Your dad being an electrician should be a big help. He didn't go on the inspection with you? I brought an electrician (myself), and a plumber/oil burner tech with me on my inspection last month. Home inspector seemed ok, but missed stuff, then 'acted' outside of his expertise a little too much for me I did not tell him I am an electrician, and my buddy is a plumber. I have yet meet a home inspector who is more substance than smoke & mirrors, and everything said is taken with a grain of salt. Goodluck getting your issues straightened out.

Wow, looks like you actually got a home inspector that realized he was working for you, and not the realtor. I didn't think those guys existed. As far as the panel being overloaded, if you really like the house have an electrician look at it. Home inspectors are great, but they can sometimes make assumptions outside of their expertise. Adding up the breakers to see they exceed the main breaker size won't tell you if the panel is overloaded, (most panels are like that) a load test will tell if it's overloaded: energizing everything that would likely be turned on at the same time. Even then, you may be able to balance your loads to improve the situation. As far as the buried tanks, that would concern me more. I would definitely get a price for removal, and work with the sellers if I really liked the house. If not, I'd keep looking, there are plenty of houses out there.

Glad you're getting things under control, too many projects can be worse than too few. And now when you do meet your maker someday, she'll know the auction guy will bring more $$$ than the car crushing guy. But just to maintain a healthy balance in your house Jim, you need to convince her to liquidate 1/2 of whatever it is she collects now.

Working on getting this right now: I've been working under the stars in the driveway for 17 years, not sure what I'll do with a garage   edit, couple more crappy cell phone ---> text pics: 12' tall garage to keep me happy 12' wide closet to keep her happy:

When the bottom fell out, and they sold for a fraction of the already low price, people were buying 2 or 3 at a time just so they could keep one running. Parts would fall off of them as you drove them off the lot. Lol Socialism makes for crappy assembly line workers. ;-)

Just Another Old Jeep Truck at Auction
jpnjim replied to flint54's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
My greatest hope is someone buys that thing up, and relieves its misery with a proper ride height. It's like seeing your tough as nails war vet Uncle Henry wearing a plunging neckline pink sequenced prom dress and pearls. :( -
rear diff. problem, possibly?
jpnjim replied to Dan.Keppel's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
From the latest description I'm starting to think this now too. Tempo is everything with drive train 'raps' Does the tempo increase follow engine speed, or vehicle speed? Or is it steady, or random? For a sound that only happens under load; If it decreases tempo/pace with the 1-2 shift, I'd look to the engine trans side of things. If it keeps increasing pace with speed, I'd think the back half of trans, driveshaft, or rear axle. If it seems random (but louder under load) bad motormount or trans mount making your exhaust, or other contact something it shouldn't. A real easy one would be fan hitting the shroud under load. Just BE CAREFUL trying to find/diagnose this, I'd hate to see you drive into a pole the 15th time you nailed the gas through 1st gear, with your head hanging out the window. A friend standing/listening outside the Jeep can be helpful too. -
Blown ignition module?: 1998 XJ
jpnjim replied to jpnjim's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, I've been known to overthink a problem or two now and then ;) I still like the idea of pushing some oil into the empty filter with the starter after a change. If it wasn't angled so much I could fill it first. Next oil change I will either try the WOT trick, pull my fuel relay, or the cps. Jeep cps's seems to like to be disconnected & reconnected now and again, so I'll probably do that. I don't think I'll unplug the primary side of the coil, it was a PITA getting my paws in there to swap it. Well thanks for all the replies, for better, or worse, I'm glad I'm not the only one who spins their starter after an oil change.  -
rear diff. problem, possibly?
jpnjim replied to Dan.Keppel's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine would go click-click-click-click-click-click when under power. I popped the cover, and there was 2-3 missing teeth off the ring gear (3.73 D35). It was fine, other than the clicks, and the reflective-shiny diff fluid. I probably could have swapped the fluid, and run it a little longer, but I had another spare 85' 3.73 rear D35 tucked away at the time. -
Blown ignition module?: 1998 XJ
jpnjim replied to jpnjim's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It was the ignition coil. D*mn thing tested out fine too. Finally got around to fixing it today, right after I bolted in the $33 BWD coil from Advance Auto, I found the spare factory coil I had. Oh well, it's good to have a spare (just have to try not to lose it again). Either way, I am REALLY glad I smoked my coil, and NOT the ignition module embedded inside the engine computer.   -
rear diff. problem, possibly?
jpnjim replied to Dan.Keppel's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A broken ring gear tooth sounds like that. A bad trans mount can put the driveshaft in a weird position, and make some funny noises too. Even with a good trans mount, a bad U-joint also sounds like this. First thing I would do is check the rear axle fluid, if there's glitter in it (chunks of metal), start looking for another rear axle. And the U-joints. I would say the trans itself could be making the noise, but if first gear were that bad (ratchet noise under power) it would most likely be popping out of gear on acceleration. FWIW, You probably have a D35 rear & AX4 trans (assuming you mean 4spd std trans, and not 4spd auto). Most 4cyl's have 4.10's, but with a 4spd std trans, it should be 3.55's: -
Jim, you easily win this, the rest of us are battling for second place.

