I call the 89 2wd daily driver "Grandpa Jeep" it rode so soft, it felt like a worn out old couch on wheels, and it was 21 years old with just 32k miles on it when I got it, like a grandpa car/truck. Sometimes my son and I call the trail truck "Frankenstein" because its pieced together from so many vehicles. 5 or 6 for body parts, 6 or 7 for the drivetrain. Only the 'frame', 3/4's of the cab, the dash & wiring harness are original.

http://scoutconnection.com/ does still list a hitch for SCOUTS; (Click on "parts" on the above page); HITCH (CLASS III) - Fits Scout II, Terra, and Traveller. Bolt-on application. Weight distributing capacity - 10,000 lbs. Weight carrying capacity 5,000 lbs. Also available for 1960 and Pickup and Travelall. UPS delivery. Scouts Connection seems like a nice family owned business if I was looking for a hitch, I think I'd call to see if they still get theirs from Eaz, and maybe even ask for the name of their connection there. It couldn't hurt. :)

Looking through some old FOURWHEELER magazines, & I found a write up on putting a hitch on a Scout II Text of article said; "Finding one for a Scout II may be a problem, as no hitch manufacturers make them any more- sort of. Eaz-Lift makes a few of them every year sold exclusively through the Scout Connection in Ft Madison, Iowa" This magazine is old, as in November 1994 old :) but Eaz-Lift is still around; http://eaz-lift.com/eazlift/ I wonder if they're still willing to do small runs of hitches? (I don't need one myself)

Lol, Judging from the topic name, and author, I thought this was going to be about Youk going over to the dark side. :)

Will A 07 Jk Dana 30 Fit My 88 Mj
jpnjim replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Adding another perspective, the pics I've seen of failed JK axle tubes, they didn't bend like you'd expect most tubing to, they broke, like something cast. More like fractured metal, than a split, or tear. I don't think the tubes are cast, but I don't think they are like normal traditional tubes either. Either way, the inserts seem be a pretty good solution. -
I Have Good-Bad One To Think Over ...
jpnjim replied to cz777's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You might have gotten a hold of some bad gas, or maybe a little moisture in your tank. Slight fuel problems can cause bigger issues in the cold, especially when you need that richer mixture during warmup. Vacuum leak, missing factory air box/missing hot air line (pre-91), crusty injectors all make things worse when the weather gets cold. -
$40? Money well spent. Give it to that guy that's always borrowing your tools... Problem solved. :)

Probably there getting its unit bearings done ;)

(If it was one.....)Hopefully they don't wreck it in the next episode!

FWIW, XJ rocker is nearly identical to MJ rocker, both have the same ft fender bend & dimensions except; XJ rocker is ~63" long (depending on where you measure it) and STRAIGHT, with gradual increase in depth. Open on both ends. MJ rocker is 48" long, with a crimped in ramp where it tucks behind cab corner. MJ rocker also has a 7.25" long welded on end to close out rocker. Added end piece increases MJ rocker to aprox 53.25" long. XJ fender¦gradual depth increase all the way¦open end ____,-----------------------------------------------------------, '----------------------------------------------------------------' ^ back side up against XJ inner rocker ^ MJ fender¦gradual depth increase¦ramp¦cap ____,---------------------------------------~,________ '-------------------------------------------------'-----' ^back side up against MJ inner rocker ^

No pics for now, but the measurements are all pretty basic. Rocker depth changes throughout the length of the rocker; Underneath the fender, rocker depth is 3" Immediately after the fender, sharp bend increases rocker depth to 3.5" Gradual increase until 39" after the fender bend. @39" from fender bend, there is a crease to allow rocker to fit behind cab corner Rocker depth just before cab corner is 4" Underneath the cab corner there is a 3" long ramp that reduces the rocker depth back to 3" to finish off the rocker. Entire channel section of MJ rocker is 48" long, with a 7.25" capped end welded inside. So; Rocker depth is 3"(x4" long section behind fender), sharp bend to 3.5" depth ------>gradual increase (over 39" span underneath door) to 4", ramp (3" long ramp behind cab corner) drops it back to 3" deep (for last 2"). Done. fender¦gradual depth increase¦ramp¦cap ____,---------------------------------------~,________ '-------------------------------------------------'-----' ^back side up against MJ inner rocker ^

Not to disagree, because I have had this happen to me too (which is why I always buy small cans) But I just opened up 3/4's of a can I had sealed up well over a year ago, and it was perfect still. :) 1)I had "re-canned" it, so maybe the new can sealed better - the last two POR-15 cans I got had their lids bonded to the cans right from POR, and I had to destroy them opening it 2)I used plastic wrap under the lid, as they recommend (to not bond the lid like above) 3)I had the can in my little shop fridge for the whole year+ like they recommend. Hopefully I am just as lucky next time I try to use it again (1/2 the can left now)

If you just want something to cover it with till spring, when you can better deal with it? Do not use POR-15 If it adheres correctly, POR-15 is a permanent fix. You will hate trying to remove it in the spring when you're ready to really dig in. For temporary rust prevention, I just knock off what I can, and hit it with whatever paint I have handy. Knowing that more rust will be there when I go back, but not as much as if I left it unpainted. Once you've has a chance to properly prepare the metal, I completely recommend POR-15. Just be sure to paint over it when your done, because it doesn't have any built in UV protection like most other paints

Point taken :) I still have way too much stuff packed from the move, and lots of boxes that I'm not even sure what is in them. I was just having fun with you though, no pressure, jealously in Comanche-dom is pretty well satisfied thanks to Rob, Pete & others now anyway ;) Thanks to all the posts so far I've seen quite a few things that I didn't know existed. Once I dig deeper into the pile of boxes here, I'll have some more stuff to post myself. Only thing left to ask...... who's gonna step up and start a wives & girlfriend jealousy thread now?:D
-
That doesn't look ready for paint yet ;) Hmm...... can you even mail spray paint?

It's a little tougher to haggle, after a 4 hour drive lol! But can still be done by the right negotiator, Like, "$XXXX.xx dollars is my max, I won't ever drive all the way back here, even for just $1 more." The fact that you are taking the used vehicle they are selling FAR AWAY should be a selling point for them too, you won't be back 50 times to complain about every tiny unseen issue.

Need more pictures of both to really decide ;)
-
Lol! I haven't had a chance to accurately compare the XJ to the MJ rocker but I think they are pretty close, minus the capped off end of the MJs. If it would fit both, I don't think a U-weld-it 3/16" rocker replacement is that crazy of an idea.
-
Some people make week long adventures out of picking up trucks on the other side of the country. Not me :) But just sayin ;)
-
A couple people have said "so and so makes great replacements" but I have never seen any convincing pictures. There was a couple on Ebay that looked promising, but, at the time, I didn't want to get stuck with more crapermarket junk like the JC Whitneys, and ordered factory replacements. Hopefully C2C really is willing to make some better replacements for us, then the problem is solved. I may be dreaming, but I would love it if someone would make a U-weld-it rocker kit out of 3/16", pre cut for folds. Not rock rails, but an actual replacement rocker that closely follows the original shape, made out of 3/16" Like the JCR rear bumper kit that was just introduced.

Ok, But in keeping with the old vs new theme; 1990: 2012: :)
