motor mounts?
mnkyboy replied to jeep_freek88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
either would work, both are 20 years newer then the ones youve got. I just helped my nieghbor extract the broken bolts out of his XJs block and i think he just ran to NAPA and got some. -
Replacing motor mounts?

I would make sure to check out the bolts on the passenger side motor mount bracket where the bracket bolts to the block, the bolts like to work themselves out or snap off. i figure if its a problem with stock mounts it might be a bigger problem with the ones your looking at since they don't look like they are gonna give as much. might just replace the bolts while your in there. -
Muffler Toast but now more power!

well theres were your power is coming from. the TB and intake have been just sitting there waiting for you to finish the job. can't shove more air in the engine if you can't get anymore out the other end. they do sell high flow cat's that should be legal in california but they are expensive,I'm thinking just a turbo muffler of some sort is gonna give you a good balance of quiet and performance. -

I put a cherrybomb turbo muffler on my Ford EXP before i turboed it,with a 4-2-1 header and the factory cat it sounded pretty good. it was fairly quiet but gave the little four cyl a nice low growl when you stepped on the gas. kinda sounded like a nicely tuned V6 -

ya, It can suck and they usually don't break till your almost done. coming down the final strech and :grrrr: good news is theres lots of XJs to practice on. ive been to some U-pull its that don't let you pull them, its about $50(last i checked) and they pull it for you. that might be the route i go if i don't break down and just get a new one. -
Its odd for an auto manufacture to care so much about its customers  thanks AMC

if the old one was plugged the new one will perform better but probably no as well as no muffler. if you want to keep your new found power you might look into a performance muffler,OEMs are designed to be quiet and not some much for power. i have a flowmaster on my MJ (2.5L TBI 4spd) with no CAT and i can outrun my brothers 95YJ (2.5L MPFI 5spd) with stock exhaust. -

this is good to know,if my windshield gets any worse i may knock it out and buy some goggles  Harbor frieght sells a couple cheap windshield removal tools to help get one out in one piece. -
I don't think ive owned a vehicle with more nooks and crannies for stuff to collect then my MJ.

You can't be current on everything all the time. whats wierd is they say "may require" and only if you run it as a 4 link :dunno: BTW I contacted full traction about thier 4 link set up going into an MJ but havent heard back yet. -
I have a friend that is a decent painter but for some reason he struggles to shoot white, seems most of the time he ends up with a track meet(bad runs). I do agree it does hide alot

it looks like a high idle solinoid, carburated engines use them too it just pushes the throttle open a little when the engine is cold, once it warms up it shoud turn off. other then hard starting on cold days and ruff idle at start up you should be ok without it for now. it could also be tied in to work as a dash pot.you will know that if it stumbles when you dump off the throttle. the renix system is still kinda new to me but thats how they work in general it does make me wonder why its unhooked though, going back to the bandaid,i would still plug it in and see what happens

for my 16th birthday my parents gave me permission to buy a car. IIRC that was all they gave me that year.

it was probably the cheap primer, also if you shot it when it was cold out things like that can happen. metal can sweat when heated and cooled so if you paint it cold it cold trap water under the new paint. Be careful when you shoot the single stage equipment paint,if you don't over lap it right you will get dry spots, and if you need to go back over a spot you usually have to go over the entire thing. I usually start out spraying real light to get started then turn up the material knob a little after i have a good base. after the entire thing is coated good i turn it up more to do the shine coat, this is tricky for some people. you want to walk the line between dry and runs, spray enough to get a good shine but not enough to run the paint, this is were the overlap is important becasue if the shine coat is all even with no dry spots it will look good. I would practice on something so you can see the difference between wet and dry,ive tried to train people who just can't see the difference. paint something till it shines then let it sit a minute then shoot a random stripe on it you will see your new stripe will shine but the area all around it that was shiny will now look dry and hazy. If you can get it down good you can make the equipment paint shine to the point people will think its clear coated.

its big enough that you should have an adjustable track bar. if you look at the front end it will look shifted to one side, you need the adj. track bar to recenter it.