This should be your signature line Jim. :clapping: :rotf:

ZJ parts swap, there getting scrapped
jpnjim replied to lifted_xj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Actually since yours is a 1988 even the steering knuckles would be an upgrade, (early XJ/MJ's used weak knuckles w/ bolt on caliber brackets) You would also need the newer calipers to match those newer knuckles. You could think about changing over to the newer style wheel bearings & rotors at the same time, they are more commonly available parts these days, though truthfully the early stuff was better. -
ZJ parts swap, there getting scrapped
jpnjim replied to lifted_xj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ft coils are a little beefier Since they are 6cyl they are pretty much the same as heavy optioned XJ/MJ coils, Little oil filter adapter is good to change metric filter Renix engines over to std thread. Some people like the overhead consoles. Ft shafts are good for spares (as long as they are not cv's) 6 cyl ZJ' s usually have 242 t cases Some have swapped the seats into XJ/MJ's including the split rear into XJ's If they have rear skid plates, they're worth taking XJ guys have been known to work them to fit their tanks. If the engines aren't worth saving, you could atleast grab the 4.0l head/intake/exhaust manifold for a future HO upgrade. Injectors would also be an upgrade over the 2 piece, leak prone Renix Injectors. Plus grab the master cylinder, rear brakes, steering box & sway bar like the other guys said -
Jeeeep heep d33r of the 2 you put up, I like JEEPMJ (or MJJEEP)

Thank you. I will look into Churchill, the mortgage companies we checked into all needed the two scores, but we did not check that one. Glad to know there is a company that doesn't rely solely on FICO scores. .......but after reading the FICO requirements for the 10th time, I think I've been overlooking something this whole time. Requirement #1 & #2 CAN be one, single credit card account (I think), so long as that account is Undisputed. 5 years ago, I reported a Fraud Alert to the credit bureau (my SSN was on a stolen laptop with 5000 others, so I reported it to block any unauthorized usage). When we first pulled my credit, it showed my one credit card as *disputed by customer* (due to the fraud alert) I asked them to lift the dispute, but it's possible my lack of a FICO score on two of the three agencies is still reflecting that Disputed Account.   I am now really hoping that was it. (I guess I will find out next week). Thanks to all so far for answers, and suggestions I knew I could count on you guys.

My problem is, according to TransUnion, I don't have enough info for the FICO model to generate a number. According to FICO, I need: http://www.myfico.com/CreditEducation/q ... score.aspx My solo credit card meets requirement #1 (originated in 1999, $15k limit, 14% debt to credit ratio) What would constitute "one undisputed account reported to the credit bureau", to meet requirement #2? edit, any "undisputed accounts" you can think of that would report quickly, like within a week, or two?? (Line 2 just says it has to have reported within the past 6 months, not that it has to have existed for 6 months, or more)
