  2. I also had this problem on my old metric ton once. Turned out that the radio was getting a bad ground. The truck was a radio-delete from factory, so the PO put one in and mounted an antenna. He didn't ground it right, and everytime the antenna would shift, it would crackle out, and shut down the radio. I added a grounding wire from the radio body to the metal frame of the dash by the ash tray, and wit went away. Rob L.
  3. Looks like a bumper from an S-10 or Blazer. Rob L.
  4. Clicky the link to me Eliminator in my Sig. That's the factory green. It a dark metallic. Rob L.
  5. Rob, What is the earliest known 86 you have seen? I know you can tell by the last six numbers in the VIN how early or late it is. The vin on Betty has me wondering if she might be an extremly early 86, 1JTHL6517GT003550 I think that means she is the 3550 truck off the line in 86. :hmm: Could be Bo. Call the dealer and see if the parts department can shoot you a date of Mfr. Also, I have found holes in the serial number thing, some don't match up in chronological order. But, another thing to note is I was told that the MJ/XJ's shared assy lines, and serial number sequences... So even though you might have a 3550, you might only be the 100th MJ off the line, since they made so many XJ's. Rob L.
  6. Sounds good Ben, but why not make it a round number, lets say $25, and kick a little towards you for your time? Rob L.
  7. Ben, as you already know, I'm in. I'm just glad you decided to do this... I was going to, but I think your PhotoShop skills beat my paint skills all day. The sample months look great. I have my money waiting when your ready. Rob L.
  8. We have quite a few older members on here... One of whom is an avid skydiver... Rob L.
  9. Guess my question would be how do you find an MJ with that much crap done to it, and NOT stick around to talk to the owner? Rob L. :dunno:
  10. What did the window banner say? Looks like a website... And if that were a member, I'd have recognized the truck, unless they are a lurker... But that thing looks new... Rob L.
  11. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26975 Rob L. :D
  12. Sorry man, but you really, really, reeeeeaaaalllllly need so slow down. I pride myself on being able to decipher rough handwriting, and poor grammar, and I had one hell of a time decrypting your post. And There are still a few mysteries... I need to go lay down now. Rob L.
  13. thanks and yea i know, I'm planning to get 35-36" tires asap after buy the rear brakes. What gears do those Ford axles have in them? Rob L.
  14. Think thats a member. IIRC, his son blew out the D35... Rob L.
  15. WHY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Rob L. :(
  16. Wasn't there something else of importance you scrapped? Maybe a certain rare pickup? Rob L. :D
  17. They don't like it when you eat the brownies. Rob L.
  18. Not bad. My mom had hers go out, and she replaced it with a Bosch Tankless unit. Really cool. On demand hot water, and it never runs out. Rob L.
  19. I was in the Boyscouts, went to the national jamboree in D.C., went on a boundary waters trip... Learned TONS of valuable life lessons. Many of which I use today, and would rely on in times of need. Unfortunately, I only made it to life before buying my first car. Once I got that baby it was over with, and I lost track/attention of the scouts. The first car you ask? An '86 MJ. So... Basically, although I didn't make it to Eagle, I made it to moderator. Rob L. :D
  20. Pete, that's like strengthening a tank. :D The Grand Marquis (aka known as Crown Vics) had and have one of the best crash test ratings ever. Of course, more metal in the rear end sure won't hurt anything. remember that issue '95+ cop cars were having with higher speed rear end collisions? BOOM! exploding gas tank. The chances of a high speed rear end collision is low, but the hitch was all of 20 bucks, and I figure it can't hurt. :D The issue was all of the crap in the trunk. On all police package CV's, there is a police "Trunk pack" that consists of a plastic insert that takes up the whole trunk, and inbetween the interior and the trunk, they affixed a kevlar shield. In the trunk, and on the dash, there are placards advising of "lateral" placement of all sharp and rigid equipment in the trunk. The tank is actually buried behind the lower portion of the rear seat. Rob L.
  21. Be sure to check all the sensors before axing the trans... They are known to be a bit finnicky when they get some bad sensor info, and will act funny. I just talked to a guy this weekend who bought a ZJ for $300 because the trans was stuck in second, he replaced a $50 sensor, and drives it everyday. Rob L.
  22. I love my ZJ: It's a '98 4.0L 42RE NP249... 140K. It's on its second set of axles due to some problems with the front. I think it was caused by an unbalanced front driveshaft that wallowed out the seal and blew the fluid out on a 100 mile drive... So it was cooked. I used that as an opportunity to snag a D30/D44HD (alum) with 3.73's. The rear ended up having spun carrier races, so that got changed to a 3.73 D35, and now the front is making noise with excessive backlash. So, I have another D30 in the wings waiting with u-joint shafts, and nice backlash. The 249 bit the dust when I bought it, and I pulled the front shaft after the axle incident. I have a 242 in the garage waiting for me to get to the axle and get everything swapped at once. Overall, its been a really nice Jeep, and very trouble free. It doesn't ask much of me. The biggest pain in the butt has been the constant messing with the axles, but they are easy in, easy out. No biggie. But the bells and whistles... Boy howdy... Keyless, sunroof, radio controls in the steering wheel... Pssh. Never knew I needed controls in the wheel, but I miss them when I rock the MJ... Good luck with the new purchase. If I could do it all over, I'd be pulling for a 5.9 also. Rob L.
  23. Ding ding ding! Believe me, no harm meant. I am just trying to save you the trouble. By the time you get, buy, make all the parts to make it work, you'll be above what you'd have had into a 4.0 swap. Where as if you get the 4.0, you can just unbolt all the parts you need from the junkyard or a donor... cheap. Rob L.
