  1. It might be pretty hard to find lift shackles. Ours are already pretty long to start. While I am not saying they don't exist, I am just saying wouldn't suprise me your hacing trouble finding them. Rob L.
  2. Eh. I used to get pissed off about money, and I used to get real "lippy" for loss of a better word. Hence the reason the HR lady at work doesn't like me anymore. We tried to go union (Contractors Local 150, Public Sector) and HR had an emergency mandatory intervention with the entire public works department. Someone brought up how HR gets more money because they are "professionals", I got hot, and stood up and said in the middle of 200 people, and said "Well you forgot to give me my raise. Doesn't seem very professional to me." Two weeks later, I got my raise, a $40 gift certicicate to the chamber of commerce, and a backhanded sorry card that started with "Sorry during my tenure (9 years) I have made a mistake. Thanks for bringing it to my attention." :ack: Still working there, Still not union, :fs1: But better believe I have been getting my raises on time. ;) "Take this job and shove it, I ain't working here no more..." Too many non-producers in the world. Have HR people who have assistants, who have assistants. In my eyes, my skill as a fleet mechanic is just as professional as your pencil-pushers. If not more than some. I have a degree and go to training all the time to keep up on my trade. Too many white collars these days. Who says wearing a blue collar isn't a living... Thats all i have ever worn. :USAflag: Rob L.
  3. Unfortuneatley, I have a "personal" connection to the detriot red wings... Thanks to the girlfriend. Due to that reason, I hope they get creamed. :fs1: Rob L.
  4. :dunno: Eh, no worries. I have been looking at everything. The 3.5" Flex LCA's are the same PN as the 5.5" Flex LCA's.... So I have that. And the sway bar discos. Its not all bad. I also have the HO wiring and a spare AX15, 231, and a good set of BFG ATs. And the rest of the crap to part out when I am done. I think I have a set of 1.75 spacers for the front I could just add to the 3.5 to bring the front of the MJ up to 5.25". Then all I need is the UCA's, Trackbar, new ball bearing joints(to rebuild the lowers) and I should be right where I need to be with the rear SOA. I think I have heard I can run the stock Rear d/s with the SOA, and the front? Anyway. I think as of the moment, I just need a lower milage HO 4.0L to replace the tired 285,000 Mile :ack: HO in the XJ when I swap everything over to the '90 MJ. I would consider tossing a rebuild kit at the 4.0L, but I'd rather not screw anything up. Plus I don't have the t-guages, mictrometers, and hones to correctly measure and replace bearings. Still have the '96 with the 4.10's sitting underneath in the garage :brows: . So the short list of stuff to complete my build: Newer 4.0L HO UCA's Trackbar Shocks Spring perches for rear Driveshaft(s)? I think I am > Rob L.
  5. Tires are 31" BFG AT's. Rob L.
  6. Just playing around with the fleet, and took my $400 XJ to work and gave 'er a look over. Greased it up, and soaked everything with some penetrant. Got to get it ready for the dismantling. But I discoed the swaybar, courtesy of the RE disco's  , and ran it up the island behind public works. (I know, looks lame, not enough of an angle) Took some pics with my camera phone(ULTRA suprised at the quality, I was expecting them to be the size of a dime), here they are: So here's the big question.... What size lift do you guys think this has? The PO swore up and down that he had the 5.5" lift. He said the shop manager where he worked ordered it, and just told RE that "He wanted everything to make it a 6" lift". List of things I found underneath: (All RE stuff) Lower Super Flex Control arms(have the ball joint) Sway Bar disco's New spring Packs in the rear Springs up front Shocks all the way around Steel Braided Brake line in the rear? Extended bumpstops The sway bar, track bar, upper arms, all look to be stock. I know the 5.5" came with all of that. He did say he put it on about 2 years ago, but I would imagine things would be the same. Something tells me, that although he said 6", the RE site has a 3.5" kit, and the contents look similar to what is on the jeep. I just think it sits a little too tall to just be a 3.5" :dunno: Any opinions or thoughts? Rob L.
  7. I love the Audi's. I am also a big VW fan. Might be because my mom is off the boat german. :dunno: I would say the audi. If i needed a car and had the money, I would be shooting for a TDI jetta. Awesome car. What about some other american AWD's? I think there is some AWD chryslers... Rob L.
  8. I would save money, but there are just too many jeeps to be bought. So little time. :brows: Its an addiction, I just wish I could stop buying Jeeps long enough to afford to move into a place with some land. Then I could buy even more jeeps without having to sell the ones I have to make room! Yes! I have already told my GF, that if we get land where some stuff can sit, we are in trouble. But I'm picking jeeps short-term... Long terms goals can wait. I am more instant gratification. Rob L.
  9. Care to elaborate? :D Rob L.
  10. Its a vacuum storage canister. Works kinda like a tank on a air compressor, and has excess vacuum. It is necessary for anything that runs on vacuum power. THe one on my '91 cracked, and took out the 4x4 and the HVAC stuff. Only had defrost. Rob L.
  11. No, not really. Drop the trans, and in the center of the flywheel, there is a recession that holds the bearing. They are usually pressed in, so you might have to work to get it out, but it is the least labor intensive out of the bearings. A pilot bearing noise will also go away when you are in neutral (clutch depressed or not), or when you are in gear with the clutch out. Only time it really howls is when the input shaft is stationery(won't move when the trans is in gear) and the flywheel is spinning. It goes away while driving(usually), because the clutch is holding the input shaft and the flywheel at the same speed(with the clutch out), hence no difference in rotation to make the bearing howl. Still sound right? Rob L.
  12. Thats my kind of loophole. ;) Rob L.
  13. Is it doing any of the ones i posted? Specifically? Rob L.
  14. :agree: All possibilities. I would know what it could be besides some fried contacts or a bad wire. Rob L.
  15. I would say, sell the truck, and find a 4.0L... They aren't rare by any means, just keep a keen eye to craigslist. That way you can have a solid project to start from. Just me, but thats the way i'd go with it. Ship it, buy a new one. Rob L.

