  1. Just put a new pinion seal in a couple weeks ago. It was on my 87 2.5 with D35 diff. I marked pinion nut before removing. That way when I re-installed, I tightened to that mark. I was told by many to ensure not to over tighten. I also marked position of driveshaft when i disassembled. Not sure if that mattered or not.(this pic was prior to work being done)
  2. In this pic looking at the block the temp sensor is on the right side with a boot and 1 wire running to it. This is an 87 2.5. I did the cluster swap as well and it's good to go.
  3. Hey all hope everyone is doing well. Recently took my Jeep down to my local dealer for an oil leak problem. It's a 2.5 4 speed with 130,000 miles. Told the guy not sure where the leak was coming from as I have recently started replacing old leaking gaskets(rear diff, pinion, valve cover). When I left I told him I hope it was nothing serious, because I couldn't justify a $1000 bill on a $1000 dollar truck!! He called me back later in the day and said it was the rear main seal and this was a common problem with these trucks. He said I know what I told him about the bill but the write up for it was $970. He told me my truck is in way to good condition to get rid of(sell) because of this. My dilemma is this. I've called around and most shops don't even want to deal with this because basically they can't guarantee their work. What I'm looking for is a good write up(searched DIY forum) in order to do this. Thanks for any and all help. It's going to get done soon. Keep Calm and Jeep On!!
  4. Have a 2.5 4 speed. Will this have any adverse effects? Left vac line in place. Swapped out hose going to airbox with a breather.
  5. Just blow it out with carb or brake cleaner?
  6. The replacement worked fine. I seem to be getting blowback from pcv hose back to air box. Is there a better type of connection I can make at cover to avoid oil seepage here? Also cover bolts seem to loosen up after driving awhile. Off to the JY today.Image Not Found
  7. Well recently had problems with valve cover. Problem resolved no more leaks. As usual when one problem is fixed another one rears it's ugly head. Fired up the 2.5 and apparently someone swapped it out over night with a diesel. I am trying to diagnose this eerie sound and found a video on you tube that says the problem is(possibly) caused from a broken piston skirt? The engine has about 130,000 on it and other than a few leaks has ran good. How do I figure out if this is the problem? Drop oil pan and look for any shrapnel? My oil pressure seems good, so I don't think that's an issue. Anything else to check out? If this is in fact the case I won't be looking to rebuild, I will be looking for a 4.0 donor. I will search the forums for a good write up for this project. If I do end up doing this, if I swap a 4.0 with a 5 speed will I also need to take the drive shaft from donor. What is a realistic price I will be looking at spending? I know maybe putting the cart before the horse but I just want to start getting ready to break the news to the wife.. :shake: Not getting rid of this girl just yet...the Jeep silly. :rock on:
  8. Hey all. I have a 87 2.5 4speed. Over the weekend I replaced a few seals. Differential as well as a leaking pinion seal..no big deal. I also figured I might as well address a leaking valve cover gasket, no problem or so I thought. The cover is original hard plastic type. Well I found a gasket and cleaned everything up and replaced it. Got to work the next day and it looked as if I hadn't even put a cover on!!! Oil everywhere. I used the gasket as well as some black rtv. That's when I noticed the cover was cracked in a few spots were the bolts make. I was looking for a replacement cover and ended up at my local Jeep dealer. They have a replacement, plastic as well,(apparently a revised cover) but parts guy said it does not need a gasket. Just bolt it up and good to go. Can this be right? Has anyone replaced their cover? I can't see putting it on without so much as a little rtv. Also is there a torque spec for the cover bolts? Thanks for any input. I truly thought this would be as easy as changing an air filter..wrong!! :fs1:
  9. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthrea...e+cluster+swap This is a step by step write up with pics.
  10. Roger that Eagle. Thanks!
  11. Will do Cruiser!! Thx!
  12. What is the normal range this gauge should read? I've replaced battery and starter both over the past few months(both were going) and my meter reads at the first mark after 9.It sometimes falls a little into the red below that hash mark but not much. If this isn't normal where should I look/check? I have a 87 2.5. Thx for the help. I haven't had any issues starting or with it dying but I want to prevent a possible future problem.
  13. Came up kinda empty handed as well. Perplexed. Thinking the R_ESD, ESD stands for Emergency Services District. R,maybe Rural? Missing letter F? For fire? An article I found said they were first responders to fires and accidents in the 50's from Denver areas. Not sure what the use of an armored car would be with gun ports. It also says Unit 1 on vic which would be a tie in to the emergency services. Probs just a surplus vehicle they purchased to transport equipment..IMO..! Hope someone else can find out more info. Cool find!!
  14. Somewhere there's a title of a country song in all of this. :brows:
  15. Rust Porn...ugh....
  16. Sorry about this. Stumbled across this site the other day. Would have known it was somewhat dated if I would have searched some vehicles. Like the old saying goes.."If something sounds to good to be true, it is."
  17. http://www.salvage-cars-for-sale.info/ Found this site. Just search Jeep Comanche to find salvage vehicles. You can also do it by state location. Maybe a chance to score a donor vehicle.

  19. Semper Fi bro and thanks for your sevice. I EAS'd in 92. It's a bitter sweet feeling. Your gonna miss it for sure, but you know when it's time. Maybe not the day to day grind but the guys that you served with and the ones ya left behind. I ended up joing the Guard(11B) in 2011. Ya an old man, especially a former jarhead, can hang still with these kids. Enjoy your trip and take plenty of pics!!
