Several trans questions
Strokermjcomanche replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Eagle . I understand that ^^ much and was hoping that someone that may have done this swap before would shed some light on what clutch they used or problems they had etc etc . I'd like to have all parts in my possession or at least enough parts that I can bolt the trans and tcase before I start taking the truck apart . I apologize for not being clear . I hope I'm not overthinking this . Thanks again Eagle -
Several trans questions
Strokermjcomanche replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well I scraped the ax15 swap and picked up a nv3550 out of a 02 Tj to put in with 89k for 500 . He gave me the trans mount and bracket and transfer case linkage as well so at least I have something to modify if I need to . So here is yet more questions : What clutch will I use ? The one for the Tj or the Mj /xj with a ax15 ? The splines and diameter of each clutch are the same from what I can tell but I won't be sure what the bolt pattern of the Tj clutch plate is to match the renix flywheel until the old trans is out . I'm sure that I'll have to use the throw out bearing from the Tj , but would like to know which clutch to purchase ahead of time . The pilot bearing seems to be the same between the two trans with 1.055 O.D. And a 7.50 I.D and is included in the Tj clutch kit 1890-05 . I've read on a post that the nv3550 is an inch shorter than the ax15 ? So that means a custom/ shortened front driveshaft or the ax15 shaft or Peugeot shaft will work ? Thanks in advance for the help advice . -

Severe rust on drive shaft

Is there a difference between the dry output shaft with the rubber boot on the newer Xjs vs the shaft with the rear output seal on the older ones ? -
Crankshaft advice

Scat makes a crank with the correct snout just for that purpose . I should have the number in my paperwork . -
Thanks Don , I wasn't sure . In that case I have a badly rusted drivers side window I'd sell the latch from or the whole window . $10 + shipping for the handle or 20 plus shipping for the whole window frame and all .

R12 to R134A Conversion
Strokermjcomanche replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's also worth noting that the 134a system runs at a higher pressure than a r12 system and in some cases the hoses need to be changed with barrier hose . You will only need to put 70-80% of the recommended r12 amount with 134 a . -
R12 to R134A Conversion

You need to replace the receiver / drier , which is the cylinder located by the alternator with the sight glass on top of the cylinder . You also need to replace the expansion valve which is the block located where the 2 AC hoses connect at the firewall .Buy some AC flush before putting the new parts on and pour the flush in the rest of the AC system , follow the directions as to how long to leave the flush in then blow it out with an air gun . As far as the new compressor goes it will have a small amount of oil in it but not enough for the entire system and you or the AC shop will have to add more . When replacing all the orings make sure you coat the orings with the PAG oil ( refrigerant oil ) . The AC shop will run a vacuum test to make sure it does not have a leak before filling with refrigerant and PAG oil. -

Ax15 vs nv3550 ? Pro's and Cons ?
Strokermjcomanche replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did you have to make clearance in the floor for the tcase ? What would you think about putting the nv3550 in? -
I recently purchased an external slave ax15 with 231 tcase out of a yj for a swap from a 2wd ba10 to convert my 89 mj to 4wd . Of course now I found a nv3550 and tcase with 89 k miles on it for $500 out of an 02 Tj . What are the advantages / disadvantages of each trans ? I know that on both the tcase will have to be clocked to fit the mj . I've done some reading but can't seem to find much info putting the nv3550 in a mj . Thanks in advance .

Anyone have problems with Kelley's WIP getting shipped?

He makes upgraded battery cables . -
A serpentine 258 crank will have the same snout , a v belt 258 will need a spacer for the harmonic balancer . As far as the pilot hole I believe them to be the same , I went with an auto trans and the torque converter fit with no issues . I have a extra 4.0 crank and another new stroker out in the garage I can measure with a caliper when I get home.

Ok well I found a complete ax15 external slave +231 tcase , Dana 30 , front and rear DS and a Dana 44 out of an Comanche all for $300 .Going to pick it up tomorrow . It came out of a Comanche with a rotted frame . I don't think I'm missing anything . I figure the ax15 was changed at one point being it's external slave .
