I too once have the chance, even found out I worked with the original owners son after the fact. Anyway. according to the classic car values... Low $2,700 Mid $6,200 High $9,300 But personally, I wouldn't go above $2,000 unless its immaculate. Rob L.

Chalk another one up for us midwesterners. (GOT PICS!)

Yep, the floor is through on the d/s, p/s still good. But on second look, its oil. Looks like they had something with oil on the cubby there, and its working its way down to the floor. And I found a few empty bottles of 20w-50 behind the seat... :fs1: Better not be what he was putting in there. Rob L. -

Yeah, just have to figure out why the hell its misfiring, and if its a manifold leak or if the head gasket is bad. Found out on the way home too, that the ol' guy doesn't like uphill grades. I think all the oil spewing out of the valve cover toasted the clutch :dunno: . Slippin a bit. Cruising at 55-60 though, rides like a cloud. I hope to build it up right. This non-H.O. 4.0L is a different beast than I'm used to. There is a lot of funky crap going with all of those vacuum lines, and coolant ran to the bottle. Weird. Its got a weird shield over the intake/exhaust runners... I had a thrown rod non ho a long long time ago :ack: , and i pulled it for a HO, so this is uncharted territory. But that cab is great. I get all warm and fuzzy inside when I see solid cab corners  . Think the winshield is leaking. Keep having a puddle form on the PS floor. Should have offered him $100. :brows: Rob L. -

Bump, pics posted. :typing: Rob L. -
Welcome, but beware of the addictive nature of this beast. I mean, take a closer look at some of our signatures. It only starts with one. ;) Good to have you here. Rob L.

Pics, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. I'm working on it. Just was too excited to wait until tomorrow. Friggen G/F's camera takes the one size memory card that doesn't work on anything at the house. As for the cap... :dunno: Rob L. -
Just bought my Sixth MJ. (lifetime). Just test drove and bought a 1990 LWB 4x4 4.0L AX15. Grey, solid cab corners  , non-saggin headliner :clapping: , cloth bench with vinyl floor. Bed has the normal rust over the wells, but the cab looks solid with exception of D/S footwell, which I can deal with. Runs like dog sh!+.... You can feel it is a cylinder or two down. Mess of broken vacuum lines, possibly a cracked manifold, and just covered in oil from all of the vacuum lines spewing about :ack: . But, it does run, and is very workable. 4x4 works good, and it moves around great. Great interior. Very clean inside. Outside needs work. But, I can't complain, as I now join the ranks of the screaming deals on the IL WI border. Picked 'er up for $200. Score! Pics to come, bringing it home tomorrow. Its an addiction. :shake: Rob L. Not bad for two hundred bucks, eh? 'edit' Just had to add the price.

Thanks again rich. Your build up page was really helpful also. I was tossing up a SWB or LWB, but yours looks great. Pete, Yeah, I know the 27 spline isnt the best, but I was just looking for something to get me by. Step over the 35, figure i'll wheel it 'til it breaks, and upgrade later. I was pretty much sold on the RE stuff too. Just wanted to make sure I looked at it from all angles. Thanks again, Rob L.

Thanks Drahcir. I am just getting opinions at this point. Basically, if I buy the kit, and just want get it going with that, am i going to need to suppliment anything, or is the kit it? Well, here are some specific q's i guess. I'll post them here rather than PM, so everyone can see. 1. What are you running for driveshafts? 2. I see you have 4.56's and 33's, happy with the gearing? I have a 297 D30, and 27 8.25 with 4.10's I plan on using. 3. Anything else needed besides what comes with the kit to complete the lift? 4. Anything you would change? 5. Anyone have any qualms with my axle setup I am reaching for(for running 33's)? Thanks, Rob L.
-
Yeah, I would be interested to see more. It looks like those 33" meats are a little stuffed under there :dunno: . Would you change tire sizes? Maybe a 31 or 32? I take it that is your truck. Anything else you did to it besides the RE kit? SYE, CV DS... Satisfied with how it turned out? Looks good  . Sorry for the q's. Just want to be sure I have all the ducks in a row. Thanks again, Rob L.

I like the idea, but there is no smilies guy turining empty pockets inside out... but if there were, it would be in my avatar. :dunno: I am looking into a '90 LWB 4.0L AX15 4x4 at the moment. See what I can do. Needs a bed for sure if i get it though. Rob L.

Anyone have some pics of MJ's with the 5.5 RE lift? I am planning on using it, but can only find 2-3 comanches through google and cardomain with them on... Also, if you have the lift installed, any probs, things you would change, or stuff you did in addition to the lift? Just any info on the lift/stuff is appreciated. Thanks. Rob L.

