  1. :clapping: Thanks guys! this is one reason I really like this site. quick answers to questions.
  2. I knew about the perches and shock locations, but I have the tools, skills and time to pull the guts out for the swap if need be. just no welder/nor skill to redo the perches. closest friend with those skills is about 75 miles away.
  3. Rock auto seems to have the rubber for a pretty good price. www.rockauto.com
  4. I was wondering, do all the cherokee axles start with a ratio of 3:55? I have an opportunity to get a donor vehicle for a couple hundred bucks and was considering swapping auto tranny and axle gears for an upgrade. Currently running stock 87 with 4.0 and the Pugeot tranny with 3:07 ratio's. And for Pete, I know it isnt an upgraded axle, but I don't have a welder handy to convert perchs and I have only found cherokees (lots of them) in the boneyards around these parts. thanks
  5. I like Pete's reply, but when mine did that it was due to a broken vacuum line to the driveshaft disconnect from the transfer case causing it to hang up. Not sure why though :(
  6. Thanks for all the help! I have owned the truck forever and am now in the process of restoring it, but changing the look a little.
  7. Hi, I am debating on a budget lift for my truck. What rear shackles are direct bolt ins that I can locate in a bone yard that would get me an inch or two? 1987 LWB. I can make spacers for the front. I searched the site and could not find anything with specifications that were not related a specific lift kit manufacturer.
  8. I bought my "87 " 4.0 L without A/C, the bracket part number for this is [5300 2904 BRACKET, Idler Pulley Mounting - w/o Air Conditioning]. It has an additional idler pulley. Sorry, I don't have a picture hosting site, so I can't post one for you. Doubtful that you could find one in the bone yard, chrysler has it listed for $61
  9. Where did you get it? I'm looking to do the same thing I picked it up at a local Jeep only 4x4 specialty shop. this version was built to accomodate lifted trucks and is adjustable. It is a lot thicker than that of the OEM and is greasable where the bolt attaches to the frame.
  10. Tried to install the cluster set that i picked up in the junkyard only to find out the speedometer is not the same hook-up :fs1: Will have to go back to the doner vehicle to see if the cable is the same set-up/type.
  11. For the record, my 1987 4X4 comanche was delivered from the dealer without a steering stabilizer, I had to purchase that seperately. Every time I have had DW, it has been the track bar. Over the years the mount on the frame "hogged out" enough that the factory style would no longer fit tight (it is coned slightly like a tie rod end). I ended up buying a heavy duty aftermarket style (same price as OEM), drilled out the mount to accomodate a massive 9/16" bolt and have not had problems since.
  12. Hi, I am new to this group, but not new to the Comanche. I have owned mine since new (87). This Tech page has been a wealth of information and came in handy yesterday when my truck suddenly stopped running. I made it a mile down the road when the engine cut out (no fuel). Towed it home, switched trucks to go to work. Spent an hour last night reading old posts on stalling engines and FINALLY found out what that dang ballast resistor was for. Mine apparently cracked in half yesterday after 22 years of hard use. Followed the instructions in the post, jumpered the two wires and Voila, truck runs. Part on order and will be in tomorrow.