    My first MJ

Bad news. They are generally pretty weak, and expensive to repair. Start looking for an AX15... Rob L.
  17. Never liked the waggy front ends, but I must say, I am warming up... Nice! Rob L.
  18. :fool: Yep, shoulda known that. Rob L. :rotf:
  19. Can you hear the injectors "tapping" with a stethescope? Maybe you have one thats stuck open? Rob L.
  20. Yeah, I know, but the tools were about 50 ft. from the truck, and it was up on the lift at the time. I take it there was a lot of: " Holy crap! OH GOD! OH GOD! OH GOD!, What do I do?!?! Jeez! :grrrr: Oh man!" ** **All while running in circles around the truck. Been there, you'lll figure it out. No worries mate. We are here to help. ;) Rob L.
  21. I would start by isolating the circuit on a diagram, and taking connections out of the loop. Maybe you shorted a contact, or short to power somewhere. By isolating each part of the circuit, you can find the area(s) at fault. Rob L.
  22. Common Clutch area noises: Throw-out bearing: While clutch is depressed (Bearing that presses the clutch when you press down) Pilot bearing: Transmission in gear, clutch depressed (Bearing located in the flywheel, holds the tip of the input shaft) Pocket bearing: Noise in all gears, except your 1:1, usually 4th. Goes away when clutch is depressed. (Bearing located in the back of the input bearing, to hold up the main shaft) :dunno: Rob L.

    Home Audio

In the garage, I have a busted walmart stereo I "borrowed" from my girlfriend. Takes a little shuffling sometimes to get the tunes right, but every once and awhile, I plug in the MP3 player in the car radio, and broadcast it to the wallyworld stereo. :dunno: Gets me by. Rob L.