Whew, pretty clean. I've got that factory plow on my 88, killed the stock springs. Also wished the mounting system wasnt the way it is. Be nice to get all that crap off of the truck in summer. I just don't like those two bars hangin out on the bumper. Rob L.

I wish I could find these deals... :fs1: . Look in a five state radius on CL everyday for that elusive '92 Eliminator 4x4 ax15. Thats my unicorn. Eh, oh well. Congrats on the find. I can't seem to get into the HO's down here in IL... Rob L.

comanche body lift?
Automan2164 replied to jeep89comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My boss and a couple of guys i work with swear by body lifts. I think anything over a 1 inch looks ridiculous, as they are all rocking 3 inchers, and could drive a mack truck through the frame and body gaps they have created. Ugly as hell. My bosses' only excuse is he wanted a true 3" of lift, plus his tires, and he only had fragments to spare in garage height. He pulled it off ok IMO. Gap guards, bumper relocates... Rest of the guys I work with are just plain idiots. Rob L. -
If you haven't read my signature yet, stick or auto? If auto, baby it until you get a new t/c and valve body. I actually blew up the t/c so bad i locked the tires up for a split second doing 60. Bent every shaft. Good truck though. 295K miles. 800 Ft lb of torque. Expensive as all get out to maintain. I too left the MJ for the fuel oil burner. Blew it up, now i am back. Good luck. Rob L.

what axles came in a 87 jeep comanche
Automan2164 replied to Oldred87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: it helps any, I have an '88, same setup. With exactly that. Even counted the teeth to make sure. Forgot to add. Check if the axle id tags are still there, if they are, go here> http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Sus ... Ratios.htm Scroll down to find yournumber code and match it. 95% sure what the tag says, thats what you got. Rob L. -
While i am a fan of mopars, and styles of them. IMO a cowl hood looks mean on the MJ/XJ and would provide more functionality, IE lower underhood temps, as well as a possible air intake option. Rob L.

Lol, yeah. It takes a strong stomach sometimes to be a FF/emt. I had to cut a couple dead guys out of a car last saturday. But on a better note, I do get to play with some cool toys and destroy stuff. Nothing is more fun than cutting up a car/destroying a building in the name of learnin' ;) . I have some pics in the "who am I talking to" post. none action tho. Just me in uni. And the public works thing is a constant on call. You wouldn't think the fleet mechanics would be, but if a gen goes down or a dump breaks on a main break, things get messy quick. And Will knows how bad i used to be. But I am currently on the fast track to "Is that the house from sanford and son?" Not really, but I am running out of places to put this stuff! Rob L.

Will send PM. Hey, on-call? Public works, Fire rescue? I'm representing both Public Works and the Flame quenchers... Rob L.

I too, once was in your position. 2 MJ's at mom's house, One behind the neighbors, a garage full of parts, a 10x10 shed full of parts, and 2 camper shells with engines and axles sitting strewn about. One Mj didnt have an engine, one didn't have a clutch, and my pride and joy had gotten hit by a guy, shortly after spending way too much on a paint job that was worth half of what i paid. I pulled the trigger. Sold the clutchless MJ on ebay, sold the engineless MJ locally, and sold all of my parts and t-boned MJ to a comancheclub member. Took my cummins ram and ran off into the sunset. Spent two years away, Blew up the trans on the ram,(got re-bitten by the bug :fs1: ) and now I have an mj worth half of the one i had(wish i had it back  ). Not only that, but I have none of the cool parts/extra gadgets I had collected in my MJ phase. Rollbars, pushbars, cab fairings, extra buckets, clusters, wheels, etc... Now I am back, looking around, wondering who all of these stinking new guys are ;) and digging a hole faster than i can fill it up. i wished I could slap myself back then. Sell all of the rif-raf, and kept my Eliminator. Sure it needed work, but it was in better shape than any i can find in the rust belt. Should have just kept it and sat on it until i could do it right. Glad to be back. Words of the wise, sell the stones, keep the diamonds left in the rough. (Sell the crap, keep the truck(s).) Oh, and before you decide to toss anything else away, keep in mind you have a neighbor just across the border :brows: , and I'm not to cool to dumpster dive. :chillin: Rob L.

Well, here goes nothing: All the way on the left: After the Salem, WI water fight competition: Driving the Float in the Harvard, IL milk days parade: No action shot, kinda hard for someone to take pictures while there are dangerous things a brewing. Been in a few local papers sifting through crime scenes, but i don't have a scanner to upload. Rob L.
