Battery voltage was about 12.xx volts.

Great, thanks. I'll give this a shot. Do you know what would cause a low voltage; around 6-7V?
-
So should the starter relay also output 10-11V at the fuel pump terminal? The 'front' of the ballast (closer to radiator) should have 10-11V and the 'back' should have ~6V? There's a yellow wire and orange wire and a black wire. The black is ground and the orange runs from the ballast? What about the yellow? Which wire should have the 10-11V on the FP harness?

89 MJ, 6 cyl. Truck was running but then had an issue where it would run then cut off after a few seconds. Then it wouldn't run at all. On the starter relay, the wires that have the ring terminals shifted and contacted the blade terminal for the fuel pump. Fuel pump is new (put on the the PO) and was running just fine the other day. There is gas in the tank and the engine will run with starter fluid in the intake. Turn key, relay sound like it clicks but no hum from the fuel pump. Zero pressure and no fuel at the fuel rail. There is ~6V at the ballast. The ballast reads at 1.2ohms and I jumped the two wires, bypassing the ballast, and still no dice. There is voltage at the plug at the harness next to the pump itself, but I don't know what the readings should be. 1. What voltages should be at the connector at the FP? 2. Should I wire the pump directly to the battery as a test to see if it runs?

Drove it to work today to test out the cooling system.

Quick: parking brake won't release
bigalpha replied to bigalpha's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Figured it out - assy wasn't connected to parking cables and none of the springs are intact. Have to 'release' the brake and pull the pedal up simultaneously. -
1989, 5 spd. The parking brake is pushed all the way to the floor and the parking brake release lever cable is broken. I tried to push the metal tab in manually but it won't release the brake. Is there a linkage inside the assy that gets stuck?

The trans solenoid in an AW4 is easy peasy to change. The worst part of the whole process is scraping off the 32 gallons of RTV used the the PO.

pics and info on fabbed front bumper
bigalpha replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Those are all nice! But what is the reasoning behind the angled D ring tabs? Just curious, looks "off" compared to the rest of the bumper(s). Looks like there wouldn't be enough room to burn them into the bumper if they were mounted vertically. -
Son breaks rear end..dad fixes
bigalpha replied to brian's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
^This Also, considering the rear axle gear ratio does not match the front, you should double check which transfer case you have. There should be an ID tag on it. Also, for your NP231, you should only have 4 options shown on the shifter bezel (2, N, 4 high, 4 low) (Click for Pic) while the NP242 should have 5 options (2, 4 full, 4 part, N, 4 Low). Of course, the ID tag will be more accurate than the bezel shifter. -

Well if your son was driving home with it in 4WD and it was clanking and stuff - I say let it ride a while longer. What transfer case do you have? Do you have a "Full Time" or "Part Time" option? -
Ah, I friggin' love that movie. Something about complete and utter destruction of the people who screwed him over is so great.

The one with Liam Neeson; so yes, 2008.

I think they mean count the revolutions on the front axle. But, if you have a data tag on the axle housing that should work too. -

I don't think any manual transmissions came with 3.55's, only automatics. Is there a chance the previous owner swapped the axles? None of the 6yl, M/T came with the 3.55's. LINK I didnt see that on that link. The only thing it said was that 93-94 XJ's w/ the tow package got 3.73's. MJ's werent made in 93-94. I think all MJ's with the automatic transmission (AW4) got 3.55's Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this. None of the 6 cylinder engines with the manual transmission are listed as having the 3.55's. -

Good idea! I hadn't even thought of that. My thinking is too linear. -

Correct. Correct, XJ = Cherokee Backhand. -
I'll have to say it sure didn't sound like a 6cyl cherokee.
