  1. Finished patching the floor and piller today. Installed some insulation, a bracket for the center console and will be installing a new vinyl carpet tomorrow, with seats etc.
  2. I have an 87 also, when mine did what you described it turned out to be a bad O ring on one of the injectors, which caused a vacuum like leak and made it run like poo
  3. Gutted the interior (except the dash). Found Rust, cleaned, prepped and ready to patch and paint. Carpet order, seat swap in work, center console painted. I also purchased some fancy home depot insulation to help with sound deadening. It is getting cold out, so everything should take longer to dry/cure. Also purchased new wheels and tires.
  4. Bought some new steel rims, painted them, will mount tires this weekend and swap out my rusty ones.
  5. I went down to Ace harware and grabbed a metric "anchor" nut. It is a barrel nut with a platform that has 3 serrated tangs in it for holding the barrel portion into what ever medium you drive it into. The nut was 49 cents, pounded that into a universal shift knob and installed. It doesnt seem to be subject to the heating/shrinking issue that killed my OEM knob and has lasted a couple of years.
  6. Missed his link, yes that is exactly it. I got mine at autozone. Not too expensive.
  7. I use a needle adapter fitting for flush zirks, works good.
  8. Not to be ingnorant, but what is the difference in the brake scheme between a CAD/Non CAD axle? I just never noticed.
  9. I just went to NAPA and got a new bearing pressed into original pully. Cost me around $8
  10. Dang, that is one clean garage! where is all the stuff? Nice writeup though.
  11. scratch that, they share a common ground. Power to the #2 injector comes from Pin A3 from the ECU connetor. Stick a light to that, crank the engine, if no pulse than I agree to check the ECU.
  12. I have the fuel injection manual for the renix system. It suggests to check the ground circuit to the injector that does not flash when a test lamp is attached while cranking. Still looking for the schematic that illustrates where that ground is.
  13. Heck, your floors look good! I have seen way worse on my due to the fact the mat has been torn for several years and I have tried to dilligently ignore it for as long as possible.
  14. Pete; Is there any where that we could post some of the PDF manuals that people have amassed? I have located and downloaded several from different sources over a period of time for my '87 that have been useful. Especially when determining interchangeability between XJs and MJs when shopping at the bone yard.
  15. I did a check in my electrical troubleshooting manual for the 88 comanche. It only shows the ballast resistor on the 4.0 engine fuel control schematic only.
  16. don't know who owns it, but nice none the less.
  17. I have had mine for too long now to consider trading it in. I still average 22MPG on the highway and it still has been more reliable than some of the newer cars I own. My 87 'manche WAS the last new vehicle I ever bought off a lot. Everything since has been used.
  18. Half the crap coming out of this congress makes no sense. I am at a loss on these vehicles. Doesnt the amount of credit depend on the ratio of the fuel milage from the trade in to what they buy?
  19. The front axle on the donor is still a D30. Nothing too exotic, just would have matching gears.
  20. Tried to knock the rust of passenger side door :brows: now there is a hole :fs1: Good news is, i have an excuse to get a new welder.
  21. they did offer to put it over on a pedestal and assist in the removal, and I am sure the price may be somewhat negotiable. This yard is higher than others in the area, but the jeep section hasn't picked through as bad. I will let you all know if I can get the price down. May be why it is still there.
  22. I don't know about the '86, but changing the pump on my 87 only took about an hour with an aftermarket pump. It did not require any modification other than a large hose clamp to keep it in place and puts out about 35psi at the injector rail. Also a good idea to buy a new filter screen for the pump inlet after sitting that long. If it still had gas in it after sitting that long there is probably some sludge in the bottom of the tank also.
  23. Went to the boneyard this morning and found a 1987 cherokee chief, 4.0 auto with a D44 rear axle. Couldnt get to a tag as the gas tank was hanging down, no tires on the vehicle and I would only fit under there if I was still 10 years old. The yard wants $250 for the axle; good price? Would that engine/trans combo mean 3.55 gearing? I currently have 3.07 gearing on my 87, but the front axle is also there but missing the front cover. place closes at noon on saturdays; guess I can go back during the week and count the splines and pick this up maybe offer 350 for the set. Regards
  24. I had them, and wish I could find another set. great tire.
  25. :agree: It is one of the reasons I really think about what I type :typing: (spelling, grammer etc.)
