How many vehicles you think he had in there? Rob
-
Already talked to my friend on the inside. The museum as a foundation is dissolving. The collection of cars is just being sold back to corporate. He said they don't plan on selling anything any time soon, and that all this means to him the the Chrysler archives is that he's going to have 67 more cars to look after. He assured me I would be the first to know if any of the MJ's get ready to leave. Rob

Dummy Axle From 2Wd Worth Anything?
Automan2164 replied to darkenfire's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think this is one of those times where this is a truely correct statement: "Only worth as much as someone will pay." If you have someone interested in it, sell it. Like a D35, they aren't very desirable, nor have any specific value to someone unless they need it. Rob -
That's exactly where I was going with it. As for your noises... You said it sounded like metal on metal... Did you check the fan blades for anything goofy or debris? Was there a spray of oil on the underside of the hood that would say it was running with no cap for any length of time? Maybe it fell off before you last parked it. Your oil level, correct, with the right color? Not over filled or under filled? Anything underneath? Rob

I'm going to have to keep my eye out for that one. I have the bronze, which I imagine was handed out everywhere, but I have never seen a gold one. Just think about who's hands that puppy might have been in at AMC... Rob

Xj Overhead Console Temperature Sensor
Automan2164 replied to fiatslug87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The old style console is stupid easy with a wiring diagram. You just need a few wires IIRC. Power, IGN, Ground, Sensor signal, door ajar... I put one in my '91 Elim back in the day. Just don't go searching for the OHC connector harness end in the MJ. I made the mistake of thinking it would be present like most other things, and ended up messing up the TCU diag connector because it worked, but the wires were wrong.. When I got to tech school and was told about the diag connector... It hit me like a sack of bricks. Rob -
Xj Overhead Console Temperature Sensor

Behind the bumper/grille. This is a pic of it on my '97, but it's nearly identical on older XJ's. Rob -

The day after the cage and axles were done, I was in liberty wa, on our annual Jeep Camp trip, ended up rolling the first night out, picked a terrible line on some loose terrain and down I went, was told I went over 6-8 times, bellied up to a couple trees half way down the trail. I've said it before and I'll say it again, all that tube no doubt idly saved mine and my cousins life. What owner loves best about CC : Whats not to love, you're my personal pit crew, research and development team.. I love being able to share my obsession with like minded folks. From nearly stock DD's to guys dumping LS1 v8's in there Comanches, it's pretty awesome to be able to converse with all these people that enjoy these little pickups as much as I do. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome sir. It was a mere month ago when you joined up and started your build thread - what an entrance. Even though you've been building it for awhile, you started the thread from scratch, and detailed all the steps along the way. Your build quality is superb, and very thought out. The work you had done with the cage is amazing. That center console you fabbed up is a work of art. It's great that you could come in and share your truck with the group. I am sure I will not be the only one when I say that I can't wait to see what is in store. Keep us posted. Enjoy the spotlight. Rob Click here to view the article

Started when I was 15 with the purchase of an '86 Comanche, fell hard into it, had a ton of parts and trucks. Was hot and heavy for a few years, discovered tech school, girls, and a Cummins diesel. Sold all of my parts and my trucks off when I was 18/19 to a member. Played with the Cummins for a couple years, blew the Cummins up and couldn't afford another. Co-worker had a '91 Cherokee for cheap that needed work. Bought that, and fell hard again. I'm 26 now. Good to be back. Rob :D

