I need a set of 4.0L rods for a rebuild, If anyone has a set they want to sell let me know asap. The engine is at the machine shop now and they need a set of rods because mine are the 4.2 rods. I live close to the MIdland area in MIchigan. Thanks!!

I feel your pain, it took months for my paintwork. All I can say is just think of yourself years in the future and forgetting every bad experience you've had, only remembering the good ones. It's hard to do at the time but that's what gets me by sometimes. Good to see it's coming together, I'll bet you can't wait till it's home.

Thanks! Hopefully I'll get the rundown later this week and then it's decision time on how far I want to go with it. Priority one is going to be reliability so no crazy stuff. Every build I read has some change to the valvetrain that causes them to rebuild it after a short time and noise to go along with it. I have to tell you I'm a little nervous about the whole situation.

I have always found the Eagles appealing, unlike most AMC cars, good luck on the build. You'll need a lot of patience!

Soa Front Leaf Conversion, 8"+ Lift
knever3 replied to awc737's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Super Scary! Why do you want so much lift? If it's purely a trail rig and not to be driven on the road I can totally understand. But if you plan on driving it 50mph be prepared for death wobble with that much lift. -
Motor is at the machine shop, probably find out what I am going to put into it later this week. So far number 1 and 6 rod bearings are worn badly as well as the crank journals. Something in the OE build ran through the oil pump and pitted the gears. The valvetrain is fine and straight. The first machine shop said the rockers were all bent again and crooked. Not so when the valve cover was pulled. Seems to think they were just trying to pull my chain! There goes the budget...

3800: Series Two
knever3 replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Bummer... You need to update your sig. Put to rest. :( Maybe someday you'll run across a prestine MJ in your future, but it's going to be hard to yank that motor and install a Buick one at that point. -
Cool story, glad to see you are fixing it up.

Okay, I'll bite. Great job! That's a ton of work to put into any vehicle, you really should just build a complete tube buggy. I can understand though, they are boring because they have no soul. A Jeep Comanche trail rig? Awesome!! That's why you do it! Almost a month of posting before someone noticed and replied! That's just sad... I will do you justice on the build by saying a phenomenal job indeed!

That would be so fun.

Great job getting everything looking like it did under the hood.

So what year was it? Was it really a '59?

This engine block is VERY strong! Some Olds folks use the block because of it's higher nickel content to make a stroker 430cu in small block gas engine with a stroker crank. Not worth the money for a Comanche using an Olds motor and custom grind parts, but whatever suits your fancy. And to add, the stock Diesel motor was underpowered and was garbage for it's size.

Two things: First we had our first baby back in January!! I thought I'd take a few moments to show him what we will be working on and driving in the near future. Second, I have most of everything pulled apart to take the stroker motor to the shop to do a full tear down and inspection. I plan on doing some upgrades to the parts I have already installed on the exterior. Maybe a double roller timing set, a hotter cam, roller rockers... Who knows we'll see how far I want to go. Check back soon, I'll try to document everything that I decide on and maybe ask some questions in the meantime.

Don't forget the rare 4.10 gears!! -
If you haven't found your answer call Belle Tire, they use the Hunter 600 series alignment machine. Their data base will have the specs. Give them a call and they will tell you or give you a copy.

Here are a few just after a little TLC, the stickers and the badges haven't been put back on yet. Loaded down with some junk, I've always liked this pic.

If it's an xls the interior is awesome!

UHaul always has given me grief for towing. If they say you can't tow a double axle trailer with a trailer brake they are full of S$&*#. They are just trying to protect their investment. If the borrower is smart about towing it's not a problem. You should get a trailer brake installed if you don't already have one. Do you have the class 3 hitch? If you only have the class 2 I wouldn't recommend it since they are only rated at 3,500 lbs. If you have a trailer brake installed with a class 3 hitch go elsewhere to rent a trailer, everyone rents them.

"too High To Get It Right" Portal Comanche

Sweet! -
We have had two '06 Hemi GC's. The one the wife rolled on a slushy day and the one we kept is going strong. 14mpg is normal, both got the same mileage. The one thing that bothers me is that 5th gear overdrive doesn't kick in till 62mph too fast for driving anywhere except the highway which I don't ever drive. If it doesn't start the battery cable is loose on the starter. Both trucks did this. Overall it's a great truck!!