I can't get enough of this truck. Rob

Thanks for the comments guys. I am a bit crazy when it comes to the MJ stuff, and MJ related stuff. So much of it has come with either horse trading, cheap, or easy to grab kind of deals though. I think Will described it best once... Cab vents, tailgates, tail lights, dome lights, seat brackets, emblems, etc, all come off with little or no tools. If I see an MJ in a yard, it all comes home with me. I'm always on Craigslist, eBay, here, other forums, trolling for interesting stuff. Some members point things out for me, like the turbo diesel badges. They were just under a generic listing, but one of our members knew enough to know they were special, and told me. Thank god he did. As for sharing it, I would rather share what kind of stuff is out there though rather than keep it under lock and key. So much of my excitement and passion comes from strolling through places with old Jeep/AMC nuts and them letting me touch, tickle, and wiggle everything. What good is it to just hide it? All these items are meant to be seen and on display. I love having MJ'ers over and letting them root through everything. A lot of what I have isn't even pictured... The short list of stuff not on the net would be some of my dealer promo stuff, spares/extras of the stuff I posted, posters, factory service manuals, common MJ parts that I didn't take a pic of that were hard to get to... All the pics I posted were of things that came up in a thread in the past. I just strolled through the albums and copied the ones that applied to the thread. Where do I put it all? It's tough. I live in a duplex, in town. I have half a yard, a 2 car garage, and a shed. I get ideas, and make it work. The shed is full, but I try to keep it somewhat organized. I only ever have one MJ in the garage, so the couch is in there, as well as some of the bigger stuff. I installed an attic ladder in the garage attic, so I have drop down/walk up access to all my parts up there. Anything that I can carry goes up there. There is some stuff up there that I probably shouldn't have carried up also. My downstairs is finished, so I have a room where I keep my overflow that I want to turn into an office. I try to get creative with some of it too. I have the couch, the bedside is going to get hung on the wall or under the bar, going to make a coffee table out of a gate, hang the rest in a grid for wall art, and it goes on. Back when I lived with my mom in high school, she had to put up a shed just to curtail my collection. As for the beneficiaries... Pete and I pretty much have each other covered. That said, there are 2 other members would would get a phone call after Pete. Anytime anyone is in the area of Northern IL, my doors are always open, stop by, and you just might leave with some stuff. Rob

Tough call... It would really depend on condition at that point. Is it something that is above average? Or could you wait and one pop up locally? Do they have anything else going for them besides clean and HO? D44's, options, packages... It all factors in, for myself at least. Rob
-
How far are we talking?
-
Depends on the MJ. Rob
-
It's bad. Really bad. Really bad. The only good thing is that if you come over, and I am in one of my moods... You will leave with as much as you can carry. Pat does it to me when I go over there... I do it to everyone when they come over. One of those, "You have one of these? Now you do. I don't need it..." kind of moods. I have an open trailer full of oddball stuff and doubles that I can't bring myself to trash. Bumpers, dashes, running boards, interior stuff... It's helped a few people out in a pinch here and there so it just never made it to the dump. Rob

Random collection of rare TD books. NOS Turbo Diesel Badges. The Diesel itself is a bit o' MJ porn. The Fridge. Hidden Winch bumper. Factory LWB rollbar. Black interior, one of many in the attic. The MJ couch. The various flags. The fluid sentinel... That answers the "I wonder what would have been under the clock" question... Handful of these. Shop radio. RC MJ. Big Ton glass. NOS SWB Bedside. MJ Desk. During a garage clean out... Cab fairing, sliders, lighted/non lighted visors, gates, factory LWB bed mats. Look real closely on top of the cab fairing... See that bar? That is a factory option to put 4 lights on top of an MJ roll bar. It has notches that engage the tabs on the factory bar, and then 4 holes for lights across the top. More Interior. More black interior, couple LWB Bed mats. There is the LWB roll bar, MJ D44, SWB gas tank skid. Factory plow. Tails, and this isn't even all of them... Couldn't fit them all in one pic. Domes, same thing as the tails applies. Few badges. Some of the various dealer stuffs... Service Decal. Oh, the laserdiscs. There is a lot more... These are just some of the pics I have up on the net. One of these days I will display things nicely in my downstairs man cave more appropriately... 10 years of collecting MJ stuff adds up to quite the pile. It's hard for me to turn down things when people find them and I know I can make room/find funds. Most of it isn't going anywhere, but it's not to say if someone wanted to trade something really MJ weird, that I might consider moving some product. Rob

If I remember correct, it will bolt up fine, but some with interfere with one of the cab supports that stretch from the framerail to the rocker. In the past, members have just notched the mount or the member, depending on how bad the overlap is. Rob
